It was a packed Saturday evening, but the service was still fast and we got our food within 15 minutes after our order. Totally would return to try the other dishes.
I’m always on the look out for a good Korean bbq and I’ve been to a few in Auckland that just have not left a last impression. This one did.
Daamso looks like a bit of a rundown tired cafe from the outside that needs a bit of a Reno (so no glam kpop style trimmings here) but the food and quality and variety on the menu was a winner as was the lovely friendly service and the overall vibe in this ever crowded restaurant.
Liked:
1. Excellent variety in their offer with marinated and I marinated meats to order, a good selection of cooked Korean dishes, a nice variety of side dishes.
2. No minimum per pax order unlike some of their competitors around the corner.
3. Must tries - their spicy squid and seafood pancakes. Use the pancakes to mop up the sauce from the squid - heavenly and toast the pancakes on the grill to eat them crispy and hot.
4. Friendly owners and staff. The place is very busy as it’s got a great following amongst local Koreans, Asian families and korean food lovers. And yet the lovely owner - comes around to give you a hand at the table if you are having problems searing your meats and flips them over for you like a pro. The lady boss at the counter was so nice and handed out two yoghurt drinks to our kids before we left and said - “here something for your daughters!” Just such a nice hospitable touch today our overall experience.
5. Place may not have the glam element of a trendy or authentic k-restaurant but at the end I enjoyed the home-style feel of the place and the overall “vibe” of everyone enjoying their meals and chatting away and the hustle and bustle without feeling rushed to clear a table for the next crowd coming in.
Definitely coming back to this place.
I've been here twice and I'd come here more if it was more convenient. Love the large portions and the food is flavorful. Pretty spacious place with nice decor as well.
Easily one of the best if not the best Korean restaurant in East Auckland. Food is always nice and fresh and consistent. We always get the squid pork and tofu soup. Price is very reasonable. Highly recommend this place to Korean food lovers.
This is my go-to korean place whenever I'm out east. They have excellent service and really good food. I alway get their bulgogi and it has the perfect mean/vege ratio. They serve your mains alongside a good variety of side dishes. Definitely worth it for its value.
I wasn't necessarily expecting much from this spot tucked away in East Tamaki, but colour me impressed! A warm level of spice, great flavour in all the dishes, and especially tasty al-tang (fish roe soup). The banchan was quickly refilled, and the portions were perfect - we ordered 5 dishes with 2 extra rice bowls between 7 people and were definitely satisfied. Definitely would come back for a casual lunch or dinner!
Stir-fried dishes: 8/10
Al-tang: 8.5/10
Had a lunch with my hubby and mother-in-law on Sat. The stew is pretty good, and side dishes also came really fast and with so many varieties. The only thing is price, as a senior foodie I’ve been to heaps Korean restaurants across Auckland, I can honestly say I’ve never seen a tofu stew would cost over $14, however, all the stews here are between $18–$22, and the tofu stew is almost like a mini size.
Very busy but service was still very good, food is delicious and always on point and priced very good
Had lunch here today. Great service and great food. Had the spicy beef soup which was very very spicy but very delicious and the spicy chicken and vegetables ( I requested mild) very tasty. Came with rice and 7 side dishes. Will definitely be back
Visited few times. Always busy.
if you don't have booking you will not be treated nicely.
Wouldn't rate their Bibimbap.
Other meals are ok. Consistent. will fill you up with the side dishes.
Their BBQ: very average..
Just a reminder, check your bill if you are going with a group.
i have caught twice. charged one extra dish to the bill. both the time same lady staff
(not the owner). Not apologetic at all.
maybe genuine mistake,
Still rate them 4 stars.
closer to 3.5
came with my Korean friend and he was not very impressed with the service or quality of the food on that day
his order was left out, and apparently very bland in taste
i know my friend has been here several times before and usually not as bad
my dish was good portion size and not bad (as my friend recommended me to grab it 😅)
The staff are polite and very attentive. We assume she is the overall manager of the restaurant as she refilled our banchan without us having to ask and they are generous with their banchan serving portions as well.
The spicy stir fried is squid is delicious. You can taste the smokiness. However if there are many of you eating together and don't mind sharing, having the budae jiggae is a must. Very flavourful, spicy and filling. Warms you up when it is cold, dreary and raining.
This place is always a reliable choice with good food, good customer service and reasonable price. One of the rare Korean Restaurant serve Korean sausage. Love it!
