I regularly visit Open Table when I want to study. Always warm and welcoming. Great coffee and the food is to die for. All very reasonably priced.
Been here with hub & bub for breakkie and we’d say this is truly a hidden gem! We were satisfied with the food and the service! Staff were friendly and accommodating. Love the presentation of the food! It tastes as good as it looks! 😍 keep it up!
Another busy cafe. But food got pretty presentation, service polite and friendly.drinks tasty nice.

Been here twice now, food is fresh, good portion size. Not too badly priced either compared to other cafes which serve the same thing. Recommend the iced mocha frappe also, tastes great!
Yum! Just had brunch here with a few friends, found this place on a Zomato search. Safe to say we were all satisfied. Had a set menu as well as specials so ALOT to choose from. Size of the meals we had were good for the price. Service was great. And we all went away feeling pretty satisfied! Would certainly go back again.
Open Table certainly is a hidden gem. Right in the residential hub of Ellerslie, it is one of my new fave spots. I have visited a handful of times (practically eating my way through the menu) and so far, I’m impressed. The price range couldn’t be more reasonable considering the size, with specials listed on their blackboard. The area is open with benches outside, a great stop for a summer brunch. The staff are always lovely, and the food is served in a timely manner. I normally order sweet, having tried the waffles, French toast and recently the vegan pancakes all being a hit - the corn fritters listed on the board are also a must try.
The most important test of any cafe... how is the coffee? And I am stoked to find that my local cafe makes great java. Food is really good as well, the poached eggs are always perfectly cooked with a runny yolk and the big breakfast lives up to its name. Really happy to have something so good within walking distance.
Was great to have a brunch here:) busy cafe. very kind staff and good service. I had egg Benedict with salmon. And calamari salad. Coffee was good too:) i would come back here again:)
Lovely cafe just down the road from Michaels reserve, always busy and popular amongst locals. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and there’s heaps of selections for everyone.
My new favourite neighbourhood café. Unbelievable food, efficient service and serving meals that are actually positive for your arteries. This is a must stop for people who are after a fresh, healthy and filling meal. I would consider this place to be a bit of a hidden gem. It's on the suburban road which does mean plenty of street parking.
I ordered the Salad De Jour which was marinated beef, crispy onion rings, grilled halloumi, and salads. It was spectacular in appearance and taste. The variety of textures from the salad made sure that your mouth was always refreshed with a new texture. You could sink your teeth into either firm small tomatoes, crisp onion rings or crunchy cucumber. A bowl full of excitement.
In terms of the appearance, the meal was dazzling. Full of vibrant lush colors, the meal will certainly excite the taste buds. If you’re wondering about the amount of beef, halloumi or onion rings, it was plentiful.
My partner had the spicy prawn tacos, Like the Salad De Jour, it was packed with fresh vegetables and a healthy amount of prawns. In terms of taste, I had a bite it was fine but lacking that kick I would expect.
Open Table is such a relaxing spot, there is a distinct character/ identity to the place which really allows the café to stand out. I just want to say a great job to the Open Table store owners and staff. I had the most wonderful experience dining in.
Showstopper: A café with identity and flair. The Salad De Jour an absolute delight.
Overall Grade: A+
Love this place so much. Felt so warm and welcome as soon as we walked in! Food and service were amazing also. Definitely will be back again soon!
What a great find in Ellerslie! Had the green/berry smoothies and Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. Ample amount of greens and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I love the smoothies, it was very refreshing and healthy. Will definitely visit again.
Nice lunch out with officemate on Thursday. Sit outside and enjoyed the sun. Service was great, ordered vegetarian quesadillas which was delicious. Highlight was the avo relish/dipping thing. Definitely would be back again, catered vegetarian and vegan quite well too!
I just walked in to grab a coffee, it is an interesting place with the open seating. The coffee is good and their chocolate mint slice looked extremely appealing.
This is a lovely cafe tucked away in the suburban streets of Ellerslie. They cater well to dietary needs and the food is delicious.
While the seating capacity may be on the smaller side, we were able to find an empty table on a Sunday. It's a modest cafe that serves healthy food and a good selection of cabinet items. I like that open table has a simple concept without trying too hard to impress. I love their coffee and will definitely be back to try other options.
