Have been 3 times in the past 6 months and I’ve had outstanding meals every time. Kudos to the chefs, you’re acing it! Personal favourites currently on the menu are the fish tacos, lamb tagine and the gnocchi.
The service is not on par with the quality of the food though - the staff are very young, not confident at all, and they don’t know the menu very well. Some of them are making a big effort, so good on them! Unfortunately a couple of the others just don’t seem to care.
That’s not a reason not to eat here though, I’ll still be visiting regularly and would definitely encourage others to do so too.
Only just read the reviews after we went there for dinner tonight so am surprised at some of them as we all 5 of us had wonderful meals. Servings were quite large & ingredients tasted fresh. My steak was cooked to perfection and I am very fussy! My wife was very happy to find a good vegetarian option too. Meals were quite slow to come out but worth the wait and staff are polite. Good for kids as well!
Sat outside in the sun, the service was excellent, quick and attentive, lots of organised staff, the breakfast salad was outstanding, very pleasant experience with excellent and different food.
Wonderful food, and the staff were very polite and attentive. The desserts are a masterpiece! The Cafe was full, but the quality did not compromise. Will be a favourite for us!
Cute little cafe in Clevedon.
Coffee is really yummy and food is pretty good too. Ordered the eggs bene and smoked salmon dish. The eggs bene sauce was a little too buttery but other than that was good.
Ordered smoothie bowl and poached eggs. Haven't had such good poached eggs in a long time. I am definitely revisiting when I am around the next time. Thank you.
After a nice drive in the country we stumbled across The Corner kitchen and bar. At first when we entered I was initially put off by the loud cackle of a group of women at the bar however after finding a table in the restaurant, the noise wasnt as bad.
Service was very fast and friendly. Menu is simple but with a great and varied selection. We settled on the bread to start. Served with slow roasted tomato and garlic and the most amazing feta I have tasted in my life! I ordered a small lamb. Portion was huge so amazing value. The lamb was so tender and really complimented all the different tastes like the cauliflower puree, the olives which added a hint of acidity to balance the harissa rub and roasted tomato. The whole meal was delicious. My partner had the mussel and prawn pasta dish. The ambience was great! Mixture of diners from young to old. Overall I loved the menu and the friendliness of the staff. If I'm ever in clevedon again I will be back!
This place is at the top of our list any time we feel like dining out. No need to book a table, they always manage to squeeze us in. The food and service is always amazing, and it has a family friendly atmosphere. Love this little place x
We weren't sure if we should take the gamble or not and were glad we did. The wait time was average and the service was very good. The food was excellent and they catered to my sister's fussy requirements which was excellent. Definitely worth a visit.
Sunday brunch with the Family, we’ve frequented this place for years. Great place to eat, food was awesome as was the coffee. Definitely recommend you get out and visit The Corner in Clevedon.👍🏽
went to the Corner for lunch today, had the chicken salad, absolutely devine, great service and good coffee wiil definitely be back, can't wait to try some other dishes 😀
Great place for a quiet Sunday brunch. We ordered eggs benedict with smoked salmon and the corner grill. The pork and fennel sausage from the corner grill was a highlight of the dish. Staff was friendly and the place was spacious.
When you go out for a meal, two things can change it from just a dinner outside, to an evening well spent. Great food, great company. No Einstein guesses there. But even with great food, great company includes wait staff that make you feel comfortable and not like an inconvenient prick if you have additional requests. On the other hand, it’s a real test of character for diners when they’re presented with inattentive wait staff or a heavy waiting time. For some reason, our self-righteous stingy side always seeps out when the hangry-ness sets in.
Very nice place (probably the best option) to eat and drink in Clevedon.
Nice and cozy environment and good food. I tried the rye Reuben melt, which was delicious, especially the pastrami.
My overall experience was very good, although I sometimes I felt unattended and menu is overpriced.
Great service! First time here tonight! Love the menu and that its nice and casual dining! Me and my partner enjoyed our meals! I'm from Texas so when I saw Texas brisket and Texan bean nachos that was it! We are going! My partner had the best ribs he has had here! For a while I felt I was back home in Texas! Will come back again! I would give it a 10
We visited here on mother's day morning for brunch and coffee. We had delicious food and coffee and were happy with the service and atmosphere.
Wanted to try out the new menu so arrived for an early dinner with 3 other guests and enjoyed pre-dinner drinks out on the new deck. Impressive wine list and some interesting beers to choose from. Lovely setting on the deck with the last of the days sun streaming in and surrounded by the foliage.
Service was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly.