Walked in on a Sunday evening. Staffs were friendly, and even guided us through the menu, along with all the seasonings on the table.
Food was alright with the price. Also my first time having Korean pork sausage soup, saltiness was just on point, so that the natural flavour of pork tendon just stood out!
The restaurant has a good amount of traditional Korean dishes and also a bbq menu with a variety of meats to choose from.
The portion of the dishes were good for the price and definitely filling. The dishes tasted delicious and came steaming and bubbling.
There are side dishes here like most Korean restaurants, don’t feel bad about wanting to refill the side dishes. We ended up refilling 3 times. The staff never judged us and served us with great pleasure each time. The atmosphere in the restaurant lovely and did. It feel overcrowded at all.
Overall, this restaurant is a super good place to eat with family and friends wanting to try authentic Korean food. The restaurant does fill up quite quickly, a booking maybe required but we just showed up.
Taste: 4.5/5

Our favourite place to get Korean food, we come here at least once a week since the day it just opened.
The place might get very busy, but staffs are always welcoming and attentive. Even when I came there with my newborn, the Korean boss lady gave her a cuddle and played with her when she started crying so I could enjoy my meal. My toodler son always gets a little treat from her, sometimes a pack of dried seaweed, sometimes a small drink. We love you, ajumma.
Food comes reasonably fast and always hot and yummy. We have tried many items in their menu but were never disappointed with anything. A good selection of side dishes too. Price is reasonable compare to the quality of food you get.
Great korean place for East side, offers a good portion for the prices and the side dishes normally changes so you won't be bored from eating the same kind.
The services is really good, just that it's really busy so normally best to make bookings.
Loved the food here!! Love the sides and the spiciness and flavours of the pork was delicious. Expected customer service. Nice environment and comfy. Wait time for food could slightly be faster as there were only my table and another at a quiet hour however will come back.
Got to say one of the best places with customer service and the staff are so friendly n polite. They were so amazing with our daughter and even gave her small gift. The food was amazing as well. We went around I believe 2:30-3:00 and the staff was having there lunch and we felt bad we were interrupting them. However they didn’t mind and stopped eating and looked after us so well. Checked on us many times. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Ambience quality of food and quantity service price everything was excellent. Will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
First time trying out this place. Great food and friendly staffs! We ordered beef rib soup, fish roe soup and seafood pancake. Everything was delicious but the pancake was a bit pricy.
We are usuals to this spot for work lunches. Decent portions that will have you not wanting to go back to work after lunch. Go-to dishes are the pork belly + squid and chicken.
Super friendly and welcoming staff!
Great spicy squid and pork sizzling plates, seafood pancake and beef sizzling with side dishes and rice, our new Korean place to go :)
Possibly the best Korean food restaurant in East Auckland. Recommend all their fried dishes and their pancakes. Their staff are really friendly and the portion sizes are quite big. Their side dishes are great and us always different
Ambiance - 3/5
Staff/Service - 5/5
Food - 3/5
Price - 4/5
A dining experience for my family is always made positive by staff who know how to entertain our energetic toddler. The people at Daamso surely did that today. This time, three complimentary packets of chewy fruit lollies did the trick. It surely helped me and my wife enjoy the food as it made my son remain seated.
We ordered 2 sets of bbq meat (one pork, one beef) plus a sizzling sweet beef with vegetables. The complimentary side dishes that came with the bbq's were quite good, but the number of side dishes is surely less than what their nearby competitor (Poong Ro) offers.
Love daamso!! The fish roe soup and soft tofu soup is so yummy! Don’t really like their korean bbq but rather order food from the menu which is a lot nicer.
One of the best Korean restaurants in Auckland! All the dishes we tried were full of flavour and the portion was HUGE. They didn’t slack on the meat either. Loved all the side dishes too. Only con is the service is a bit slow and not the most welcoming but hey, the food is great.
Would recommend the Grilled spicy squid with pork belly!

Honestly, love this place feels like home every time I come here with my family, such a friendly staff great environment, the owners are so kind even offers treats to the little once. Love love the food is so delicious they have so many side dishes along with your mains ❤ such a great restaurant 😊
Good feed! Ambience was nice, service was nice and food was delicious! I had the squid and pork belly bulgogi, it was really tasty and worth the expense! My partner had the chicken one and he really liked it. But the only downside is the side dishes. They’re too salty especially the kimchi. But overall, will come back for more and definitely will recommend to friends and family! ☺️
Food is good, service is super! They serve my son a bag of seaweed snack, make him very happy. I ordered the chickens stir fired, and beef bone soup. All nice! The rice is white blend with purple rice, and six side dishes. Recommend!