This place gets a 5/5! Great service, quick the food was amazing and very well priced!
It's a little hidden gem amongst houses in ellerslie.
Highly recommend it !
Lovely staff, great food, super speedy, love how they're flexible with dietary needs.
Today I had the eggs been with salmon on G/F bread and it was soooo good. My partner got a bacon toasty made, and that was also really good. Coffee is quick and delicious.
Great little hidden cafe. They do pulled pork benny which is something new to me. The pulled pork benny was alright. I still prefer to classic bacon benny. The benny itself is good. The hollandaise was perfect. My bf got the breakfast burrito. It was really good as well.
Great little place that I didn't even know existed, friendly staff, had the apple latkes with a side of bacon, yum! Will definitely be visiting again soon
I had heard about this small local cafe & thought a weekend brunch was the perfect opportunity to try it. I must say though that I drove straight past initially! It's very much tucked away in a group of shops. It is very popular with locals of all ages though from what I saw - parents & kids with scooters stopping off for a fluffy & a flat white. That nice local feel.
Being brunch I decided to try the big breakfast & although I couldn't finish it, it was well worth ordering. Each element was individual but worked well with the other elements. Yum!
The eggs & toast came out on a separate plate - choice of poached, scrambled & white or brown bread.
On the other plate, balsamic mushrooms, roasted potatoes, sausages with herbs, smoky bacon, and the most delicious roasted tomatoes that were so sweet. I'm not normally a fan of tomatoes cooked like this but they were delish! Also silverbeet - again not normally a fan, but this was well cooked & delicious. A nice change to spinach. In the middle of the plate a spicy romesco sauce which added good flavour.
The latte was very strong, not bitter.
Service was good - friendly without being over the top.
A great wee spot - will be back next time I'm passing through.
The bbq pulled pork pretzel bun!!! Every time I go to Open Table I have to order the bbq pulled pork pretzel bun because it is amazing. A great combination of sweet bbq pork, salty pretzel bun and slightly spicy slaw. Yum! It does however mean I have not really tried anything else on the menu. I have sampled part of the big breakfast and it was really good too.
Super good and worth the wait. Bit spicy quesadilla for my taste but girlfriend loved it - im not a spice eater but the meal was delicious 😍
Japanese Salmon was something special.
Presentation is lovely, however all the pickle tasted the same, would be nice to have a slight different between each one
Another local haunt for me and grown up family. Great coffee - strong and well made. Great food options. Our dog is welcome as the place has a real cool, laid back vibe. I've seen this particular space transform from an electricians to a café over the 20 years I've lived in Ellerslie and I've got to say, it helps make Ellerslie cooler.
Not even my local Auckland mates knew about this place. But luckily found it through zomato and was delicious. We all got different meals (i had the smashed avo with balsamic mushies mmm) and thoroughly enjoyed each. Great coffees too. Highly rate!
This place is pretty much a hidden gem! It's only because of zomato that we have come across it. Located in Ellerslie on Michaels Ave you would either have to know of this place or have it recommended. It's a nice tidy cafe with really cute interior design - rough painted concrete walls and subtle colour pops of mint green, it has a nice vibe about it.
It was pretty busy when we went on a mid Sunday stroll, however we managed to secure a table and order our meals quickly. We ordered the Open table breakfast (vegetarian with halloumi) and the Baked feta with heirloom tomatoes, olives, rocket and bruschetta. Both meals were really well portioned and reasonably healthy. The big breakfast had a taster of everything and is sure to fill you up (adored the potatoes)! The Baked feta was full of flavour and a nice refreshing lunch option. The food was served promptly and the service was satisfying. The manager was really nice and suggested a few alternative options due to being vegetarian.
Although the price is slightly higher prices than some, I would surely go back to as the food was great!
If you blink you will miss this great little cafe hidden in the back streets of Ellerslie. Coffee great, food great and they knew exactly how to cater for my 2yr old. Service very friendly. Will definitely be visiting again.
This place is super cute. Nestled in a neighbourhood in Suburban Ellerslie it has benches outside where you can enjoy your coffee and catch some rays. Staff are attentive and always ready to help. I didn't try the food but I'll make sure I do next time! Coffee was superb.
Not a huge variety of choices on the menu...... but the fish cakes and chai smoothie are amazing! Love this local gem! Kids options are also good.