Moved inside to a booth for dinner. New layout inside is cozy and provides for intimate seating.
Oysters with Kahawai pate was superb. Dumplings to die for. We shared these two entrees amongst the 3 of us.
I chose the ribs for my main and this was also superb.
Can't remember the name of the accompanying red wine (which was recommended) but it was just right.
Service continued to be excellent and my companion's mains were also raved about (Salmon and Beetroot, and the Pork).
We'll be back, for sure. Highly recommended.
Had been wanting to try the newly renovated Corner cafe & took the opportunity to have breakfast with friends here before heading to the markets.
The reno has been done well & really suits the site. We sat outside in the undercover area & although it's on a busy corner the garden shelters you from the noise.
Service was a bit slow to start with but the lady apologised & said that she was by herself. It soon got better as more staff arrived although the details such as water on the table were missing. We also received our coffees well before they took our food order & were not asked if we wanted more drinks with our meals (our coffees were long gone before the food arrived) Finer details but they do make the difference.
Coffees were nice - not bitter, but quite light on taste. I wonder if they only serve one shot which is a little unusual these days.
3 of us ordered the big breakfast & one bacon & eggs. All elements were cooked well although the bacon could have been more caramelised. The sausages are pork & fennel & were delicious!! Eggs cooked perfectly too. A great dish - will ask for crispier bacon next time.
A neighbouring table ordered the French toast which smelled & looked amazing & was soon devoured.
Great to see some well thought out vegan & vegetarian options as these are sometimes just an afterthought or not considered at all.
My friends said that the lunch menu is also good & the lamb burger is a fave. Drinks wise they have a good selection of Halertau & the Garage Angry Peaches cider is a must try!
Took.a group of work colleagues here for a Christmas thank you lunch. Luckily I had booked as it was almost completely full - always a good sign! The service was prompt and friendly despite how busy they were. There was a great selection on the menu with several dishes appealing. Despite that four of the five went with the pork belly Coleslaw with the fifth going for the BLT. The meals were universally agreed to be delicious. There was an excellent wine selection as well as some craft beers on tap. We enjoyed the surroundings for a couple of hours and everyone left agreeing that they would be back with friends and family over the summer.
Looking for something off the beaten track for a lazy weekend lunch, we decided to head out into the countryside and fine at the Clevedon Cafe. Situated on the corner of a relatively bustling roundabout, clever landscaping screens most of the traffic out while still allowing natural light to stream in. Our drink orders were taken promptly, something I’m always grateful for when out for brunch. The restaurant has a really broad wine list but beer and cider availability is not as extensive. This isn’t necessarily an negative, just depends on what you are looking for. Due to the chilly day, sickness (him) and a full-on week (me), coffee was the order of the day and both arrived relatively quickly and were completely satisfactory, albeit nothing to write home about.
My husband was looking for something to clear his sinuses so went for the spicy breakfast quesadilla, topped with grilled haloumi and a fried egg. It was a difficult choice for me between the cafe smoked salmon and potato salad or the indian spiced lamb wrap but the wrap won out in the end. I was also giving the berry and chocolate brioche fingers the glad eye and would have definitely have picked this if I’d been in the mood for something sweet.
My husband found the quesadilla quite good – he thought the mince was delicious, with a bit of a tang but not quite as much kick as he had hoped. He found the egg was fried quite well and felt the haloumi was a really nice touch. The serving of lamb in my wrap was quite generous and the whole thing was fairly substantial – I actually did not quite finish! The inclusion of chickpeas definitely help with that satiety factor and the cucumber raita really added to the dish.
Service was attentive and quick without being “in your face”. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy but one would hope that they would manage to maintain that level of service even during peak periods. The price was right too, with two meals and two coffees providing a little change out of $50. While we went without our son, there were a couple of families also dining in at that time and the layout is relatively family-friendly, with a ramp entrance suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. The Clevedon Cafe gets a thumbs up from us.
Very good food and good service. Fresh fish cooked beautifully. Quite busy but staff were efficient.
Just had a lovely Spiced Indian lamb wrap with salad and chickpeas and lovely dressing. Perfect for a light lunch and served quickly with friendly service. Two very happy diners.
Went for our anniversary lunch today -Had the best All-day breakfast I've ever had-(beautifully presented, fresh mushrooms & poached eggs were perfectly cooked)-My wife's salmon -Egg benedict was also beautiful (took a photo to show friends). Hostess was friendly & provided a bountiful glass of wine to wash it down with. So full I won't be having any dinner tonight.
