Sheila and I had the best breakfast ever in this lovely understated cafe in New Zealand. Not only was the food stunningly fresh, beautifully presented, deliciously flavoured, perfectly cooked it was accompanied with the friendliest and most politite and understated service by a most courteous young Moari Lady who made our day. I thoroughly recommend stopping off and dining here if you are travelling in the Hawkes Bay area.

Anyone heading through Danyverk, this is a must stop. Coffee, food and service was one of the best I've experienced! I'd rate it higher if I could.

The best cafe food, especially the baking! Caramel apple cake is out of this world, and the best chicken pie ever - tasty and superb flakey pastry!

Just had lunch at the Catching Pen and it was fantastic! We had the catching pen burger and tender chicken sandwich and they were both great and my mum raved about the tropical and Kawakawa tea! Can't wait to go back and try some of the delicious looking cake!

Left the Bay very early (it was chucking it down). Skipped breakfast. The Catching Pen arrived just as the hunger hit me and the coffee craving for the coffee drinker. It did the trick. Good coffee and a big plate of bacon and eggs. Everything you would expect.

Came in for a coffee on our way up to the Bay. We're local and second time in 4 years we've visited the catching pen. Great service. And the latte for me was spot on, and hubby's chai latte was spot on as well. Definitely going to come back.

Nice vibe inside, quick service, and great food with large portions. It'd probably be my go-to cafe if I lived closer

We had lunch here after a day trip from Carterton. The food was lovely. The young guy and girl that served us were absolutely lovely and got our order just right. Hubby said it's the best " big breakfast " he's had for ages. Thanks guys.

Nice cafe with nice food! However, I would love to give 5 star if the front staff (barista) smiled and said "hello!" or said some greeting words when we came in.

Nice little diner. Middle of Dannevirke. Great sheep shearing theme. Fantastic service! Food a bit disappointing. When you advertise a big breakie, make it a big breakie! Good big sausages bacon heaps of eggs

Stopped in on Monday on the way home and had the best french toast with bananas and Bacon ever! The bread was brioche, the Bacon crispy, and the bananas caramalised. It was perfect 🤗
