Haven't tried something like this before, until I was introduced The Sichuan Kitchen by my girlfriend, and let me tell you, the food is just amazing. The spicy beef brisket noodle is a spice lovers dream... It was so spicy that is exciting to eat, gets you on your toes. Will be back!!!

Fantastic! We can’t wait to go back for another meal! I had the vegetarian “three in one,” which was a really nice and affordable way to try three dishes at once. The dumplings were absolutely delicious, the soup broth was flavorful and aromatic, and the dan dan noodles were perfectly spicy. I highly recommend doing either the “three in one” or “four in one” option so you can easily try a variety of flavors. My husband had the kong bao chicken, which he really enjoyed as well. Great value too, with really reasonable prices for a satisfying portion of food. Can’t believe we’ve lived in Christchurch for two years without trying this place, and it’s definitely going into our regular restaurant rotation now.

This is really a gem super super delicious I would say one of my best meals I ever had in my life. It was so delicious I’m still dreaming of it, definitely I will visit again. The noodles are awesome and the spices are super balanced. It’s also enough space available to visit with a bigger group. Staff is super friendly. Highly recommended place!!!

A wonderfully authentic Sichuan restaurant in Christchurch! Travelling here from Chengdu, and it is great to have have some spicy and delicious Sichuan food. The restaurant is cosy and comfortable, and the hospitality is wonderful. The owners, Jennifer and Jeremy, are super friendly and happy to talk you through the menu in great detail. Their knowledge of Sichuan cuisine is extensive, they really know what they’re doing here!

So good! We had the Combo 2 (4 dishes) and Wontons in Spicy Soup. Everything was delicious and our mouthes were suitably numbing. If you want real Sichuan, check this place out

Little hidden gem. Great location in the central city opposite from the little high. Ample parking across the street and some off street parking available. Wheelchair and pram access, disabled toilet, and 1 high chair available. Nice and friendly staff with can do attitude talk us through the menu. They offer sample platter for their noodles so you get to try 3 or 4 different noodles and dumplings in one go! Very affordable price, relatively small portion, mostly open for lunch and closes at 4pm apart from Friday opens till 8pm. Some of the dishes such as chicken noodle in the menu are not available yet.

Totally enjoyed our visit to Sichuan Kitchen, it's a hidden gem. Spacious and clean. Very helpful service, looks to be run by a family. The food is excellent, the menu has many options not seen everywhere, the taste was to die for. If your not sure what to get try one of the chefs specials gives you a slightly smaller version of 3 or 4 things. Prices are very reasonable allowing you to try many dishes. BYO wine $5, beers are $8'ish. We had BYO wine, bought 3 beers and had 7 dishes which cost around $70 and was heaps of food with some left to take home.

Absolutely amazing food and we can't wait to go back! We went to Chengdu, Sichuan province in China a couple of years ago and has been missing the food ever since. I was so excited when I found The Sichuan Kitchen when searching for 'dan dan noodles in chch'. We went on a Saturday night and there were quite a few other tables of people, really nice atmosphere. We got the A1 Sichuan boiled dumplings with chilli sauce, B1 dan dan noodles, R2 mapo tofu, H1 spicy sliced chicken, S1 pita pocket with dry beef. We chose original level of spice, which was hot for some of the dishes, but still super tasty. Each of the dishes had its own delicious, unique but truly Sichuan flavour and we struggled to pick favourites. Each one reminded us of what we ate in China and I couldn't help but smile as I tried each new dish and was instantly transported back to Sichuan. If I had to pick a favourite, maybe the spicy sliced chicken or the dumplings. Although I will definitely get the beef pita picket and the dan dan again. The lady who served us (and I think runs it with her husband) said that they have to air freight the spices in from Sichuan. Their dedication to real Sichuan flavours shows in the food. Thank you so much for making this food available to us in Christchurch. We are very lucky. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu!
