We dined at Windross House recently and found the food and service to be of a high standard. We ordered the Mango chicken and Risotto. Both were reasonable portions and delicious. The prices were on the high side but I feel this is a place you would go to for a special occasion as the setting is lovely.
I discovered Windross through family about two years ago, and have been dining there regularly (at least once every two months) since. The service is fantastic - staff are always very friendly, take good care of us (and don’t check in too often as to not disturb) and make the effort to remember us. The food is always top notch and very well presented. The food is incredibly consistent and the portion sizes are just right. The location offers a stunning view, and the restaurant inside is laid out pretty well. Tables are not too close together and are always set beautifully. Keep up the fantastic work, I look forward to my next visit!
New Year's eve set menu. Entree seafood chowder and avocado prawn. Both tasted good even though the avocado prawn was colourful. 2 eye fillet steaks were cooked perfectly. My own comment would have been a little bit of carrot would have added a bit of colour. Dessert of the cassata was pronounced excellent and the tiramisu was lovely too. Service wonderful. I thought the portion size looked small but in realty, I couldn't have eaten another thing after finishing the menu.
It is more of a 3.5 for me, especially for the portion sizes (regular/small) compared to prices (high) though as we had a nice family dinner here, hence giving it 4 stars,
We had mozzarella Caprese (pesto was ok) garlic focaccia and Milan style risotto (tried this in Milan many times and here is good) our mains were veal, chicken pasta and Venison, some tiramisu and affogato, all well cooked and seasoned, the venue is pretty nice as well as the view, the staff are kind and friendly, if anything I will increase the portion sizes for entree and mains a bit :) considering the prices
Excellent location by the sea,service is good and best of all the food is flavoursome and tasty.Lamb cutlets were amazingly cooked and the tiramisu is just yum...

I could hardly believe how beautiful this place was at night! With the vintage looking villa and fairy lights strung along the edges of the ceiling, it was straight out of a fairytale.
The inside was equally romantic with warm lights, vines, and elegant wooden furniture. The staffs were also the loveliest and friendliest human beings.
Everything on the menu sounded so appetizing that making a decision was difficult! Strongly recommend starting with a garlic bread for the table. The serving size was massive, and I really liked the texture of the bread they used, although it could do with a bit more garlic butter!
The seafood chowder received a lot of compliments. My sister also said the sauce of the lasagna was really well made. I had the prawn pasta, and I could not be happier with it. It had a generous amount of prawns, with the perfect amount of chilli and olive oil tossed through it!
The only person who was slightly disappointed in his meal was my husband - he had the pork belly, and paired with the kumara mash, it was just too sweet and rich for him with nothing to cut through it.
Nevertheless, we all fell in love with the ambience of Windross, and look forward to coming back during the day time for lunch, and enjoy the sea view ;)

The staff are so lovely and so accommodating. They where SO kind to us all, trying to accommodate all of us where possible. My 6 year old nephew was accommodated all night beyond belief. They feed him well and even took him on a little tour to show him things while we enjoyed our delicious meal. Our table of 6 all had different meals and everyone was very very happy with their meal! Great place for a meal with family or even a date. The view is exceptional and you’re guaranteed to have incredible service.
My wife & I had a dinner at Windross on a warm weekday and we were welcomed by the lovely seaview on Shelly Beach Parade outside the restaurant. It made us forget about the roughness of the wind.
The wait staff was friendly & cheerful. My wife's House made lemonade, lime & bitters was great. Garlic prawns were fresh & lovely. Chicken livers were nicely matched with beautiful cream sauce. Masala veal & salmon fettuccine were just as good. Tiramisu looked amazing, but subjectively, I preferred to have it a bit sweeter. Anyway, it was a very enjoyable dinner.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday. The first thing you notice about this place is the extremely warm welcome by the owners. Especially Juiliana. We were so well looked after all of the staff are lovely. The location is gorgeous as it's right opposite the beach. The food is yummy, nothing fancy and could have had a bit more veges but really impressed with this place. The service will have us back.

