I love Gengy's! Especially the pancakes for dessert. Watching them make your food is always fun. I just don't quite like knowing that the food is all cooked on the same plate but i guess that's the fun of it! The chefs are so talented and lovely!
Really enjoy coming to this place, great food and customer service every time. The thing that will keep bringing me back is the experience, if you’ve been to gengys, you’ll know!
Have always enjoyed my meals here. Nice food cooked after you select what you want. Go back as often as you like to get more. So different thing's can be tried.
Desserts are pancakes you can use whatever sauce you want on them which is great. There's also fruit to have in or on pancakes now as well.
Really enjoyable and fun place to visit. Had meal on 16 May really nice, good selection of food and seafood, pancakes were beautiful and light. It seems the new circular hot plate makes things quicker to have meal cooked too.
Literally this place is the first thing we do every time we are in Hamilton. The staff are friendly, food is good, a lot of fun. Nice cocktail menu to boot.
Absolutely delicious every time I go here. The Mongolian food is so heart warming to the body and you get your money’s worth. I would suggest that these guys can maybe edit the decor and atmosphere with some music too.

Just as Anji mentioned before, not many choices there, even the sauces are much more than the dishes oh my....but still recommend it because I think the dishes are basically enough, they have even got pancake and ice cream which makes you feel satisfied as deserts are so nice. Most importantly, really enjoy the experience in which you can pick up the materials u like, and then just wait for the creative dish which can be totally different from the last one u have made. And, enjoy watching nice guys cooking around the stone stove, which was warm and enjoyable
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G is all I can say. Talk about value for money! Not to mention the variety is absolutely brilliant. The staff are very pleasant, you're most definitely well looked after. It is an experience and a half, I highly recommend going with a big group of people. I had a wonderful evening and went home with a more than full belly! A++
This being my first time at Gengy's, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience!
I wasn't expecting that much considering the reviews that seemed bad but I don't think it's as bad as people make it sound to be.
We were a big group and it was just a spot on place to be!
I enjoyed the DIY nachos and the fries were perfectly crisp!
However their Potato, Mushroom and Bacon soup tasted as if msg and flavoring powder were the only ingredients! Definitely not a nice soup..
I enjoyed their huge selection of meat, Veges, sauces and spices. It was beyond expectations!
I don't think it deserves the rating it has, definitely better!
As a drink I ordered the Spider which is a mix of Rasberry, cola and ice cream, was an interesting experience but overall, I loved my visit!
To start with,I was surprised when I was told that I had to choose the ingredients and how much of each I wanted,and the chef would just cook it for me . Well if I wanted to do that, i could have stayed home. Since I am not frequent in the kitchen, I wasn't sure how much spice was enough and combination of which would give a good taste. Ended up having a bland plate do of noodles. I couldn't see any special sauces or spices other than the usual chillis and soys.. Not very authentic Mongolian I should say...Disappointed...But in the expensive too...
Everything was good. Good for children. Various of food. May be not enough deserts, but it depend on your aim: if you want meat or seafood, there are a lot of it. Discount for students and on weekdays))). Thank you.
I love the concept of watching your food being cooked while you wait.and it doesn't take long at all.
You can make your own desired meal,and choose whatever you feel like at the time.
what I can say I'm not too happy about is the fact the chefs are all slapping their spatulas around so fast that the food cross contaminates.
if I wanted seafood in my meal I would have got it for myself.
when I ring to book the person who takes my booking is usually hard to understand and I end up spending more than I would like on a phone call trying to spell my name and get them to understand me.
I do agree with an earlier comment, the bowls have cracks and I work in the food industry so know cracks breed bacteria so I steer clear of any cracked bowls.
All in all definitely my favourite place to dine in Hamilton due to the price and the convenience of making what you're feeling like at the time.and I take great delight in taking my friends and family there for the novelty experience.
Great restaurant which allows you to pick your own veges, meats, oils and spices before watching it be cooked on a flat top grill. Fantastic experience!!
Service was great and Pat on the grill was good value! Awesome interactions with kids and adults alike which topped the experience off!!

The young Maori chef is awesome. He was very welcoming as we passed by his station whilst heading to our table. The male staff are very efficient at clearing your tables and asking if everything is ok. I love the fact that you can pick the ingredients you want & to watch it being cooked. The children love this place.
Absolute favorite spot for special occasions. Have come here everyday on my birthday for the past 7 years! Interior design could do with some work, but the food is delicious.

Went along to celebrate a birthday variety of foods, they may need to place the food names more to the front,we had to lean down to read. Not a great selection of seafood, enjoyed my plate. one of the chefs made our day, very friendly and mindful that one of our members was vegan so he cooked her meal in a wok away from any meats 👍He also posed for a pic knowing I was going to put it on google maps. To end our meal we ordered coffees long wait (busy) only to receive all 4 orders were warm.😑
Very much a do it yourself meal. Staff had a good process to get food to the right people. They also cleared away used dishes regularly. Food quality was food and they handled a large group of us easily.
My first time eating at Gengys was in Henderson branch when I was still living in Auckland. Second time is here in Hamilton branch. Excellent service and foods are awesome. Lots of varieties of seafoods considering that I am a pescatarian. Still worth my pay. I also love the dessert as well and their pancakes. I just hoped that there will be more choices for their desserts. The only down side was when I get my first round of my cooked seafoods, there was a single strand of hair on it. Also, their surcharge is surprisingly big, which is 15%! Probably due to public holiday. Other than that, I enjoyed my buffet dinner overall and I commend the staff for being friendly. Will definitely come back there someday.

Food was good, sure kept the men pretty happy anyway lol.. Loses stars for the state of the bathroom, it looked like the toilet was the only thing in the room that ever gets cleaned the bin in there was practically black with dust and grime 😬 the cooks were lovely and friendly though

I have dined here many times, mainly for kid's birthdays because my nephews and nieces always wants to come here for there birthday. Each time I have been here, gengy's never disapoint. Ice cream and pancakes are a hit with the kids.

Good price for what you get, great for large groups.
Buffet consists of raw vegetables, raw meats, oils and sauces, seasonings and garnishes. You fill your bowls with what you like and take it up to the guys around the giant round hot plate. They tell you your number, cook it up and bon apatite. 😁😋
For dessert 🍨, pancakes, ice cream, whipped cream, sauces, fruit salad 😋🤤 yummy.
Staff are friendly and helpful. 😊
Eat for $1 on your bday (or 7days before/after) with 3 full paying adults.
Go maybe twice a year.
Suggestions, don't fill up on fizzy or drinks, go on an empty stomach, pace yourself and stay away from the chips, rice and bread rolls.lol.

No female staff on duty to remedy a problem in the women's when my granddaughter was sick and couldn't make it to the toilet.
