Best indian food in Christchurch or possibly in New Zealand. Recommended 100 percent. I drive 30 mins from my home to get my takeaway from here.
Very homely Indian food, and quick to serve. In Christchurch, I would recommend Green leaf as the best Indian restaurant in town. More marketing needed though for better visibility.
As I eat curry quite often, I feel I've come to understand what makes a good one. A lot of Indian places these days seemingly dumb down traditional dishes in order to appeal to a wider range of consumers, which while they're still good don't get anywhere near the authentic, smaller Indian places like Green Leaf.
I've been a couple of times now and both times have been amazed at the depth of flavour and spices that these guys use.. they clearly care about what they're doing rather than pumping out bland, overly creamy/sweet dishes as the bigger stores do. Good sized, quality meat portions, very comparable pricing (each takeaway dish is easily two meals) and the Naan breads are huge. Well spiced as well, I found their "medium" has a pleasant warmth and have a sneaking suspicion that their "hot" would absolutely meet expectations if that was what you're after!
So to that end, absolutely recommended.
OK, so the last Tuesday night I was so depressed and poor as I have no money coming into my bank account. My lovely mum offered me her debit card to use and she said to me go get yourself something to eat. I could of withdrawn all her money out but I didn't. It was around 9pm a Tuesday night when nearly all the takeaway outlets were closing in Bryndwr. I didn't want to go to the mass-produced food outlets that are open late such as McDonalds, Pizza Hutt and KFC etc. But I went to this beautiful Indian restaurant that was open till late. It is probably one of the few restaurants around the Bryndwr/Burnside area that is open late including the Pizza Hutt nearby. I totally recommend this place for people who are around the Bryndwr/Burnside area who are looking for late takeaways, as well as people who are wanting something else rather than mass-produced takeaways like Maccas or KFC. The thing that I love about coming to this restaurant is that it is lovely seeing a family working together. I find it quite cute to be honest! From the restaurant I ordered a Mixed Vegetable Curry with rice, a Naan bread and a couple of Samosas. The meal was delicious except for the Samosas. The Samosas were OK but they weren't the best ones I've tried. The best ones I've tried were from Cafe 101 and Indian Fendalton. Otherwise I am happy to come back to this restaurant again!
My absolute favourite Indian food in the city. I've been going there since it opened about 4 years ago and the food is always excellent. They have a really diverse range of vegetarian curries, which is always nice to see. It's a small family owned business, so the service is always friendly. I must only go there a handful of times a year since moving to the other side of town, but they still always remember my order :)
Had takeaway, real friendly, great service, great food
Great website, ordered via phone for takeaway, good service. Had butter chicken, quite authentic taste and naan authentic texture. Very satisfied. Not for dining from what i saw, but a couple tables are supplied so is a possibility. Very good.
I would give this 4.6/5
I love the cheese garlic naan bread!
Curry and chicken tandori is pretty good too :) Good sized serving.
This food was superb would go again but don’t live here
Best Indian takeaway in town. All the curries are delicious and different - some places seem to just have the same gravy for multiple flavoured curries. Really authentic flavours, and the extras are just as good. Love the lamb chops.
Our family has been enjoying takeaways from Green Leaf for years. Delicious food, friendly service & reasonable prices.
Tried this place for the first time yesterdsy based on reviews, and I'm so glad we did. Massive garlic naan, huge samosas, yummy butter chicken and chicken korma with a thick sauce and lots of meat in each, with ansolutely no slimey bits of skin like other places have. Mango lassi was delicious. We couldnt finish it all so we get to have the rest tonight :D We will definitely be back!
This is by lengths the most tasty Indian take-out option in Christchurch that I have come across (and I have tried a few.) The staff are friendly. Their extensive menu is available online and ordering over the phone is always efficient. When you pick up your order, you are greeted by the aroma of fresh spices. While being essentially a basic take-away shop, there is nevertheless the feel of a family-run business with staff who really care to the place. The menu has a large range of options, and the food is consistently delicious. Highly recommended!
Great place, decent food, fast service, always had a good meal each time we have been there, definitely recommend these guys
Best Indian food in town.
You can't eat in though (technically you can but they don't serve the food in plates).
My fav! Absolutely amazing Indian Takeaways at very reasonable prices. Heaps of vegetarian options. Our work place has regular 'curry days' for lunch. Most days someone will make the comment - great day for a curry! Highly recommended
One of the best takeaway Curries I've had in NZ for reasonable price.
