Our go to for authentic Chinese dishes. So many great options. They have proper handmade dim sums and desserts/buns. Similar to what you can get if you're in China. True to the flavours and ingredients. Always a good experience eating here.

Came for a hearty flat dinner on 3/3/19, and a lovely hearty dinner were we served! Definitely up there, unfortunately not comparable to places in Auckland, but for Dunedin it's not bad! Prices were average, similar to other Asian restaurants in town, and the portion sizes are also similar and standard to places such as chopsticks. The quality was definitely there, it was less busy than chopsticks but I felt like this added quality to our order when they were busy preparing it in the kitchen! We ordered quite a few items and the servers were very lovely and patient. They also have a yum cha menu which is yummy and decent, second to Si Chuan 88, their menu is just not as extensive, but the quality is there! Special pork chop 4/5 Perfect texture, sweet and tangy, soft to chew very special! Tastes just like your typical well done sweet and sour pork but with some bone!! Everyone enjoyed. Sour fish soup 4/5 Very tender fish, great accompaniment choice with vermicelli. Mild flavor good soup. Sizzling beef 3.5/5 Tender and Smokey but a bit on the salty side. Easy to chew and flavor is good. Good variety of vegetables. Fried noodle 2.5/5 Just your average noodles nothing too special, typical not over the top oily savory taste. Spare ribs 3/5 Bit dry but good to chew. Meat was a bit tough but the taste was not bad, also slightly crunchy exterior. Beef brisket 5/5 Really tasty, recommend!! Good flavor and the meat is very tender with good ratio of fat to lean meat. Very saucy and was delicious! Beans 2.5/5 Bit hard and not as tender as I've had at other restaurants but flavor was still good, slightly sweet but no wow factor. Ma po tofu 4/5 Good tender tofu accompanied with bits of (pork?) meat and other vegetables, very saucey and quite delicious.

I very much recommend Golden Island! Tried the Prawn dumplings and Braised Pork Belly. Both were excellent. I'll definitely be back!

We were planning on having brunch at Booster Greens but they were packed out. Walked past Golden Island and the menu photos caught our eye. We went in and the place was spotless and clean. Lady at the counter was welcoming and seated us straight away. You can see into the cooking area and it is so so clean!!! The food came out promptly and honestly so tasty and delicious. Great price for a lot of yum kai. Most definitely recommend!!!

Met my expectations. Reasonable prices for good portions. Friendly and helpful staff with quick service. Plenty of space for groups. I had the Beef Brisket noodle soup, it was yum. They don't have the spicy chilli oil but crushed chilli &garlic mix with other oils and sauces also beers and wines. Definitely will be back to try other soup noodles👍

This is a small Chinese restaurant hidden away in Dunedin Town centre. Came here for a celebration with family and friends. Surprisingly, the cooking here was good, and food was tasty. Though the style of cooking is different from our home country. Quite affordable, forget about the conversion rate. Helpings of food were generous.

The restaurant is located in the CBD area. The place is quiet even though there are a lot of foot traffic. The food was great and the serving size was huge, didn't expect that and we ordered quite a few from the menu. A goog place to eat for group of people. A definite must try if you're in the area looking for Chinese food.

Me and my partner decided to try this place as it opened relatively recently, and we were not disappointed! We ordered lots of starters, which are normally on the yum cha menu during lunch. The tripe and the fried squid were probably my favourites, but all of the dishes were really good! Even my partner who is normally hard to impress was really happy with all of the food. The place also has a really nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. We’re definitely going back!

Came for a bowl of congee which was PERFECT and just what I needed. The guy working front of house went out of his way to customise my order and seemed happy to do it (overall great vibe). I felt silly for only spending $9 when service was this great, so I added a takeaway noodle dish for lunch tomorrow. So happy I did! I tried it tonight and it's lovely, so many fresh veggies and very nicely made. Will definitely be back. Thanks for dinner (and lunch)!

Their roasted duck is probably one of the best that I've had in New Zealand. Chicken sticky rice and other yum cha menu items are really delicious too. Totally recommended.

Traditional Chinese food, Chinese and English spoken here. The waitress was very helpful. Good selection of food on the menu, the dishes were quite large. I had hot spicy fish soup in a massive bowl which would have served 4 people. My wife had duck with rice. The food was tasty and well presented.
