A 2am favorite. The food is great, a real experience. It's always the first on my list of places to go when hungry at night. Can't recommend it more.

This is the closest to authentic Chinese i have found. i have been seeking an authentic Chinese meal in Christchurch, not the pseudo Chinese places designed to please the Western palate like the Stix in Ric where all you hear in the kitchen is a micro wave oven heating 2 minute noodles and instant rice! At Golden Boat we were pleasantly surprised by the simple yet delicious plates. Our group ranging in ages 40's -80's, especially enjoyed the duck and the squid on the pre-arrranged voucher deal menu. If you like the Stix in Ric you won't like the decour nor the very friendly but heavlily accented proprietors, and possibly won't get by your Western palate to really enjoy what's on your plate...I felt i was experiencing another world. And they also do gluten free items.

I came here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend using a deal voucher. The peking duck combo is excellent. We tried deep fried squidpeking duck with pancake roast duck chow mein and deep fried ice cream. All were excellent and better than I have expected.

It is the best Chinese food I have ever had in Christchurch. The decor is old-fashioned but the staff are very nice and funny. Though they do not speak English wellthey are so friendly and willing to help. The table next to us was having hotpot which smells so goodI would definitely visit again and try some of the traditional Chinese dishes that the staff recommended to us.

A group of four of us ate here early in the week. I would gladly go back again, and will recommend to my friends.

The decor:
As others have mentioned, the decor is very old and tired. The chairs and tables were old but clean, the restaurant itself was clean and tidy. Table menus were in English; I would have liked to be able to read the menus on the walls (all in Chinese). The outside of the restaurant is likewise a little drab.

The food:
Food was delicious, and good quantities - we couldn't finish everything and took some home. Seafood was wonderful, beef in black been likewise, corn & chicken soup very nice, obligatory deep-fried icecream very yummy. I'd give the food 5 stars.

Service: The restaurant was very quiet (as in, not busy). Staff were attentive without being pushy; food arrived quickly - not always a good thing, we felt just slightly rushed and would have preferred more of a break between courses.

The restaurant is a BYO which was nice; wine glasses appeared quickly, however a request for a beer glass was met with a brief moment of confusion, before a standard 'water glass' was presented.

Price was good considering the quality, and quantity. Decor and slightly too-quick service were the only real minuses.

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant that i have ever been to. The food is 5 star the staff are super friendly. If i hadn't moved to Europe i would still be going there on a weekly basis. They always greeted me when i came there to buy my late dinner after a night shift. I highly recommend this place!

While this restaurant doesn't look like much, don't let the tired exterior and faded furnishings put you off.

The food was deliciously fresh and expertly cooked. The spicy prawns were a real delight. Large jumbo prawns quickly fried with garlic, chili and ginger - fantastic. The spicy pork was another hit - fresh and tasty - not the msg-laden gloup that I've been served in other restaurants. Beware - spicy means hot, hot, hot - be careful!

This is a real family run restaurant serving great value Hong-Kong style Chinese food. If you don't focus too much on the surroundings and enjoy deliciously simple home-cooked food, you won't be disappointed. We'll be back for more!

I have eaten here a number of times with a few different people. It's nothing flash to look at - in fact you can hardly notice it, everything is outdated. I've only ever seen Chinese people eating there (which is a great sign of the quality). The food is excellent, amazing value for money, if you like quality food and don't care about the 'atmosphere' then this is well worth a try.

"Don't judge a book by its cover!" This restaurant might make you dissapointed when you walk in but trust me you will LOVE the foods đŸ‘â€. Despite having a not attractive decor, this restaurant has quite a few positive spots. First thing, the food will never dissapoint you. I have become a regular customer now and I find it delicious every time. Allow yourself to have a good look at the unique style menu since sometimes it's hard to find the right food to order, so guys take a deep breath and keep looking. This restaurant is open till 3 AM! That's definitely a great thing for me. I have been served food very fast. The lady is good and friendly. The portion of the food is quite generous and it's value for money. So just go now, get something to eat and let me know your experience! Cheers 😉

It’s a Hidden Gem! Best Cantonese food in Christchurch I’ve EVER find! No fancy environment but absolutely amazing food! Must try if you like Cantonese/ Hong Kong style food. A very wide variety of options as well so you’ll always find something new to try.

It doesn't have fancy decor. It even looks a bit shabby from outside. But the food is DELICIOUS. Friendly staff. A real gem!

The only real drawcard to this restaurant is their late opening hours. They close at 3am every night. It is far from the cleanest and the food is not particularly high quality. The staff are friendly but there English is poor. The chef is generally found sitting in the dining area eating and watching a Hong Kong TV channel. The dinning area is also somewhat cluttered and the seats are not particularly comfortable. Prices are reasonable.

Great to have a place close by that's open until 3am. Food is surprisingly good for the environment which leads to my one star off. The place has an odd smell and just does not look very appealing at all. Still good food though

I used to come here all the time with my friends; they just lived down the road, and it was open until the smallest of hours in the morning. I went with some friends after I hadn't been there for about 4 years, after living overseas for a while. It was good to see that some things never change. It's hard to tell whether the service is friendly or not, which sounds impossible but it's true. The food is, in my opinion, really good but they do have an array of different menus, each with far too many options, not all of which are in English. In my opinion, it is absolutely a place to come and visit, it's pretty much a Sockburn institution

Absolutely delicious go there to try true Chinese cuisine i recommend sitting in there and trying something that isn't a generic Chinese dish the ostrich used to be my favorite now I like the half roast duck. Focus on the food not the service. I typically point at what I want to cross the language barrier. I've never had any issues with the last 5 years of return visits

Awesome experience in this restaurant! Knowing that the chef is from a famous restaurant in Hong Kong, the food is extremely traditional. If you haven’t been to Hong Kong, no need to go, you can try all in this restaurant. Environment is clean and tidy, food is excellent, plus a long opening hour till 3am, you do not want to miss that.

One of if not the only places in Christchurch that serves authentic claypot rice. A lot of reviews seem to complain about a strange smell in the restaurant. I am pretty sure it's the fish tank inside the kitchen, meaning it's fresh seafood. And you don't really notice it after a while. Good roast duck. Decor is quite old. Definitely a hole in the wall experience. Come here for the authentic Cantonese/Hong Kongnese food.

Don't be discouraged by their interiors, this ex-HK street food chef makes a mean sizzling pepper beef, spicy chicken and garlic broccoli. We come here to dine every 2 weeks almost, our parents know them well and we often even have a wine together.