24/01/2016 - We visited again just over two years later. The place has had a bit of a makeover, there is better indoor and outdoor flow now. We were seated inside as outside was full, not an issue as we got a table in a nice quiet corner. Fantastic range on the menu, definitely something for everyone. Our order was taken straight away and we ordered the burger and the chicken salad. The food arrive on the table within 10-15 minutes. The lamb burger looked like it could have done with a few more fries but the chicken salad was enormous and delicious, should have asked for it the rest as takeaway! Another great lunch experience at a lovely place.
21/01/2014 - My partner and I stopped there for lunch late last year. We wouldn't normally spend $20 each on food at that time of day but I am glad we did. It has a fresh, modern menu with many delicious options and the portion sizes were good value. Our order was taken quickly but the food took awhile to arrive however, the cafe was almost full at the time. Would happily return and recommend to others.
It has been many years since we dined at the Clevedon Café having had 3 nasty experiences in a row, when the food and service was at best, awful and at worst appalling. So it was with some reluctance that we agreed to join friends for dinner there last night and boy are we glad we did. What a turnaround. The food was excellent, not one of the 6 of us had anything but praise for the various dishes we chose, and the waitress, whilst obviously new, did a very good job. The prices were affordable and the helpings more than adequate. So I have had a complete change of heart and will be dining again at the Clevedon Café soon.
The Clevedon Cafe is superb. The atmosphere, the staff and most of all...the food. Small place in a small town, but some of the best food I have ever had. Our kids (10 and 7) agree. Worth the relaxing drive from Auckland any weekend!Lovely little place...will continue to go back as long as it's around!
Had a lovely breakfast. We ordered the fish wjth poached egg and the breakfast bowl which included a poached egg, avocado, crumbed chorizo, polenta cubes. Very filling but healthy and light.
The Corner is the Local for me! Always find great service and great food. Sometimes Skeptical of a loaded fries but this one did not disappoint! Definitely recommend :)
Breakfast here is phenomenal. Very impressed with both meals we had. Diverse flavors, well presented, unique options. Seemed a tad pricey but more than worth it, very fresh with attention to detail, portion size is generous as well. Very pleased we stopped by, best breakfast I've had in a long time.
My friend and I went here for breakfast. We were greeted with a smile by a lovely young man, I think he was the manager. It was such a pleasant experience. I had the herbed mushroom breakfast and it was a 10/10! Great hospitality, food and service. Can’t wait to return. Thank you!
We waited for quite some time but the food were incredibly delicious. Very flavorful and quite big portions. We were so full at the end. Definitely going back to try out the other dishes! :)
Feb 2021 update: Menu has changed since the last time I was there but food was still incredible!!
I always have fantastic experiences here. Menu changes regularly and is always of a high standard. Staff are lovely and professional. One of my favourite places to dine.
We came in for a late lunch today,
The FOH guy was friendly and welcoming. Our waitress also lovely.
I had the French toast and couldn't fault it.
Husband had the hash cakes. His only fault was he wanted more. 😊
My friend and I found with recommendation via Google. The locale has a comfortable atmosphere, though a touch loud. The food was quite tasty and flexible as I’m Vegetarian. I had their Breakfast Burrito substituting mushrooms for the chorizo; and she got the Tuna Tacos...yummy!
Food here is absolutely superb. Cut above your general cafe fare. Twists that take things to another level. The lemon curd and almond tart was amazing.
Cosy, friendly staff and wonderful service. Lovely place to hangout or stopover. Been here 4x, and they never fail to make me and my friends feel welcome. Generous food serving, good beer and wine selection, quality products used, reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Good food! The buffalo chicken lunch dish was quite stingy with the chicken, but the lamb one was generous, so a bit of a consistency issue here but overall good. If you want to go out and eat clean, the lunch menu has quite a few options 💪
Great food and great service, we each had different meals and they were all very tasty and filling. Nice environment with well sheltered outdoor tables and unobtrusive but large and clear tvs around.
We had the Hoisin Pulled Pork pancake with Asian slaw, tempura fish and a shared Apple Strudel Cheesecake to finish. Add in a couple of flat whites, the all up cost of $77 was very reasonable. Pulled pork was melt in the mouth, loved the Asian slaw. Fish and fries w slaw were tasty and both meals were good sized helpings. Apple Strudel Cheesecake was a standout!
Lovely venue with original local artwork on the walls.
Easy parking and nearby shops to stroll around afterwards.
Awesome venue and good food. Enjoyed my salmon dish. The takeaway menu was fantastic with they're gluten free sands vegan pizza
