What a treat ! PJ’s Pies is a must do when in Hanmer Springs. Yes there’s pools but it’s so much more than that ! So follow your nose to find the best pie spot this side of the Alps. Such an incredible range including savoury sized mince and cheese - perfect for that second breakfast ! The two ladies are lovely, always up for a yarn and the baked goods aren’t overpriced either ! I went with a Butter Chicken and it was out the gate good. I will be back !

I've been obsessed with butter chicken pies since a lovely South African couple I met on tour told me about them. So naturally that's the one I got from PJ's. And it was the best one I had! The crust was buttery and flaky. The chicken was juicy. And the curry sauce had depth and was so flavorful. The toasted cumin seeds on top was a nice touch. It was so filling, too! I wish I had the opportunity to try more pies because the butter chicken one exceeded my expectations. According to their website, they use the water from the alpine spring in Hanmer Springs. That's probably why their pies are so good! Because PJ's operates out of a small building (I think they renovated a park ranger station), there's only outdoor seating which consists of bench tables. Since it's cabinet food, service is quick. And the prices are very reasonable. My butter chicken pie was around $8-$9nzd. With the exchange rate, it was a little less than $5usd. I've only been here once, but I highly recommend getting a pie here even if you've eaten elsewhere. You won't regret it!

Yeah well PJ’s Pies are up there with the best. Great casing with a variety of fillings to support and a price point which delivers. PJ’s Pies choices today where as ranked 1.Pork and Apple sauce 2. Jackfruit with BBQ sauce 3. Angus Steak and Cheese 4. Version and Merlot to finish. Highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious pies. Mince and cheese 10/10. I even bought 4 to take home to the family to try up north. Also, the lovely staff member did me a huge favor when I discovered there were no taxis in town. Definitely left a good vibe for the whole town . I'll be back for pies and to spend more money in the town. Thanks again, you have no idea how much I appreciate your help. You're a very kind human ❤️

Fantastic and flavoursome well balance plain mince pie. Pastry was lovely with a nice flakey top and the mince has an even balance of onion and herbs. Served at just the right temperature for a take away. Would highly recommend.

Spend 2 weeks travelling around the south island, and had several pepper steak pies during that time. For me PJ pies took top place. Lots of tasty steak and the right amount of pepper. Highly recommend.

All the different varieties of pies under one roof. We stopped by to have pies and we all had different ones and had a bit of each other’s, they were delicious. Even the vegetarian options were nice. Well worth a stop while in Hamner Springs.

The sausage roll is one of the best in New Zealand (Top 10 in 2020). The venison pie, steak and cheese, steak and mushroom all tasted yummy. The pastry was perfect and yummy fillings. You can grab and go or eat the pie on available table onsite.

Lol...... Funny that my name initials are the same as the name of this pie store. We bumped into this pie place after competing in the Hanmer 10KM Marathon. This pie place is a must-stop. The pies are mouthwatering and delicious, full of fillings, and the pastry is perfectly baked. It is not flaky or overly cooked. And coupled with the lady behind the counter's friendly and welcoming service. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely go back to it.

We only paid cash due to the power outage, but with the boss's consideration, the kids enjoyed the pie and dessert I'll make sure to go and pay again. Pj pie that I can't forget because it's delicious and I can't forget it anymore. Always be happy!

Literally the best pies I've ever had anywhere. Pork belly & apple is my personal favourite, but the beef brisket has to be a VERY close second.

Some of the best pies ever. Owner dreams up different fillings as well as old favourites. Have had 4 different pies and all a pleasure to devour. Definitely worth a visit if close to Hanmer😄
