Food is incredibly tasty and despite always being busy staff are always friendly and wait time is never usually very long.
Excellent value for money and portion sizes are bigger than your typical fish and chip shop.

Amazing fish and chips, probably the best in the Waikato. Crispy batter with no oily aftertaste, can really recommend the large snapper - $10 but huge chunk of fish that feeds two. Cheese and onion fritter was delicious. Not open on Mondays - doesn’t say online but hours are on the door.
The BEST fish burger! The fish is fresh and flaky, not rubbery or with a "frozen" feel and texture.
The staff are happy to see you and the shop is clean.
There is a bit of a wait if you don't phone your order through first, but it's well worth the wait.
Will definitely be back another day for sure!
Amazing fish and chips and burgers, especially the chips. Such lovely service, he always treats you like your the first and only customer even though it has been flat out and nearly an hour wait. Only con being if I haven't thought to ring in early enough on a fri/sat night it's an easy hr wait. Defently worth the wait if you have thought ahead.
Super fresh fish! This stuff is much much better than your average Chinese takeways! A bit of a long wait, but worth it! Will be back for more!

Probably one of the best fish and chip stores in Hamilton. The fish we ordered was fresh and cooked perfect, chips were yummy too! We were served by honest friendly people. The waiting time was a little bit long but worth the wait. I would recommend this place to everyone looking for a fish and chip shop in Hamilton.
Our fave fish n chips since we move to hamilton! Great owner.. Always busy but always fast too.. We always get their chocolate doughnut also with their fish and chips absolutely
The only thing wrong with this place, is its too far away from our place - seriously, stop here for a feed - don't go past the spring rolls, elephant fish and donuts - you won't be disappointed that you ate too much - super nice people, super yummy food - fresh fish, perfect batter and generous portions of chunky chips - all round great kai experience - thank you!!!
Great place..awesome burger the works burger..blew my mind..fish fresh and flaky..chips thick,crisp out soft middle..what can i say..great price,great service..double meat burger friend ordered was abit dry..but if you added cheese etc..would be fine. Will go again definitely.
Best fish & chips in the Waikato. I travel fom Gordonton once a week for a bloody good feed. Thanks heaps. It definite pays to ring phone order in before turning up. Good news travels far and wide.

1st time here ordered the $20 fish family pack very impressed 4 fish 2 hotdogs 2 crab sticks 2 potato fritters and 2 scoops of chips very yummy will definitely be back.

Slightly expensive, but the chips are DELICIOUS.
Ordered ahead for a big group and asked that everything be ready at 7.15. Got there and everything was all ready to go. Usual excellent friendly service and food was great as always! I love this place and it's well worth the drive from our home to get good fish n chips every time. Thanks guys!
We'd flown in from overseas yesterday and were craving some proper kiwi fish and chips. After seeing the recommendations on here, we thought we'd try it out. Excellent choice!
The portions were massive - a piece of fish was more like 3 pieces (he kindly gave us the last of his snapper) and a scoop of chips comfortably feeds 2. We also loaded up on mussels and scallops ... Worth flying 10,000 miles for!
Didn't catch the owners name, but the sort of friendly kiwi attitude that makes you a little homesick!
Best fish and chips I've tasted in NZ. The fish (Hoki) was enormous, with superb batter and very fresh), and the chips were scrumptious! Always busy but well worth the wait. The shop is very clean and the owners very friendly.
This place does the best chips in Hamilton, thick and crispy. Their frozen fish is average but they do have fresh fish available which is fantastic, not the best, but one of the best in Hamilton. This is our number one place to go to (tied with Seafood Grotto in Frankton which has better fresh fish but the chips aren't as good as Oxford)
This is the best Fish n Chip shop I have ever had we are only new to the area so went looking for a a nice kai & found this place it is awesome the chips are big & taste the fish is beautifully cooked & everything else is just wonderful. A lovely clean shop & the owners are beautiful, friendly & very efficient people. I have recommended this place to all my whanau & anyone who wants a decent kai.