I went here for dinner to celebrate Mother's Day. And what a great choice it was.
We were welcomed in for our group of 7 and we ordered a variety of dishes. The staff went above and beyond for us and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, as did everyone.
I ordered a beautiful eye fillet that was perfectly cooked medium rare accompanied by succulent vegetables. From portion size, taste, to presentation and time, this meal was cooked with love.
Definitely returning to this restaurant 👍🏽
We've been coming here for nearly 14 years and it has been consistently great. It's a great spot for celebrations and also just for catching up. I can highly recommend the cocktails as they are some of the best I've ever tried.

Got married here on August 12th 2006 the staff and the owners were great the meals were top quality they really looked after us all, there was sixty of us and it was quite well priced. So for our tenth wedding anniversary I thought I would get a group of people together and head back there a trip down memory lane just a small group this time of eight people once again the meals were served on time the size of the meals were just enough and our friend aren't little people don't tell them I said that, we all had entrees mains and quite a few drinks we had a sober driver so could. The meals were of top Quality, I think they really looked after us all once again the price for us all was $840.00 not bad and still the same owners. Thank you Billy and Juliana for another great evening

Great night at Windross House - fantastic location particularly on a nice night.
We had a party of 11 - service was very good. Great wine selection - meals delivered at good pace.
All were delicious - only feedback was that it would have been good to have more vegetables in the Chicken Risotto. There was just so much rice, almost too much without enough else.
Other meals selected - fish of the day, chicken fettuccine, spag bol, salmon risotto, steak, mango chicken, chicken Palma (portion could have been bigger). Garlic bread and vege side also good.
We did not try the desserts as our friend brought a cake - they charge 'cakeage' but were very helpful with lighting candles and cutting the cake etc...

Came here for dinner. Such a lovely location with a beautiful view! I had the chicken risotto and it was delicious! Good sized portion, well seasoned with tender pieces of chicken. Could have had done with more seasonal vegetables. The only major down point for me was the dessert. I had the tiramisu and though it tasted great, the portion was very small considering it was $14.50. Would definately come back for another meal.
Yet another great restaurant with fantastic service offering delicious meals. Love my chicken fettuccine (I have this at almost every Italian restaurant I go to) the pasta was cooked al dente love the creamy sauce, although this dish would be perfect if fresh homemade pasta was used. My partner's chicken mango was divine. Tender and juicy chicken breast with just the right amount of yummy sauce. Even the veggies on the side were cooked to perfection. Will go back for sure!!

First time at this place last night. Customer service was great, the waitress (think she was either a part owner or owners wife) was lovely & very friendly. The mussel & calamari entrées were delish, calamari was not chewy at all like many other places. I had the vegetarian spaghetti which was really tasty with quite a large portion size as well which is always good. The Tiramasu desert was to die for. Had a taste of my mums Affogato which was also really yum!! The restaurant itself was a little cold (might need heating on wintery nights) and seemed like it needed a little more décor (plants or old historical photographs for example) as it seemed like a slightly sterile space. Would definitely recommend. I'll be going back!!
Oh my, how did I not know this spectacular restaurant exsisted. Just had dinner here tonight with my husband and 2 friends. What an absolute delight and pleasure it was to dine here. 2 of us had Avocado Shrimps (Posh Prawn Cocktail) 1 had Seafood Chowder and my husband had Calamari, all superb no complaints from any of us. Just as we expected mains was spectacular also. 1 Chicken Mango, 1 Venison, 1 Chicken Fettucine & 1 Gnocchi all meals were enjoyed, too full for desserts. Would highly recommend and defin8ly need to book as was busy but not rowdy, lovely atmosphere not bombarded by music or crowds you can have a gr8 conversation and here yourself think, that is important in enjoying a great meal. Looking forward to going back again.
Had our wedding here. Absolutely perfect. Food was amazing, staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Anita who pretty much organised the whole place for us. Will definitely be visiting this place again!

Went here with my partner a few months ago. Really enjoyed our experience. We had dinner here and we both agreed that Windross was one the best restaurants we've been to in Auckland.

The restaurant has an awesome setting and was very pleasant.
We had 3 entrees and two mains. The soup of the day was delicious, the garlic bread was good but portions were a bit small. The best entree was the chilli prawns, they were awesome but again, small portions.
For the mains, we ordered the bistecca alexander and a veal dish, both were amazing and portions were good.
In total we spent $100 and were really happy with the experience. I would definitely recommend people try this gem of an restaurant.

