I liked this resto. We had plenty of food and a drink each for 50NZD each which I thought was good value. We definitely over ordered and could have done with one less dish each. We had the money bread (basically a pizza), mushroom Quesedilla, fried potatoes, falafel taco. My favourite was the mushroom Quesedilla. Whilst there was enough vegetarian options I wish there were more vegetarian tacos. I can't understand why you cannot have more variety. I understand being vegetarian may be a minority in new zealand but no harm in having more options. Our host was very friendly and assisted us on our options. We sat outside and were lucky to experience live music from next door. I would come back if in the area but I think mexican options in England are better for vegetarians.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch on a mild day outside and enjoyed it a lot. Great selection of dishes and most can be shared. The fish taco is a favourite. I also love drinking the palomas… delicious!

Friendly staff. Portions are big - we asked if it would be too much food and were told it was just fine but ended up with leftovers. Everything tasted nice but you can feel quite heavy (thick dough and cheese entree, potatoes a bit greasy). Highly recommend the modern taco - they seaweed taco shell is super crunchy.

Great vibe, margs and food! The guy serving us was so lovely and fun. Really great range of cocktails and the food was outstanding. Some interesting things on the menu and wide range. Would return next time I visited Christchurch.

I really enjoyed my dinner at Chiwahwah Mexican Cantina. I was lucky to get a table without a booking, even for just a party of one. So I recommend making a booking if you plan on dining here. I ordered the roasted cauliflower that came with a romesco sauce, a fish taco, and one of their sangrias. Everything was delicious! I love roasted cauliflower and theirs definitely ticks all the boxes. It was perfectly charred on the outside and soft on the inside. The romesco sauce was bright flavors from the acidity of the tomato, which paired well with the smokiness of the cauliflower. The fish taco was good too! It wasn’t greasy despite it being fried. It came with capers, which I don’t actually like, but in this taco it was yummy and needed with the fish. The sangria was comprised of rosé, mint, and strawberries. It was light and fruity. Service was excellent! The staff made sure I was doing fine throughout my meal. The atmosphere is vibrant and loud. Chiwahwah’s seems to be more of a fusion restaurant, but I don’t think they advertised themselves as a traditional Mexican restaurant anyway. If you want good food with Mexican-inspired flavors, definitely check them out.

A good 3rd experience. This was our 3rd visit to Chiwahwah. It was as enjoyable as the previous 2 visits. On all three occasions, the place was full and buzzing. We were served by Emily whose service was friendly and cheerful. We shared a few vegetarian dishes between 4 of us. I will happily go back here another time!

Great location, great atmosphere. Went to Chiwahwahs for lunch, managed to get a table outside, great view to the lovely Avon River and surrounding area. The menu has so many choices. The food we chose was delicious. Will have to go back again to try more. Also have a awesone choice of beverages. The service was excellent. It was busy at the restaurant but the staff walked around checking in and refilling our glasses of water(was needed as it was a warm sunny day) Had heard great things about this place and it certainly matched them all. Will definitely be back and would have no hesitation to recommend.

I always get the beast board without thinking. Totally worth it! Great quality meat. I always love the atmosphere in this place. It’s fast, busy and always great for people watching. For an easy dish I recommend the nachos. It’s huge. Staff are usually friendly and take on feedback very well.

The food was pretty great and after seeing what others in our party ordered, we have to come back and try more! The service was topnotch! It was a bit loud inside, but it was a Friday night and the place was packed. Can't really complain. Note: make a reservation! We did and it made it so easy!