Food is very good, fair quantity of protein unlike a lot of places that could be cheap with giving meat. Last I went the wait was forever though there was a problem in the kitchen but the waitress let us know and was very nice.
I l😍ve this restaurant. Very welcoming and friendly first time experience having Korean BBQ. Thank you DaAm So for taking good care of us and the food was delicious.
Suddenly have cravings for Korean food, so just randomly browsing on Zomato and found this hidden gem, definitely one of the best Korean restaurants we’ve been to in Auckland. Really enjoyed their side dishes and the soft tofu & pork stew for lunch, went back there on the same day for dinner - had seafood pancake and spicy fish roe soup.
Nice friendly staff. Food served very quickly. We had spicy grilled squid with pork, bibimbap, sundubu (spicy tofu with pork) and spicy beef soup. All the spicy dishes were nicely balanced in terms of flavour. Not too salty or spicy like some other Korean restaurants. But if you are specifically after very spicy food I think none of these will satisfy your chilli craving. I think all four dishes suit my taste perfectly and the portions were very generous too. Plenty of side dishes served as well, seven plates of them, all refillable.
Would have given 4.5 if able to :)
Best Korean restaurant I have come across to-date. This is in terms of ability to find parking space, service, ambiance and food. This is the only restaurant I find by far providing 7 side dishes and they are refillable!! The price can be considered a bit on the high side for the location and comparing with Chinese restaurants but I think this is generally the case for most if not all Korean eateries. I ordered the stone pot bibimbap and requested to omit the beef. They happily catered to my request which was great as there were other places I went to who would not do that for me. I do not know how to judge a good Korean food but we were happy with our meals so far. The staff were polite and very efficient. They have a call button if you wish to get some attention when waving does not work. Also, I think this place would be suitable for families and gathering as it is quite spacious and child friendly. We were lucky to be there early as the seats around us filled up very quickly after that. The restaurant is located in an area that we did not even know exists so thanks to Zomato that we have now found a new favourite!
I had sausage stew and added ramen. It was quite big portion and shared with 8pple. Added 2 more dishes and 6 bawl of rice. Was yummy but bit salty for me. The waitress was really kind when we asked refill side dishes and the stew the soup, she was happy to do. Great service.
Made a booking on Thursday 30/08/18 For Sunday Evening 02/08/18 To Have Our Father's Day Dinner AND When We Got There, We Were Almost Turned Away Because For Some Reason My Booking Wasn't Written In Their Booklet. But Luckily, They Still Managed To Get Us a Table Eventually. To Be Honest I Was Very Unhappy Initially BUT HEY, Everyone Makes A Mistake Every Now And Then. End Of The Day, The Food & Service Was Excellent .
Amazing Korean restaurant!!! The best I’ve had so far! Portion size is generous, good selection of side dishes and everything tasted so good!!
We ordered the seafood fritter - good amount of seafood in it, nice and crispy but soft in the inside! The spicy beef soup was soooooo good aswell, generous beef and egg, not too spicy either.
Can’t wait to go back to it! 😍
This place is great! The food is always amazing and the customer service is one of the best. I had a little issue with my food and the staff were so apologetic and kind, they gave us many compensations and made sure we were happy. I love this place and I will definitely come back .. on many occasions
This is my go-to and probably the best korean restaurant I've tried. The staff practically knows me and my brothers haha. I always get G5(spicy pork and squid) for $17 with unlimited side dishes! I would say $17 is expensive however considering the unlimited sides(sides may change depending on the day) I'd say it's worth it. Plus their serving, as mentioned by mostly everyone else, is generous and will surely fill you up(if it doesnt idk what will). Staff are ofcourse friendly. The owner always greets everyone and sometimes gives kids treats which I found cute. Overall, give this place a try! You wont regret it ^_^
Polite and very nice staff. Only problem with me was the specific dish I ordered : tofu jelly soup with pork, it was sooooo bland and only had 2-3 small piece of pork inside , I had to take it back and get it seasoned and redone.
Sides can be refilled and the staff is very nice on helping us that and without hesitation.
