Nice buzz in this place, very busy for a reason-awesome freshly baked French pastries and really good coffee. Highly recommend it! Little courtyard is good if you come with kids or dogs:)

Not s bad place for a coffee and a sweet snack. Quite busy and noisy and a smile from the staff wouldn't hurt! I really like my food served with friendliest and this place is a let down in that aspect.

A good "French" style baker - recommended.

Although the French baker has long since departed for havelock north, Rusty maintains a pretty good semblance of what this little cafe bakery used to be. Some French specialties don't appear anymore but the breads are still good and the pastries better than anything available locally.

The space is pleasant, restful, clean, comfortable and perfect for reading the paper. Sitting outside on the street is also good and very dog friendly.

The menu is more constrained and less robust than that at the more grungy cahoots down the road. Pretty basic blackboard menu but the main draw is the baking. Coffee can be variable but is usually ok depending upon who made it.

My only gripe is their not taking credit cards but that seems to happen at a few places.

The French Baker (present or otherwise) has been an important part of greytown's food scene for some years and hopefully will continue to do so.

Had a really pleasant lunch here this afternoon. Grey towns cafe's are limited, so obviously not a huge range and options for a city slicker like me.

These guys are great, they don't buy into the stigma that everything needs to be overpriced to make money. They do the basics really well, my tuna and red onion bun was really enjoyable and they do a really good coffee as well.

This place could be rated higher, just the ambience and general feel of the place is catering to the set demographic out here. (Old lol).

Would recommend for a coffee pit stop :).

Have been to the French Baker several times per Zomato days and always enjoyed the visits.  This time was no exception.

We didn't dine in but took away croissant and pain au chocolat to consume in front of the fire at home.  We also grabbed a couple of coffees.

Nothing beats a "real" croissant - buttery, flaky and delicious and the specimens here were just that.  Coffee was hot and strong too.

These guys are not only known for their great pastries, something we didn't try, but the coffee was why we were here. It's a relaxed little set-up with equally-relaxed service and, more importantly, a macchiato that bitch-slapped me with its strength and perfection.

I always look forward to stopping at The French Baker on trips to the Wairarapa - there's so many delicious pastries and savouries. It has great take away coffee too.
It's pretty hard to find a bakery as good as this.

I have been stopping at the French Baker for all my coffees recently and I always leave in such a good mood. Their happiness is contagious! Today, I placed a huge take away coffee order, at a very busy time (So sorry team!!) but I just wanted to say I was really pleased to be greeted with nothing but smiles & kindness; even amongst the crazy busy time. The FOH staff took the time to find an easier way for me to carry the 12 coffees to my car. The coffee was also made SO quick (As always). These guys are amazing!!

Best coffee in town. Pastries light and fresh fruits. Bread reminds me of Paris. Salmon on bagel was enough for two. Fast service.

Beautiful fresh baking, friendly service and great coffee. This cafe has a great vibe, choose a small table for intimate conversations while you read the paper or share a larger table and make new friends. A favourite.

Great selection and pastries and breads which really well made. I am glad I don't live too close as I don't think I could resist if they were just down the road! Their coffee is always made well which is a must. Friendly staff.

The best tomato soup I have ever had. Not too creamy, not too tomatoey, just right. Decent flavourful coffee and amazing chicken, brie and cranberry croissant.