I refuse to eat from any others now lol my fave is the Cheese & Onion pattie..YUM!! Nice clean shop, with friendly staff also quite busy most nights so i now do phone orders ;)
Clean shop, even the pumping vats looked clean. Busy, even for a Wednesday night, so note to self, don't go on Friday night, I imagine it's bedlam. The chips are cooked from frozen so they don't go soggy and the burger I had was extremely filling and had beetroot in it, yes, it's really sad that hardly anyone puts it in burgers any more, so if you don't like it, you can ask for it to be left out, but I love it. Yummy meat patty. Excellent, don't know how I didn't know of it before. Found it on this site.
Easily the best Fish N Chip shop we've ever been to. Burgers amazing! Fish so fresh and not greasy! Chips perfectly cooked! And the Cheese and Onion Homemade Pattie.... wow!! The owner was not wrong when he said it was their most popular pattie... honestly try it you will not be disappointed.
Only reason we tried Oxford was because of the reviews on here and our expectations were completely exceeded!!
This has to be the best Fish N Chip shop in Hamilton indeed. I stumbled on this shop while having a day off work and had previously been going to another Fish N Chip shop for over 2 years but as soon as i had my first feed there in the first week they had opened I have been back each week for fantastic Fish N Chips. Paul and Margaret are great people and being so busy they always manage to serve up the best food and maintain a very happy environment, sometimes it is so busy you see people waiting in their cars but believe me it is the best Fish N Chip shop that i have ever been to, please try the donuts from Christchurch and i ask for crispy chips and they cook them a bit longer for me too! Bring on to-nights dinner. Off to Takeaways On Oxford as they are always consistent and yummy!!!!!
What a great place for fish and chips!!Saw the reviews on here while passing through so gave it a try...what great friendly service. Lovely fish and chips and went the extra mile by putting it in cardboard containers so we could eat and drive....even gave the visiting Australian in the party a few juicy Bluff oysters to try. Fantastic feed with good old fashioned friendly service, will definitely be back. Cheers!
The owners are so friendly and the food is just amazing! One of our staff recommend we try Takeaways on Oxford, we did and we have never looked back. The burgers are yummy chips so good and the fish batter is amazing! This really is the best fish and chip shop in Hamilton so glad it was recommended to us :)

By far the best fish and chip shop in Hamilton. Paul and his wife are friendly and really know what they're doing. The sea food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. The steak sandwich is a winner, and the mussels with lemon are to die for. I highly recommend this place if your sick of getting soggy chips from people who don't really care about what they serve.
OMG why did we not know about this fish and chip shop till now! We had 4 fish, hotdog, hamburger, chips and 2 chocolate donuts... And a crumb was not left over. They were cooked to perfection, not greasy and not over salted and the service was very friendly. Yay for a decent fish and chip shop in Hamilton where they know how to cook the Kiwi tradition. Yum yum yum, thanks takeaways on Oxford we will be back!!!
Bought 2 pieces hoki and Chips for two ,fish was fresh and cooked to perfection as well as the chips.
We came from Auckland to Hamilton to try this place, and I can say its pretty good... The hot dogs, chips and oysters were really some of the best but he fish ( snapper & sole) didn't taste fresh and was a little dry, however I would def eat here again nice clean shop and good service even when busy
Yummy crispy thick-cut chips, and the biggest burger I've ever seen in my life. Excellent service from the true-blue kiwi owners. We ordered a piece of fish, we got three. Highly recommended to all. Going there for my tea now!

This place is by far the best place iv been to in Hamilton. Great understandable service as soon as you walk into the door. I ordered 1 piece of gurnard and 1/2 scoop of chips. The wait wasn't too long and they were clearly busy. They called out my order and the man said it was my lucky day. The place was the tidiest fish n chip place iv ever been to. They had given me great crispy chips and two awesomely cooked gurnard. It was my lucky day.
New owners have re started this shop. This is what I would call good old fashioned kiwi husband / wife service and the best burgers in Hamilton.
Now to the fish and chips, the batter is light and very crispy and the fish is cooked from fresh. The chips are cut thick and you can actually taste the potato.
Everything that is said in the above description is true. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

My family really enjoyed the chips as they are crunchy. They use quality fat to cook. The Lemon fish is my two kids favorite and it is fresh as all there fish is. The price is standard. There service is good and friendly. All the staff working hard and trying to cook the best quality food. They use the light batter to cook so I like the taste. The shop is nice and clean. If you want good quality food go there.

Used to be the best family owned fish and chip shop in the area but had a change of owners about a year ago and while the food is still better than the average fish and chip shop the atmosphere is different and there is a grumpy and at times rather unwelcoming lady there that sours the experience. Still worth going for the food but order ahead of time to avoid sitting and seeing the angry Asian lady grumpy at work lol. I do go back but try others as well so no longer my go to fish and chip shop in Hamilton
The food at Oxford Takeaways is consistently fresh & delicious .The batter they use is very light so the flavour of the food stands out. They ask you once how you like your eggs - hard or runny, how you like your toasted sandwiches - soft or crunchy and then every time you go there you get perfectly cooked and presented food. They even put beetroot in the burgers! The owner is very pleasant and hard working and all the staff are really friendly. Undoubtedly the best takeaways in Hamilton

Best fish & chips in Hamilton, we drive across town to get them. Our recent meal we had the most yummy tharaki, super fresh and fresh scallops. Always yummy chips too. Recommend 😊