I will definitely recommend the spicy beef soup which my friend had and it was amazing! I will return to try next time :)
Food is very delicious, we ordered takeaway and they even gave us some side dishes. Also side dishes have been provided with the spicy squid and stir fry beef, will definitely come back again to try other stuff.
food was amazing, but what really stood out to me was the service.
i asked one of the waiters that i needed another paper cup for water, but since it was dinner and the place was packed and loud he misheard me as saying "paper cut". despite the place being extremely busy at the time, he returned to our table with a bunch of bandaids for our "paper cut". it was one of the funniest things thats ive experienced at a restaurant but it really made me realise how good the service is and how the waiters actually care about their customers.
as for the food, all super delicious, all came out really quickly after ordering.
The best Korean restaurant in East Tamaki...
the Food look amazing what I love the most is beef rib soup .. all the staff are friendly and kind
they are always busy you need to book before you come .. will coming again
I love the place and use to go for weekend dinner specially when winter time super good for fish soup and beautiful kimchi. So Yummy food and good service. Thanks

One of my favourite Korean restaurant around the area! The owner is such a nice lady! She always offers little snacks for our child to help her settle down. Definitely appreciate that!
My favourite is the “bulgogi geongol” which is the beef stew. Its not spicy, so suitable for children. We often run out of soup and the owner will offer us additional soup free of charge. (: The barbecues are alright, offers similar options and portions comparing to other restaurants.
I would recommend making a booking for dinner, as the place often gets really busy. The restaurant is quite spacious, good for group gatherings.
Went to Da Amso this afternoon for lunch & ordered Spicy chicken with veggies & rice cakes, not expecting much; boy, was I mistaken. The chicken was soft & juicy & the rice cakes were mixed in with the spicy chicken that made it even more delicious. I'm really glad I went to this place. I think I may have found my new favourite Korean restaurant & best of all, it's near home.
I highly recommend this place to all.
Drove all the way from North Shore to try this place. As soon as I walked through the door, the restaurant was packed with people and I was immediately greeted with a smile. The staff here are bright and friendly and felt very welcomed. The food was out of this world. Not only the taste was good but also the servings were very VERY generous,, big portions and not only that, there were many side dishes as well. Would recommend who like or new to Korean food to give it a go. One of the best restaurants I have been too.
The spicy pork and squid dish was delicious! A bit spicy for me but still very tasty that I finished it! Great service, the staff were very accommodating even though it was busy. Upon payment at the counter they have a bowl of these delicious Korean peanut snacks!! I’d come back just for those!!
Have been eating at this Korean restaurant for several times. Friendly stuff and always happy to refill your side dishes! Have tried most of their soups and their seafood pancake is yummy 😋 bookings recommended during weekends, they are always super busy during the weekend.
Yeah this is a hands down 5. I absolutely loved it...the service is really good and the food is seriously delish.
I ordered their spicy pork and the chicken dish which came out with purple rice. Purple rice was actually really good and the spicy pork was hands down one of the best I've had from a korean restaurant. I could eat that everyday
EDIT: Most recent visits have shown new menu price increase of $2 per dish so what used to. be reasonable e.g. $15 for kimchi jjigae / sizzling meat is now $17 which frankly is overpriced for out east hence a rating change T__T. However, they are still buzzing with popularity because the food is still one of the better korean places out there.
Daamso is one of my favourite Korean places to dine at due to it's close proximity, generous serving sizes (we've had to takeaway our leftovers every time) and good variety of options on the menu. There's usually around 6 side dishes which are refillable at no extra charge and a great range of soju flavours in the fridge. Favourite dish of all time has to be the Dakdoritang- a spicy chicken stew which is even better with the addition of rice cake, and served with purple rice which makes it feel so much healthier than normal white rice. Also highly recommended are the kimchi stew, the seafood pancake, and the sizzling dishes!
Decided to lunch here after craving some Korean food and definitely was not disappointed!
I ordered the pork and squid dish, and side dishes came out promptly and my main not long after. Great service here, staff are very friendly and attentive when called. Most Korean restaurants are self serviced for water but it’s good here they do provide cups and bottles for you.
The food itself, good variety if side dishes, pleasantly surprised to see the glass noodles as a side dish! That and the seaweed were my favourite. Pork and squid were cooked well and generously covered in sauce and shredded cabbage. Went well with the purple rice.
