These guys have great beers on tap, a garden bar, and a really nice ambiance. The only real criticism I have is that given its proximity to the uni, they would do a lot more business if they offered more affordable lunches. I often pass it up knowing that better value can be had elsewhere. Can't comment too much on the food, other than the wedges were good?
As nostalgia kicks in, thought of reviewing Eureka today. This place was a regular hangout during University days. I am not sure if they still serve the Venison which was a favorite and used to wash it down with an ice cold Speights Ale. If memory serves me correctly this place was run and owned by the Chef himself. Purveyors of good food, used to be the placard on the wall back in the day and rightly so.
Ordered a brownie $6 with yogurt. . It was delish! My friend ordered the banoffee pie.. i thought that was fantastic too.. however she wasn't too impressed by it. . maybe it was the price ..around $13.
Comfy and nice setting. Very sweet and hits the sugar craving.
Was recommended the brownies here. Bought two (PB and classic) - boy that was a mistake. These babies are so dense they could kill someone if it were dropped the wrong way. Super fudge-y, and enough cocoa content to knock out a small child. Delish.
I think Eureka are absolutely awesome. staff are great and very easy to deal with, the food is great and the ability for kitchen staff to change a menu to gluten free is second to none. the drinks menu is absolutely fantastic and i'd be there every day if I could afford it. but till friday next week, I can't.
great work Sharleen & Dave, the work and service you give / do is fantastic.
Love love LOVE Eureka! have been going every week for years (often more than once a week). The food is great, the staff just awesome, beer & wine sections second to none. The staff are amazing at really taking care of their customers and making them feel welcome.
Keep up the the good work team, I'll see you all next Friday :-)
I had the best steak in Dunedin. I ordered med-rear, so they cooked just i really wanted. Friendly service, lots of smile even in the kitchen. I love it! I've been 5 times so far, I had never ever been disappointed with them. Excellent operation by owner, I guess.
Lively and friendly, with fantastic food. I had one of the specials and it was completely delicious. It wasn't hugely quick but it was clear that it was freshly cooked and served up promptly. Good wine, pleasant clientele and a comfortable atmosphere. Would love to come here with a group of friends next time and spend the whole evening!
Great atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff. My venison steak was amazing - very tender and perfectly medium-rare. My brother got the pork, which was also delicious. The food was a bit pricey but well-worth it in terms of quality - definitely worth spending the extra $10 or $15 to get a really nice meal.
We went for a meal the other night and was not sure when we saw the restaurant but once inside it was great. The staff were right there to seat you and show menu and get drinks. The meal was great as well. Would recommend to all and would also go back again.
Excellent venue, lovely setting and atmosphere!! Friendly/helpful staff. The food was delicious and arrived promptly. Wine was a little expensive for house wine, but other than that excellent
Great place to goto for dinner. Went on Sunday and had a great dinner, the chicken roulade I had was cooked perfectly and the steak that my wife had almost melted in her mouth.
The service was very warm and friendly and once we were served we were left alone to enjoy our meal (I hate it when people come up to you every 5 minutes to see if your ok)
They were not very busy but I was watching the staff Laughing and having fun on the kitchen and realised they seem to have something that alot of places don't - Staff that enjoy what they do!!!
Great Place, will be back.
Great food, excellent service from friendly staff. My only complaint is the time it takes for the food to get to your table... but unless I'm so hungry that I need to eat *right now*, I'm happy to eat again at Eureka.
Eureka has a lovely atmosphere with very helpful staff. The food is excellent and ranges from simple lunch snacks to a full dinner. The location is very convenient and the price range is reasonable. The only thing I could fault Eureka on is their coffee, which is not that nice.
A pleasant bar for really good beer and pub food. Broad range of beers on tap so there's something for everyone. Food menu is limited in scope to a few dishes that they do really well.
Plenty of space for a friendly gathering. You can watch a game, and they're open till 10 in the evening. Staff are very well trained and professional.
I’ve been coming here for years. And I think it’s been run by the same people over those years.
Taking my kids for a Friday lunch while they went through uni.
And still pop back now and again if I’m in the area.
I had the roast beef sandwich which I loved. And I had a beer. They have good beers on tap.
There are two outside areas. One is smoking and one is non smoking. So that’s a great idea too.
I forgot to get a pic sorry.
We had our work end of year party in the outside area and it was great. Big heaters for the cold, sheltered, private, and the food was unanimously declared 'yummy'! Will definitely go back. Thanks guys 😃
Was delicious. Hidden gem in North Dunedin. Gives off sports bar vibes, but the food is excellent. Finally a gastro pub that lives up to the name. We had the steak and the nachos. Would definitely come again.
Really enjoyed my experience here. The place is pretty big, but it gives off the feeling of being small and cozy due to the way the cafe is laid out. The staff were friendly and quick and the food was pretty incredible. I had the siracha maple friend chicken open sandwich and it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. If I'm back in Dunedin, I'll likely return to this place.
Lovely ambience to this pub that serves triple chocolate craft beer among the many brews available. Limited hot tea & coffee selection though I guess this is a pub!
I thought the polenta chips were nice but the small portion size certainly didn't match the price. $3 each for a yummy small crumbed cauliflower & cheese croquette I thought was equally overpriced
Husband ordered the nachos and I chose two tacos. Both really delicious mains, filling and clean tasting. Great drinks selection. For dessert we shared the brownie. This not only the best brownie I've ever eaten, but the best restaurant dessert I've ever had. Definitely give it a go. Can't fault anything! We'll be back.
Loved going here! Even though it was very busy when we arrived they quickly found us a table (party of 4) which was very comfortable. Service was friendly and efficient.
Atmosphere is relaxed and cosy despite the decent size, and I would'nt say it's too cramped.
I ordered gluten free seafood chowder which was delicious and creamy, and came with actually nice gluten free bread! What a treat. Nice big portion size and very affordable at only $18 if I remember correctly. Will definitely be going again!
Fantastic New menu at Eureka, great place with lots of different areas to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, food and bar with a drink for everyone. We had the small plates to share, next time will be the Large plates and maybe dessert. Yum thanks team