Food taste good but the coffee has weak taste. Mocha is just like normal hot chocolate. The smoothie is just like juice. And so many fly around. Good service but the staff looks unhappy at all.
Just discovered this little cafe hidden in the burbs. Rocked up on a sunny Sunday morning and scored an outside table. Ordered two lattes and the Japanese inspired salmon breakfast. The salmon piece was of high quality and simply delicious. It was served with sticky rice and a selection of pickles. Didn't feel that greasy feeling that sometimes eggs&bacon can give you. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal however, the lattes were expensive for their size. Also, the coffees were a bit weak and were lukewarm.
If they sort out their coffees, I'd be a regular!
Finally a good place fairly close to me casa 😄. Very cute little place. Fast service. Good coffee. We had Japanese style Salmon and mushroom polenta. The egg was hard boiled that's the only real complain. Else the salmon was really wonderful. The polenta was surprisingly filling, nice and buttery but not over powered by the cheesy taste. Gonna go back soon to try the other things on the menu.
Cute cafe in suburban Ellerslie! Has industrial charm and a menu that is a little different to most which ticks the boxes for me!
Good Kokako coffee, and mushrooms and polenta were amazing! Nice to also be able to sit in the sun... Definitely add to your list to visit if you are after something fresh!
Went here few times in the last couple of months. Fantastic service and I loved the vibe at this cafe. Great to sit out and have meeting or even to dine in some fresh stuff.
This little cafe was a pleasant surprise. My husband took me here for breakfast. I ordered smoked kahawai and he had the open breakfast. My dish was pretty delicious but i think it will have been better if the fish was warm. The fried kumara noodles were great with the fish. However i will have preferred a little more carb on the plate. Maybe a bit more kumara.
My husbands dish was nice too. He complimented the spinach. I ordered cheese quesadillas for my son and they were average and probably not worth the $7.
Overall pretty good but food did take a while to come out considering there was only one other table there.
Visited this unexpected little gem for lunch today. In the middle of a residential area, it would be easy to drive past and miss the wonderful food and great service it has to offer. A must try!
I finally got round to trying Open Table today and I love love loved it! My sister and I arrived around midday. Although it was fairly packed, the staff were happy to separate two tables in order to fit us in.
We were tended to and had our orders taken fairly quickly by super friendly staff. Considering the crowd our food came in good time.
Unfortunately my first choice had sold out (kawhai with kumara rosti) so I went for the seasonal fruit crumble instead. The crumble was piled high full of nuts and seeds, and hidden underneath was delicious poached peaches and feijoas. Hands down the best muesli-like breakfast I've ever had.
My sister opted for the mushrooms and truffled polenta. The mushrooms were full of flavour and the polenta was super creamy! The serving sizes were reasonable, so It's safe to say we were both full up and very happy.
The coffee was also good - and my sister's almond milk hot chocolate was incredible.
I'm already planning my return!
A little hidden gem in this suburb, love the rustic look of the cafe environment. I ordered for my Brunch a good ol Flat White and Japanese Salted Salmon, pickles vegetables, rice and poached egg dish, it was delicious and something different from the usual cafe style food. Friends had seen the pic of the food I took on my Facebook and had ask me where is this cafe... It's worth the drive there and explore this lil gem cafe!
A little casual hangout with delish food. Wide variety of choices, no particular ethnic style. Have tried the thai fish cakes and japanese style salmon and loved the flavours. Slightly pricey for the quantity of food you get on the plate but they use organic-looking ingredients and good presentation so better quality food than what you get from most of the franchise cafes. An excellent choice of cafe for small groups.
Blink and you'll miss this little unassuming café in Ellerslie. What a wonderful, community based café! Delicious food and coffee. I had the BBQ pulled pork in a pretzel bun, which was very well sized and tasty. But meal of the day goes to the Quesadilla - so tasty, cheesy, with lashings of sour cream and guac. If I find myself in the area again I'll be back.
It reminded me a lot of my local Belmont Little & Friday before it got really popular. A local cafe in the middle of a residential suburb. If you drive past, you wouldn’t think twice about it – there’s no prominent sign and it’s not accompanied by a line of shops either.
