I like it and they have recently added hot chips and wedges to the menu and they are good for my standard I wish they would add a bit more aioli and tomato sauce with it but it's fine but one down side is that birds get inside very easy and it's kinda gross when your eating but I like that you can look out over the pond and towards the aviary up the hill
Under new management . We have changed and keep changing. Feel free to come down to have a coffee or chat with us. We would like to create a place that will suit everyone as we are located inside a very special garden.
The vegetarian lentil rolls at this cafe are delicious. They were one of my favourite cafe food items in Dunedin when I lived there.
The atmosphere and decor in the cafe may not be great, but the lentil rolls and view of the gardens make up for that according to me.
Absolutely fantastic coffee and cake. Naturally, I had the non-fattening sort of cake (yeah, right!) but it was really good. Prices are fair and the service quite OK and happy. I'd go back.
I visited there with my family. They were very friendly and nice. Also, coffee was amazing. I love to drink again.
But chicken burger was disappointed to my husband. They may use frozen chicken patties although it was $16.5. However l am happy with diablo. It was $13.5 and it is a reasonable price.

Always a good time at the crocodile cafe, been going there since i was a kid, and back there for. Latte and a muffin after the parkrun 👍

The staff were really happy, helpful and chipper. The food was pretty good, esp the counter food. Lots of crepe options, but no fresh berries.
I would have rated 5 but the coffee wasn't great / seemed over extracted or had another problem making it bitter. Might have just be an off day for the barista.
The food is good for the price, and it has a great location and a good view. But I would stay away from the coffee.
My wife and I had a great day out at the gardens and had an overall nice time at the Croque-O-Dile Cafe. It had a great view of the gardens and a good view of the duck pond and the Leith.
I had some great wedges and my wife loved her hot chocolate and slice. However the coffee machine temperature was clearly set to high and the coffee grind was too fine. This resulted in over extracted, burnt, very bitter tasting coffee without any of the smoothness and subtle fruity or fudgy notes that you would normally get from a well made coffee.
Overall I would recommend this cafe, but stick to the hot chocolates if you go there.

I love going to the cafe in the Botanic gardens. Set in such a peaceful place one cannot but enjoy it. The owner and staff are friendly and very willing to oblige customers. I adore the sparrows (being a bird lover) and wish people would relax and appreciate the surroundings. So much better than the busyness of city life. I always try to go there soon after opening, as lunch time is very popular. Lets give more positive feedback.
Ordered the eggs bene with bacon and mushroom. It was delicious and the hollandaise was some of the best I've ever tasted. Excellent service as well.
Always pleasant to visit. Good quick coffee and snacks. And the beautiful surroundings of the Botanical Gardens.
Nice cafe to sit down and the food is good. You can feed the ducks and pigeons at the pond. Take a quick round the park ride on the train