The management attend to their guests, you never have to call a waiter over. The food is authentic and very tasty. For the sweet tooth the home made deserts will be irresistible.
We spent a lovely evening here on 15 January our Wedding Anniversary. We wanted to go somewhere special and Windross certainly was beautiful. The location is fantastic and the view from the deck where we sat was magnificent over the ocean. The owners were very friendly and chatted with us as they served our meals. We started with the chicken livers which we always select if they are on the menu and they were delicious. I selected the Mango chicken and my husband Veal Marsala and both were first class. We will definitely be back
My wife and I had a most pleasant meal here. Pleasant staff, great views and the meals were first class. Heck they didn't even mind that I rolled up wearing jandals after a day at the beach. Like Arnie "We will be back".
I came to this restaurant with my boyfriend. I loved the atmosphere and different setting. However, it would have been nice if there was music playing. I ordered the veal and it was so flavorsome! I loved the creamy sauce that went with it and the vegetables were fresh and tasty. The avocado in the dish added to the flavour and the veal was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend ordered the chicken risotto and he liked the sauce and was very happy with his meal. The tirimasu cake we had for desert was really yummy and creamy. We could not complain on the food and the service we got was excellent. The waitress was really sociable and helpful. Will definitely be back :)
Five of us went to Windross House Restaurant on Sunday night. The setting was very pretty. We were quickly seated, the host was warm yet professional. We were treated like honoured guests. We all had something different and no one was disappointed. All five of us enjoyed the meals. One of our group had been there previously and recommended it to us. I have recommended it to my work colleagues and will continue to tell people how good it is.
We had seen this place set back from the beach a few times but never ventured in. Tried again on Sunday and after working out this was open (yes you could make it more obvious) we went for it.
The decor is a bit utilitarian but smart and pleasant. Menu is quite authentic Italian (not your usual Auckland hybrid). We went for steak and the veal. Both excellent and could not be faulted. perfectly cooked and delicious sauces.
make the place a little more Italian (fun and romantic) and you would have my five stars every time

We dined here for mothers day. Table of 7. The staff are very friendly and service was excellent. The main meat on the dishes were very yummy! But all our dishes had the same PLAIN side, which was the let down. Consisting of Lettuce, Tomato, Carrot, Potatoes. Still a lovely night out.
We held our daughter's wedding at Windross. If you are considering holding a wedding there I am confident you will be more than happy with your choice.
The setting cannot be faulted - it is so Auckland with the beach and the trees as a backdrop.
We found the staff very obliging and professional in everything they did - in the background but there when you needed them and professionally turned out.
The cuisine was excellent and of sufficient quantity to cater for all appetites.
We all had a great day and would not hesitate to recommend it to all of our friends.
My husband and I recently celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary and chose to do so at Windross wishing to showcase our corner of East Auckland to our friends and relatives, most of whom have no idea why we have chosen to live in this area. Now they know! Windross's location was appreciated by all. We had a great time and the excellent food,wine and service contributed to a wonderful afternoon. The staff were obliging and went the extra mile to accommodate our daughter's wishes and directions from London as she could not be with us. All in all I would recommend this venue and in our case, the set lunch menu for any gathering such as ours.
We came across Windross House by accident, about four years ago, and have been back nearly every week since. The food is simply the best, the setting is romantic, and the owners know what good food and service mean. Go there. You deserve the best.

Lovely quaint place to eat for mother’s day lunch. Garlic prawns to start were delicious with a beautiful garlic sauce. the chef’s special of the day the pork belly was devine and a nice passionfruit cheesecake to end. would recommend visiting ☺️
It's a little bit out of the way to get to buy what a beautiful restaurant. Fantastic service, amazing food and drinks list. Loved our dinner here so much. We were the last table to leave but didn't feel like we were being rushed out the door at all. Will definitely be back and highly highly recommend!

Had dinner here last night with my partner (15/4/22). We received Great service and the resturaunt has lovely atmosphere. I enjoyed my eggplant parmesan and the Garlic bread was yum. This is the second time been and will be back again. Perfect date spot. ❤️

Lived in the area for several year - just discovered this little gem. Lovely food, reasonable prices (we had the venison which was delicious) as was the starter, generous portions, friendly service and historic but immaculate interior decor. It they painted the sign outside would match the quality of the restaurant - it just might give the wrong impression at the moment. :)
