Been wanting to go here for ages as it’s always looked like such a cute and quirky cafe.
Menu on zomato is a little outdated. I ordered the bagel special on the board which was whipped feta and avocado (and added bacon) $19 and my friend ordered the French toast with bacon $17. I also ordered a cappuccino
The food was really good! Large portion sizes and presented really well. They were not stingy on the bacon or avocado which was great. Only downside they did forget my coffee but gave me it a little later after reminder with a free coffee card which was nice. The coffee itself wasn’t the best though felt quite watery.
The service is a bit slow but it’s a good cafe with great vibes. nice place for a slow morning where you aren’t in a rush 🙂
Just had the best savoury scone of my life from Morning Magpie, Mushroom, Red Onion, Feta and Caper. I would have posted a photo but was too good so was eaten too quick!
Once again, outstanding food.
Favourite cafe in town ! Best bagels and amaze coffee. Rad staff🍴☕️️ & great vibe. Must try the chemex coffee! It's my go to or just a long black. Reminds me of cafes in Melbourne !
Back when I was still studying down in Dunedin, Morning Magpie was my go to place for coffee with my friends since it opened. Not only the coffee was great but the staffs were friendly and the interior of the cafe was what caught my attention.
A colleague and I stopped in for lunch recently. I must say I was impressed. The atmosphere was very old school, but in a pleasant way.
There were a number of very old books and board games on offer that we both found very nostalgic.
The nachos were of a very high standard, came in a very large helping and were inexpensive. My colleague was equally impressed with his own food purchases.
If not for the fact we were in a hurry, we would probably have spent the day there playing the old boardgames.
Strongly recommend
A group of 3 for coffee and food. Something different for Dunedin. Interesting day-cor making for conversations. Muffin not flash but very good coffee. Got very busy with cruise ship people. More staffing for that time of the day.
The Morning Magpie easily features as one of my most liked specs to sip a long black with a friend or book. The coffee I had there this morning was very good and the space of the cafe is just unorthodox to be interesting but not jarring, indeed, it is very pleasant.
Absolutely fab cafe, super coffee (freshly roasted) and brunch, friendly staff. Love the fit out, and would so recommend to all!. PS love that they use local produce, thats a winner!
The baristas make great coffee here, along with fantastic food. I Highly recommend this establishment for weekend brunch or for coffee on the go.
Many of the edibles are made in-house, often displayed on the counter for all to see. Cakes, slices, rolls and ready to-go bagel sandwiches.
I have been going to this place since it opened up a couple of months ago and love it!
Great coffee and always coming out with more food everyday now I'm assuming they have found their feet a bit more.
The decor is amazing and have really cool art. A great chill spot in an area of town that has been in real need of a good cafe.
Also has some great looking staff which is always a treat!
Funky cafe near work, which is great to take clients for a coffee. The guy that runs it is awesome, always friendly and chatty. Great decor as well. Beautiful coffee Had to pick a month that we have visited, but been several times.
Visited when I was down visiting a friend from Christchurch. Was a lovely space, with really nice staff. We bit of a wait for coffee, but it was super busy. Had time to ask the staff about the coffee - they roast it themselves in Dunedin. Really smooth with a slight orange acidity. The decor and feel of the space was just lovely, warm, homely, and full or really amazing art work. All the staff were friendly and very helpful as we had a small child. Cant wait too visit again next time in Dunedin! Tess.
Oh la la. What a great place to grab a fast bite, or spend your time, fill up and get that report completed. Amazing sandwiches, whether you’re a veggie or vegan. And comfortable and plenty of seating and nice decor.
Love the eclectic decor in this cafe! This was our favorite breakfast haunt during our time in Dunedin. The food items here are a little different from what you will find elsewhere, yet the twists work! For example, the sardine shashuka was delicious!
Cabinet food is delightful, fresh and filling. I particularly enjoyed the Reuben sandwich which had really yummy bread. Coffees were well done. However it did take a while for our meals to come out and it wasn’t that busy. Staff are nice too and the cafe itself has a good vibe.
Delicious food and awesome coffee. Also they have awesome staff and a great atmosphere. Best old school arcade machines in town.
Made an impromptu visit to Maggies this past weekend 😅
Let's just say I've found my new favorite cafe! If I could rate this cafe out of 10 stars, il give them all 10! 🌟
The service was incredible! The food was devoured within minutes.. served fresh, hot and ready to eat! I ordered the miso mushroom toastie and my husband ordered the breakfast burrito - both were incredibly delicious and packed with flavor👌🏻
Apart from the excellent food, the atmosphere at this cafe will leave you wanting to come back for more 😉 Plenty of seating available. Parking available alongside and opposite the cafe 💃
P.S: Don't forget to say hi to the little doggy that roams around inside the cafe ☺️
It offers a cozy atmosphere with great coffee and yummy food( especially pies and curly fries), and a heart warming welcome from a lovely dog :)
Ordered the apple and peach pie and hot chocolate. The apple pie was one of the best we’ve had! Interior was super cozy and pretty. If you’re driving, parking is $4/hr outside. They have a cute resident doggy too.
Came just before noon for a quick bite, there was a short line which moved pretty quickly. Ended up grabbing the miso mushroom 🍄 toastie, and waited a fairly long time for what we though for the toastie to came out, later it was explained it was microwaved then finished on a pan. Either way, tasted fantastic and crunchy, although the bread was a little stringy due to it being microwaved but couldn't fault the flavour at all.
Loved the overall venue and vibe of the place, would definitely come back for some food, just be aware of the wait times.
Place is clean and have unique atmosphere. Food was delicious but arrived a bit late.
Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great food and coffee!