It was hard to narrow down to ordering one thing on the menu – everything seemed so appealing from baked ricotta to three cheese macaroni. It isn’t your typical eggs benny type brunch menu. We ordered three items on the menu with a promise to share (secretly as a backup plan if it didn’t hit the spot).
Luckily my fish cakes was my favourite. The fish cakes were so full of flavour and spices, and went well along with the different textures of sauteed silverbeet and fried potato – which was not chunky potato as expected but literally pieces of potato chips. Yum!
The salmon was too salty on its own and should have been eaten with the rice and pickled vegetables. A simple and clean dish that could be good if you didn’t want anything heavy for brunch. The skirt steak with tortillas were ahh-mazing and I like that you make your own tortillas so you can stuff as much or as little. I wish it came with more wraps though!
I’m so happy I found this gem of a cafe in Ellerslie. I was expecting good food but it was even better than what I had hoped for. Unlike other trendy cafes which are experimental with their flavour combinations, you’ll understand everything on the menu. Extra points for having Little Island ice cream to finish with. In love with the coconut flavour!
This place is an excellent little local cafe. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The food is interesting, well presented and the portions are fair sizes. The coffee is good and they make a great mocha (please teach the rest of Auckland!) I've now been here four times and have to say its my brunch pick of 2015...... so far. THE FOOD SCRIBBLER.
This place is fantastic...great selection of food and not your normal cafe menu...food is Devine. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere...would highly recommend to all locals or anyone passing by.

Thanks to Zomato and all the contributing foodies, I am discovering more and more eateries at places that I seldom come across. Open Table Cafe is one of them. A mere three minutes drive from work, this is my new hangout after a long morning of meetings.
Nicely tucked amongst the residential housing, this cafe was built with the help of donations from the Ellerslie locals through a Kickstarter campaign. A community-focused cafe where their meat is free range and milk and eggs are organic and their coffees are by Kokako.
In an area desperate for a good coffee shop, I welcome Open Table with open arms and have plans to try the whole menu, one item at a time!
I recently read (in Viva, I think) that Open Table has one of the most interesting menus in Auckland, and I must say I agree. I think it's the first time I've been to a cafe, where every single item appeals.
I ordered the apple latkes and a flat white. The coffee (Kokako) came out quickly an was perfect, immediately thinking it was amongst the best I've had. The latkes came out and looked beautiful.
They were perfectly cooked and the summer fruits were the perfect accompaniment - I had to stop myself licking the plate. I ended up ordering another flat white as the first was so good!
Looking forward to coming back, the menu is just too good!

Open Table is a community café occupying the site of where Paris Berlin Organic Bakery (now known as Bread & Butter Bakery) previously sat. Right away, Open Table has a wonderfully charming welcoming vibe. With the large roller door up, it feels like one large space. Look out for the Kokako sign in front.
Gen chose the apple latkes with apple salted caramel, roasted tamarillo & Greek yoghurt ($17.90) and I had the baked ricotta with seasonal poached fruit, candied pistachios and a cinnamon roll ($18.90). Both were sensational. I loved the presentation as well; the sculptural plating, and the edible flowers are a welcoming touch. The apple latkes were moist with caramelised edges, the caramel syrup had the perfect level of sweetness. I enjoyed my crumbly baked ricotta balanced with the slight crispness of the poached fruit. Check out the layers of cinnamon goodness in the roll.
The second visit, I had the sautéed mushrooms on truffled polenta ($19.50). I found the polenta on the salty side(admittedly, I am salt-adversed), but I loved the truffle aroma. BL had the spiced fish cakes served with tomato sauce, sautéed silverbeet, poached egg, hollandaise and potato shards ($20.50), which I greedily helped myself to.
Open Table is a real boon for the Ellerslie community as a place for neighbours to gather and relax. It is on a reasonably quiet road (read parking right in front!), there’s a YMCA, Michaels Ave Reserve and its playground just minutes walk down the road.
We decided to pop along to Open Table for an early lunch during Labour weekend. We were able to get a table without any trouble, although that isn't to say that it wasn't busy - there seemed to be a stream of people coming and going, either to sit down for a meal or to pick up a coffee while walking their dog.