Safe to say I have found another Korean favourite close to home! Highly recommend and will be back for more ☺️
First time here and it wouldn’t be the last. Stubbled across this place by accident, saw lots of people inside so decided to give it a try. Was not disappointed. Friendly staff and authentic Korean cuisine
Came here for Dinner. The customer service was lovely. We ordered the squid and pork sizzling plate and the chicken and veg sizzling plate. We got our dishes quite fast.
I love how you get a variety of side dishes along with any main that you order. It’s something I love about going to any Korean restaurant is that they all give side dishes with no additional charge.
The food was delicious and flavourful. I enjoyed everything we received, however I did feel that there was more Squid than Pork in sizzling plate,I would’ve like to have the same amount for both.
Overall I had a lovely experience 👍
Ambience 3/5
Food 4/5
Service 4/5
This restaurant is a bit hidden away but great value for money. As soon as we entered they greeted us, very attentive service and a family feel.
We ordered the Spicy Chicken with Vegetables and Paeju, which was a generous portion. Alongside your main you get side dishes and I love the soy sauce soaked potatoes.
Amazing place and will definitely visit again!
My favourite affordable korean place so far. Really authentic with great side dishes. Free refill. Seafood pancake so yummy. Only place relatively close to south Auckland.
I had a nice dinner with my girl friend. We had Korean rib table BBQ (kal bi)and pajun (korean green onion pan cake). Sides they serving are always super quality , I never had that much good sides ( banchan) in NZ . It was about quality. Neighborhood Pungro serving about 10 but quailty were do disappointing. Even Pungro charge for extra sides and expensive. And very unfriendly. But Daamso I always feel like coming mom's home because the female owner always smiles and generously willing to give more sides if you really like!
I would say this is the best Korean food I had in Auckland. They have so many kinds side dishes (7 of them), they all taste nice especially the marinated crab.
I ordered fish roe soup, will definitely come again to try the BBQ menu.
Perfect Korean BBQ cusine reasonable price and amount is just right. Daamso Sides are great. Free wifi, Good selection of Korean beers and soju. Not only BBQ but try Pork bone soup which is Daamso signature dish. Strongly recommend Daamso!
Authentic Korean BBQ with Korean Charcoal and great selection of Korean sides. I strongly recommend Daamso's Pork rib BBQ. Plus Soju is always must for any Korean dishes just like a nice NZ wine with western food is a best companion. Every dish price is very reasonable and the amount of the all dishes is just right. Very friendly owners, lots of smiles... Free Korean lollies or candies for kids, free Wifi!
Please find out Daamso menu for your take away ir dinning . Don't forget order Soj when you have a authentic Korean food especially BBQ. Menu https://drive.google.com/file/d/19UUR1M6jYZNbSP868s1PGm672HGh4WqT/view?usp=drivesdk

I’ve been here a few times. Food tasted good, really enjoyed the sizzling chicken and spicy squid. As well as the unlimited refills for the side dishes! (Love the kimchi). The price is pretty decent and good value for money. Overall it was a good experience and would like to come back to try kbbq.
Loved their side dishes and very generous amount of food. Very friendly service and definitely will go again. Seafood pan cake, sizzling squid were very yummy, the fish eggs soup was ok.
Went in with my partner for lunch today out of curiosity as it is a newly opened restaurant and it's pretty busy by the time we got there. Deciding from the menu is quite a difficult job as everything that's on the menu looks yum and price are reasonable too. We're served in time and food was good. Overall a great experience and will be back to try other dishes.
It's my second time here and overall i like this place. staff is very friendly and attentive. its the little things that counts. I ordered a soup and my child was sitting on the outside. staff made it playful moving my child chair back before placing my soup in front of me, then return my child to her place. not much waiter/ waitress think of that. i love how the soup has a nice base, where I can enjoy drinkimg the whole thing. side dishes are abit different each time but just a little sad I didn't get my favourite potato korean side dish here ( what u usually get at other korean resturants). will definately recommend here, somewhere local city is always too far away. yet to try their BBQ and Shared dishes!
We dropped by at DaAmso to have a lunch on a weekday (12 July). If you want good Korean food, the best guide is to see if there are lots of Korean customers around. This is exactly what happened at DaAmso. Five side dishes were offered & all were nice. I had a fish roe soup & my wife had beef bulgogi. Bulgogi was good, soup was a bit bland. On the whole, it was a good lunch. (Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3/5)
