If you are looking for a great little place to kick back and eat some very good rather quick food, especially a large portioned hamburger, this may be your ticket. As a couple visiting from the USA. It was almost perfect. We sat at hightop bar stools over looking the street while we feasted on nice sized hamburgers and a large bowl of skinny fries. A wine and beer. The ladies behind the counter were very helpful in getting things ordered.

OG BEEF & HOT CHIPS - Recommended food here. The buns were soft, there were plenty of sauce inside and the meat pattie was deliciously cooked, but would have preferred the pattie to be more mince-like texture. The hot chips were cooked perfectly golden and crunchy. The aoili sauce complemented it well.

Dunedin is nice, small place and Velvet burger is a place where you want to eat every day. They also have vegetarian meals.

Grateful for the Tuesday 241 deal! Finally had my first veggie burger ever here, didn't have high expectations but man was I blown away by the animal rights burger! The patty was delish, the accompaniment of veges were fresh and crisp, and as I neared the end of my burger, it was not at all soggy or dripping my gross. The mint yogurt sauce was a great addition to the burger, you could really taste the creamy-ness. Mini version is just as good. The fries here are also pretty good, they were well done and crispy, just how I like them. They could’ve been saltier, and found myself reaching for the salt shaker a few too many times! Beetdrop is a cute little intro to velvet I reckon, and although not the first burger I ever ate from them, I've tried it and it's good. Not much to say, the beef patty is standard and the beetroot is alright, it's a good burger but it's nothing super special that made me go woW'. For the price, probably just indulge in something else a bit more exciting. The goneburger upon first impression was not as big as I thought it be. However it was delish, love a good burger with all the meats (ironic having tried animal rights first I know) and all the meats were cooked well. Wasn't majorly blown away by it, but it was a fresh burg. Babe is a goodie too, didn't have huge expectations but upon first bite into the burger, the crumbed chicken breast wasn't dry and it was crunchy and tasty. Luxe bird was a bit of a let down, the fried chicken was dry and not very tasty, and the burger was filled with stringy pieces of rocket making it look very sad and empty when you opened it up. The only positive to this burger was the chili mayo which added a lovely kick, but otherwise definitely not spectacular. Big bro is a great take on a kiwi classic 'kiwi burger' and I knew I was gonna enjoy it. The egg, beef, beetroot and bacon are just amazing paired together. So good, there's also mushroom and cheese-ultimate yuuumm, can't go wrong with this one, and the beef patty is tender and cooked well, just a little thin in my opinion but otherwise tasty!! Just a note that for someone who's never been a huge fan of bread-the burger buns have consistently been tasty and done to a good standard. I love the speckled look of the buns and they're just always fresh and soft. King saddleback is yuuuuum, the pork was real well sauces and paired with the greens, a really fulfilling burger with nice taste and just something perfect to go to if you're not feeling like a typical patty. Enjoyed this a lot! Velvet holds some good memories for me when I was in Dunedin, really got me started on the burger train and the 241 is a steal. I’m in Auckland now and sadly it didn’t give me the mems Dunedin one bought, something but Dunedin velvet or maybe just so key in a student’s life.

Great service, friendly staff. Only one gripe which was I ordered fries and wasn't told you have to buy sauce separately. So I ran up top and they gave me a punnet of sauce, for $2 it wasn't actually that much aioli but it was great tasting, the chips were crispy and salted perfectly and the burger was tasty as well, with a nice amount of salad in it. Would always recommend velvet burger for a nice cozy enviroment downstairs with a great little courtyard out the back. Don't forget the great food!

Very tasty burger and sweet potato fries! Plenty of gluten free options too, just not the fries as they’re all cooked together in the same oil

Velvet Burger is nice. I went here with a friend on a '241 Tuesday' promotion that they often run (On Tuesdays). The burgers are a suitable size at approx. 138mm in diameter. The ingredients tasted fresh and the patty tasted authentic. The price when on special makes these excellent value and I look forward to trying more on their menu. Though, I probably wouldn't get this burger at full price.

Always great tasting burgers. Really can’t go to wrong here. Has become a regular visit on trips to Dunedin. 2021 update, been a while between visits, but still as great as ever. Chicken burger was amazing

Famous burger store in Dunedin. Easy to locate. Beef burger is huge and the sauce is all over the burger. That was just too much for me. There are some tables in the basement. And some outdoor tables available in the balcony. Not easy to park, better park in outskirt and walk here. We didn’t wait too long to get served. Restroom is in the basement and quite clean. Not good for baby stroller.

I had my first Goneburger here last year and I could not forget the taste even in my dreams. Christchurch branch is just not doing as good as Dunedin's. I have had quite some burgers in the whole country, and I am confident to tell you that their Goneburger is definitely one of the best burgers in the whole NZ. Vegan? Try their Animal Rights, you will be amazed.

I had OG Brown and it was perfect. For $20 you get pretty big burger, just the bun is weirdly “floured” and it makes a mess in your hands and on the table a lot.

I’ve been a regular at velvet for years and years! Never had a bad experience with them and always left feeling satisfied :) however… the other night I dove into one of my favourites ‘The Big Brown’ fantastic burger with double beef and double cheese, I get two bites in and I can feel something solid in my mouth, I genuinely thought it was my tooth and freaked out a little, but was calm once I realised it was only a screw (Half of one) sorry to whoever has the other half of the screw I hope you were as lucky as me and noticed it :D I finished the burger (slowly) and it was really good. Mistakes happen and I thought I should probably bring this to Velvets attention because it was pretty serious, I’m not fussed though! Got offered a refund which was awesome! Hope the screw didn’t come out of something important :D
