My visit to the Fat Beagle Cafe in Darfield was a breakfast experience beyond compare. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. What truly stood out was their dedication to customer satisfaction. The staff listened attentively to our preferences, ensuring that the breakfast was tailored to our liking, resulting in a delicious meal. The food quality was exceptional, with a menu boasting a wide variety of options. From the hearty breakfast dishes to the delectable coffee, every aspect was outstanding. The Fat Beagle Cafe is undoubtedly a must-visit for anyone seeking great food and a memorable breakfast experience.
The Fat Beagle is awesome. Very quaint and cosy. Great coffee and the team were super friendly. Good quick service too which is always nice. I tend to always go for the big breakfast and The Fat Beagles was probably the best I can recall having. The scrambled eggs were exceptionally scrummy and the bacon nice and crispy. If in Darfield The Fat Beagle is a MUST!!!!
It was a good wait for food and drink (around 25 minutes) but it was SO WORTH IT. I had the roasted veggie frittata with beet/lentil salad, raw raspberry cheesecake and an iced coffee. Honestly, my favourite eats so far in NZ. There was a cute little artsy shop in the building that was unfortunately closed, would have loved to browse while waiting for the snacks. Hats off to the chef in the kitchen, it really hit the spot. Thanks for having some really tasty veg and vegan options!!
Great cafe/gift store. Good selection of cabinet food, friendly staff. Place feels clean and does good coffee. Good alternative in this wee town 😊 (coffee card buy 9 and the 10th one is free)
Staff were friendly and kids friendly. Tried the Eggs Benedict with Bacon 🥓, Open Grilled Toastie, kids Pancakes 🥞 (Banana & Maple)
Hard to know where to stop given the choices along the main route of Darfield but this old General Store is the place.

Bit of a hiccup with our meal order not coming out. Had to go ask where our meal was. Apparently they've got a new system and it didn't talk to the kitchen. Once the mistake was acknowledged we recieved complimentary coffees and then the meals shortly after. I appreciated the honesty regarding the waiting. Meals once arrived were great. Coffee was good.
Good coffee, I had soup of the day, happy with my selection. Normally I call in for their passionfruit & lemon friands which are divine. The staff were attentive/ Friendly.
The Fat Beagle Café, seems a very popular spot. The style of the Café was welcoming and the toilets were clean. The food, I ordered the Pancakes with Banana and Maple Syrup (As seen in the picture). I believe it was one of best Pancakes I have ever had. Overall 5 Star, Nice Food, Nice Building, Nice Café. What else could you ask for on a Sunday Lunchtime? Definitely will be back.

Accommodating for us vegans. Would travel for this coffee easily.
Never heard or knew of this place but we needed a light lunch stop and were passing on our road trip that day. There were nice tables outside and plenty room inside. The cabinet food looked fabulous and the specials menu was tempting but we both plumped for the roast vege fritata which was delicious and the coffees were great too. Will have to remember this place for the future and try the other food. Worth calling in
