Definitely worth the hype! Yep, this place is the real deal and the pies are epic. We had the steak and cheese (the best we tried all trip!) and the pork belly and apple pie was also really good. It had a piece of crackling on top of the pie - a real treat - and tasted like a roast dinner in a pie! Kids loved their blueberry muffin, super fresh and fluffy. Coffee was just ok but you come for the pies! Delish!
Oh the Fairlie Bakery!!! What a find. We discovered it on a holiday to the South Island and have seriously thought about going back from Taranaki just to visit the bakery, and have discussed as a family if we could get something couriered up for a birthday. Lol. The pies were so much better than anything I've had in years - amazing crispy light pastry and real meat and gravy not the shredded gloop that is the standard fare in N.I. and the cream bun was just like I remember as a child in the 70's and haven't had since - a texture quite unlike the bread buns that are filled with cream these days. Keep up the amazing work guys - a real gem. Come and open another shop in Taranaki please!!!!
The food is to die for, I couldn't decide as it all looked so scrumptious.
I live in Australia so I cant see myself going back there any time soon, which is such a shame :( I would love to experience this bakery again, absolutely 5 stars hands down
The best bakery in Canterbury hands down. Adventurous delicious pies Desserts to die for Real cream and lots of it The cheese cake is exceptional but all the desserts are worth a try I now go out of my way to visit Fairlie. 5 stars hands down
We ordered Pork belly, bacon & salmon, ultimate steak pies and seafood chowder. Long Q but move fast. Enjoyed all the food we ordered, yummy.
Looks like this is one of my favourite pie shops in New Zealand, one more being in Wanaka.
I've ordered 3 different pies just to try, all of which had generous fillings in it.
85% filling
15% pastry
Pastry was tasty and crispy, which complemented the fillings well
My highlight would be the lamb with minted peas. Lamb being rich in flavour paired with the peas to lighten the flavour.
Salmon and bacon was okay. Salmon was fresh and bacon gave the pie a savoury taste.
Lastly roasted pork with apple sauce was good. The sweetness from the sauce went well with the saltiness from the pork. Pork was tender and tasted delicious.
Pies are unique here, premium prices but if you choose wisely you'll get premium quality pie. The Bacon and Salmon was perfect with the classic fish pie sauce at the bottom of an actual Salmon fillet (somewhat afraid it would just be a Creamy mush of salmon). The ultimate steak wasn't too shabby, although lacked the gravy that needs to support the packed meat for the pie to stand out. The Apple Pork was packed! But was a bit peppery for a pork type of flavour pallette. All in all, a good stop over for lunch on the way back home. The place service was nice and fast and friendly. A very popular place amongst locals and tourists. Definitely worth the stop.
Fantastic pies abit on the pricier side of an average pie but you can taste the quality ingredients used.
Tried the pork belly with apple sauce, it literally tasted as what was on the menu, steak and cheese was a good choice as well.
Their food are so good! Their famous pie is pork belly, but I highly recommend vegan pie as well, the filling is lentils, it taste so good!! You must give it a try! Other than pie, their pastry also taste perfect, their almond croissant is my top one!!! I will stop everytime for purchase when i pass by.

๐ฎ Review ๐ฎ The pie had a crispy layer of pork skin on top! While New Zealand pork often has a distinct taste, it wasnโt noticeable here. Combined with its flavorful filling, the pork, seasoned with black pepper, was simple yet quite memorable.

I believe anyone in New Zealand has heard of this pie shop! Today, I finally got to visit. I originally wanted to order the Salmon pie, highly recommended by a friend, but was told it would take an additional 20-30 minutes, so I opted for the Steak pie recommended by the staff. It was just alright ๐คฃ. Luckily, my accommodation is very close, so I can try again next time.

Stunning pies! Their selection is unusual and they are all incredibly tasty! The pork belly is amazing, as is the venison and Sausage rolls and sweets were great too. Particularly the custard slice. And coffees were decent and huge too! Highly recommended!
Not even joking when I say it's the best pie shop I've been to. The three pies I recommend are: pork belly and apple sauce, butter chicken and the vegan lentil are so delicious and flavourful. So good we came twice.
Minced and minced cheese are great pies, coffee was good as well. Not a fan of the pork belly pie, just my personal taste preference. Queue can grow long but the service is fast.
You know itโs gotta be a good place when thereโs a line out the door! Upon a recommendation, we stopped and had lunch, and it was totally worth it. We had a pie each, wit a cronut to split for dessert. And yes, itโs perfectly acceptable to have dessert after lunch mid-week!
