Finally tried their famous Southernman pie and it didn't disappoint. We dined in around 1430h and they're still coming out fresh from the oven. Fillings are flavorful and seasoned well. Also tried the pork belly and chicken & brie which are yum. Would recommend.

The Culverden Bakery and their Southern Man Pie are just epic. Read my review of their Southern Man Pie in the Facebook group Best Pies in NZ. Steak Onion Cheese Egg. Egg and Cheese topping on a Steak and Onion Pie basically with Mince around the Steak not gravy jelly. Better than a Fairlie Bakehouse Pie that is very high praise indeed. 👍

Wouldn't usually be going this way but with the Arthurs Pass closed and Lewis Pass only option to the west coast open, we stopped for some take away breakfast and were not disappointed. Pie's had good fillings, service was quick and polite, bakery was clean. If ever passing through again, we will be making this a stop for a tummy top up. SALAMAT.

Best little pie shop north of Christchurch, not only pies, they will serve you good coffee as well. I always stop here for a tasty bite or coffee whenever I'm in the area. It may be a little unprepossessing from the outside, don't let that put you off everything inside is great.

We generally love pies from here. The flavours are great, the pastry is beautiful. Marked down a little after my most recent experience. My chicken and brie pie was found to have some sort of filler substance. Neither my husband or I could even tell what it was. Maybe mashed potato or stuffing, but it was flavourless and stodgy (it was not uncooked dough). Was very disappointed and half the pie went in the bin. Most unusual from this place. Hubby's pies had no issues and he found them to be up to the normal excellent standard.

Great selection of pies, filled rolls and drinks. Maybe a cover over the scones would be a good idea. The fly screen door stays ajar. That aside a good break stop.

Just stopped this morning and am impressed. I bought a pie, coffee and date scone and all were excellent. I don't think I've ever had a better pie - it was the 'southern man'. Brilliant bakery and if I ever pass through again I will definitely be back.

Best pies we have tasted in years. Large, well formed pastry packed with very plentiful, quality ingredients. Pork belly and steak and mushroom were stand outs for stopping off on your drive for lunch or taking home. Worth every cent

Vicious! Steak and cheese pie was perfect. Had good height, crisp top with the real Mccoy steak and cheese filling. They have not skipped quality. Lady behind the till is a weapon running the band herself and still quick service. Support local!

Pretty decent pies. Wish they would bring back the chicken and corn the previous owners used to do.