The menu is refreshing - there are a lot of different items from typical cafe fare and I had a bit of trouble deciding between the baked ricotta and the apple latkes. In the end I ordered the ricotta and really enjoyed my meal. It was tasty, light and beautifully presented (my husband thought it looked like a dessert). I did spy some apple latkes going past and definitely want to try that some time in the future.
My husband ordered the spiced fish cakes which he also really enjoyed. The dish was full of flavour and texture.
The service and atmosphere was friendly - this is definitely a neighbourhood cafe and I'm sure the locals are proud of this new addition. This would also be a great place for families as there is a park with a great playground just a short walk down the road as well. A little bit on the pricey side, but I look forward to coming back soon and trying out more of the interesting things on their menu!
Cute small cafe, lovely service and staff - they are friendly and helpful (when you can’t decide what to eat) the food was nice too. Berry smoothie was a little bland but I didn’t mind. Very tidy and clean place
Can't fault the food, everything tasted good! This small roadside cafe is busy, but the food is served in a timely manner. Has lots of food for offer, with a range of cabinet choices. The only thing was the chalkboard menu with the menu items written sporadically around the board - cool to look at, but it's hard to read all the items!
cute local cafe! food gave a very homely feel— we got the french toast and eggs benedict and portions were quite filling:) coffee was okay! lovely service
A somewhat hole in the wall cafe. The FOH persons seems like the owner and he's so enthusiastic in helping customers. So far, one of the best steak and cheese pies I've tasted in NZ. Good price too.
The blueberry pancake though could be better. It was not light and fluffy, but a but heavy/dense and crumbles as you slice through it. But the whole plate was a hefty serving so quantity wise it was good.
Caramel slice was sublime.
If you're in the Michael's Ave area in Ellerslie this is a popular little cafe. Cornish pastie, carrot cake, mint slice all very tasty. The smoothie was icey though. ❄
Great hidden gem cafe located close to Michaels Reserve. Love it. Very delicious breakfast dishes. Family friendly. High chairs available. Highly recommend.
Delicious food. Consistently good. Friendly service. Value for money. Generous portions. Love the hollandaise sauce. Great coffee. Our family favourite!
small cafe down a urban street away from the hussell prefect for those not wanting to be near the busy city centre. i loved it. service was friendly and welcoming. Our breakfasts were all but delicious. would definitely visit again if ever in this area.
Me and my partner visited this cafè on Saturday morning and it was amazing! The customer service was great and the food + coffees were amazing quality and very yummy! Can't wait to come back here, thanks for your great service :)
Absolutely delicious coffee and waffles!!!!!! Staff were all amazingly kind and helpful. Been in Auckland for three days and super gutted that we found this hidden gem on our way out!
This has been our go-to for coffee for almost four years and we are sad to be moving away. Excellent coffee, including when alternative milks are used. The food (both kitchen and cabinet) has also served us well when we have needed a bite to eat too.
Finally my dream became true! Last time we came here it was closed, coupled my friends do go to Open Table as their favorite cafe. I just wanna say COFFEE IS UNBELIEVABLE☕️☕️. It just made my weekend 🌈Staffs were so nice and friendly. we ordered salmon egg bene & big break fast. The portion was quite satisfied. Personally preferred egg Benedict because of the best match of fresh salmon and special hollandaise sauce. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Looking forward of coming again!
Nice little spot and decently priced as well. Amazing selection of cabinet food too.
Epic waffles and equally as epic coffee. I'm glad we took the time to find this place. Great spot in the sun to enjoy a delicious breakfast.
A quaint little hide away at 66 Michaels Ave, Ellerslie. Indoor & Outdoor dining, under cover during this fickle Auckland weather. Sit in for two. Had Earl Grey tea with Chicken/ Vege Filo & Sweet Chili sauce, Ham/Cheese croissant & Gluten free Lemon Cake(delishimo).Happy Cooks, make Happy food & get Happy Customers😉
Stopped for brunch and seems the café has new owners. Still has excellent choice of meals. I had the omelette and it was delicious. Coffee also very nice. Good indoor outdoor choice of tables and was a pleasant meal with friendly staff.
Fast service even when super busy, good food and coffee, good prices - great little local cafe. Great for Saturday morning Football coffee :)
A bit different to what it used to be but the vegan pancakes were fabulous. Coconut flat white perfect. Great customer service. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Even has toddlers table and a dog friendly spot.
