Food was amazing, we had dinner and then the buffet the next morning. My meat was melt in your mouth and the flavour was fantastic. If you are going to Christchurch I’d recommend staying at the crown plaza and dining here at the restaurant
Wow! Simply wow for quality and service!
I stayed here (Crowne Plaza), thus I had my breakfast at Market Place.
Good buffet spread with a juice bar and table service for cooked items (eggs/pancakes). Nice touch to having mini bottles of spreads.
Quality is impeccable. Kudos to the chefs and whole crew.
We had breakfast here every morning whilst staying at the CrownPlaza. Very clean and spacious. Delicious buffet breakfast with a huge selection. The restaurant Staff however were not very friendly Compare to the hotel staff. This was a let down for us, we were here every morning for 4 days and none of them ever came up to us and asked if we needed anything or approach us. Not very welcoming staff at the restaurant. The only time they spoke to us was when we had to give our room number for our breakfast.
Really great service. My mother and I really enjoyed the experience.
Vegan options are really nice.
Great views over Victoria Park if you can get one of the good seats. The venue is on the first floor, accessible via stairs and the lifts.
Food was amazing and presented perfectly and the Indian boy that served me was amazing, excellent services and amazing recognition on wine. Definitely will be coming back and recommending the restaurant
I joined a group for high tea on August 2nd. There were a few other tables but it wasn't too busy. Most of the dairy free high tea options were nice enough, particularly the sandwiches and the chia coconut pudding. Unfortunately they had run out of the tea I wanted, but the server helpfully suggested another option which I quite enjoyed. The service was good and friendly enough. Water was brought around just as my glass was getting low.
The main downside was the in-house GF DF scone. It was very hard, I only just managed to cut it open. It came with margarine and a nice raspberry jam. I put too much marg on initially because I didn't realize that's what it was. I almost didn't eat the scone at all because it was so tough, but it tasted nice enough with the jam. Another guest came over to ask how I'd got on with my scone as she'd had the same and found it too hard to cut through. My recommendation for the kitchen would be to replace the scone with pikelets as they are easier to make dairy free while maintaining texture.
Group of four had the chefs choice option. Lots of variety and a decent discount with Entertainment Book offer.
Really enjoyed Market Place. The food was excellent, service was friendly and views of Victoria Square added to our experience. Highly recommend the Moroccan Tofu main, One of the better restuarants in Christchurch. We will return soon.
Food: 9/10
Soy glazed salmon with shredded Kumara and pickled cabbage was excellent. Great combination of western and Asian style. I think kumara was a bit salty but overall presentation was excellent and food was delicious.
Service: 7/10
We were served by three different FOH members. Generally they were good but seemed inexperienced and less friendly. I hope service could be improved in the future.
Atmosphere: 10/10
Very clean and spacious. Nice view of the city. The restaurant wasn’t busy so we had pleasurable dining.
Brilliant. Four of us each had the Chefs choice. It was a pricey evening wen you add in wine and a cocktail but as a special occasion it was brilliant. Food was beautifully served and and the tastes of all the dishes brilliant... Beautifully seasoned. The wait staff were lovely and easy to converse with and knowledgeable about our food most of which is sourced from within 50kms of chch. Lovely lovely evening.
Delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere — nice if you’re looking to avoid the huge crowd on New Regent St. Even though it’s in the Crowne Plaza, it’s definitely not a “hotel restaurant”. I had the salmon entree and my husband had the steak with red wine sauce (which he wants to bring a bottle home with him) and the pumpkin side. I wish we had this chef/restaurant back home with us. We would order all the same again if we had to. The staff is very friendly and helpful too.
They have a special wine of the month that they give proceeds toward a charity. This was a nice touch that we appreciated as well!
A friend gave me a gift of High Tea for two at The Crowne Plaza for a Christmas present, and today I took my Mother with me to enjoy it. It is in the Market Place restaurant on the first floor, where you enjoy a gorgeous view out of the huge windows, seated in comfortable chairs with plenty of room between tables, waited on by immaculate staff. Our host Sunny was absolutely fabulous and made us feel so special with his attention to detail, he anticipated our every need and made our visit so pleasant. The china was gorgeous and more importantly beautiful to use . The assortment of sandwiches, cakes, fancies and scones were lovely, flavourful and wonderfully presented. We wiled away a couple of hours chatting, enjoying the lovely food and views and time with each other, it was really relaxing and I highly recommend it as a regular or special treat for the special people in your life.
I had the smoked venison ribs, very nice. Decent service too. The menu is fairly simple but it looks like they're trying to do a small number of things well, rather than over-reaching with loads of silly embellishments. Good drinks selection and Panhead APA on tap!
