Had a lovely dinner here tonight. Vegetarian player for entree and aloo Gobi for the main. Also had an absolutely amaaaazing garlic naan. Massive portions, was full from just the entree to be honest. Awesome flavorful stuff. The also do a $10 butter chicken takeaway special so I might try that one day.
This place literally never disappoints! Can not recommend this place highly enough! Their curries are to die for 🤤💕

Forgot to take a picture, as I just had it for takeaway. So I got the Butter Chicken Combo, with rice and naan bread. The Chicken tasted really good and the naan was freshly made perfectly crisp and soft at the same time.
You guys have really good food and lovely staff to assist, we had butter chicken and Naan, it so tasty that we couldnt stop licking our fingers. Good foos options and good one chef, Kuddos to team The Indian Kitchen 😁

Butter chicken and naan bread for $8.99... can’t go wrong!! I thought for the price it would be average but it’s actually really good. One of the best butter chickens I’ve had.
Delicious curries, generous portions and incredible deals; this place is my go to curry spot.
Having tried a couple of their curries, I must say that so far, none of them disappoints. My favorite so far is their korma curry; it is almost addicting. Also their naans are amazing.
Service is fairly quick, around 10 minute wait. Staff are pretty chill.
I highly recommend this place if you crave some butter chicken (the sweet kind).
Really friendly service & usually really busy - not a huge restaurant so can pay to plan ahead.
Jalfrazee & Jeera Aloo weren’t the best we’ve had, but they were really tasty. Naan was a little thinner than some, but fresh & tasty again. Drinks list is small but they have most options covered.
Their specials are good value. A good wee local so well worth checking out

The Indian Kitchen never disappoints! Their vegetarian options are well suited to most of the options so I don’t feel as though I’m missing out on anything. Very reasonably priced!
This is the BEST Indian place I have ever had the pleasure of trying. I live in the city but every time I'm in the Howick area I greatly look forward to picking up a curry from The Indian Kitchen.
The curries are affordable, not too oily and packed with flavour. They have many vegan curry options (including the best aloo matar on the planet) and the papadums here are next level.
New owners since December last year that I didnt know about. Food was so delish! Will definitely go back! Ordered butter chicken it is so yummy!

I have been to the Indian Kitchen on several occasions. I first began trying their food as a takeaway as they do awesome deals on takeaway curries - I later learnt that they also do fantastic deals for dining in too!
They have recently refurbished their restaurant and even though small, the atmosphere when dining in never feels uncomfortable or awkward. We were served by a couple of wait staff when we recently visited the restaurant for me to enjoy their dining in option and they were amazing! Service was fast and so friendly, very attentive and interested to hear about whether we were enjoying our meals or had any problems.
Had a curry that was a little hotter than I'd hoped but this could be due to my mistake in ordering or just a small problem that could be caused by different chefs adding different ratios of spice.
All in all, definitely my favourite local Indian restaurant and takeaway. Generous portions and fantastic prices - oh and I will recommend the tikka masala which has a beautiful taste!
Amaaazing curry. Lovely staff and can't go wrong with their deals. Lamb sagwala and tikka masala are our go to's but never been disappointed

The food here is so good. 100% recommend this place. This has been my go-to indian food place for the last 5 years. However, it is not the biggest place, wouldnt really have a big family dinner here. It's quite small and the decor is alright.
Value: They usually always have deals, for takeaway or dine in too. The portions are also very decent and worth the money.
Food: the food is super tasty. And the naan is almost always cooked to perfection! They also are not stingy with their rice (saves having to cook extra at home if you takeaway).

My mother, sister and I ate at the Indian Kitchen last night and it was wonderful! I am vegan, mum is vegetarian and my sister is an omnivore and we were all catered for. There were many things on the menu that could be made vegan and their Roti is vegan too and delicious. I ended up having a Vegetable Rogan Josh which was divine. As a starter I had vegetable pakora which was so light and un-greasy that I even though it was a HUGE serving, I could have eaten another serving all over again. The service there was attentive without being overbearing and the small atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy on a cold winter night. We will definitely be eating there again soon – can’t wait to take my husband and children to try it. Admittedly I did need to be rolled out of there after such an awesomely filling meal but it was well worth it! Highly recommended.

For $10 the curry you get tastes really good and is extremely filling. I've had curry from other places and this currently beats them all. I would suggest for that people try butter chicken, korma and madras because they are made sooo good here. Probably one of my fav places to eat atm.
Indian Kitchen would definately be a top contender for the best Indian cuisine in East Auckland. Although the retaurant lacks in ambience, the food is great and is awesome value for money (with the weekly specials). I've ordered from here on multiple occasions and everytime they are always busy (with takeaways) - which just goes to show how good the place is. With this in mind it would pay to order over the phone cause waiting times can be an excess of 20-30min+
My go to is typically their Butter Chicken, Samosas and Naans. I don't know what it is, but they do it right! Recently, I opted for a mild Beef Korma and it came out spicy which was a let down, but that was only 1 of very few bad experiences with The Indian Kitchen.
If you're ever in the mood for Indian that is both yummy and value for money - I'd highly recommend The Indian Kitchen.
This is probably the best Indian place I've tried in east Auckland so far, but it's definitely not comparable to other places like Paradise in Sandringham. The chicken mudras I ordered was nicely flavoured but the chicken was a little over cooked which is a bit of a disappointment. However in terms of customer service, price and waiting time it was excellent - I would be happy to go back to The Indian Kitchen if I was in the area and looking for Indian food.
Good food that is great value for $, plus the staff are always very friendly. We always get takeaway as the dining area needs a makeover if you wanted to dine in.

Yep I agree with the other reviews here, definitely a hidden gem as you would probably never guess the food would taste this good by just looking into the restaurant. For $10 Takeaway (except the prime nights) you get a large size curry and also a large size rice (unlike the half and half you might get from other establishments). Plus you also get way more pieces of chicken in the curry! Definitely recommend the takeaway option!
Looks can be deceiving. From the outside, this store looked pretty average; dodgy even. But man, they sell the best curries in East Auckland.
I've come here a few times for takeaways now and every time, the flavours of the curries are consistent and tasty. On most nights, the curries are only $10 which includes rice. What a deal! My favourite is the butter chicken, though it is a bit on the sweet side. But like I said, all their curries are pretty good.
Be sure to call ahead rather than just showing up as it can be a lengthy wait on busy nights. Definitely give this place a go if you're in the mood for Indian food. Definitely worth it.
Ok...so when i walked inside and saw this dingy little indian place i was not very impressed.

I love this place. LOVE it. By far, the best Indian food I have ever bought from a restaurant. And it's always consistent - it doesn't matter what day of the week, or what time of day, the food always tastes constitently the same. I've never once had a disappointing meal from the Indian Kitchen, and I've been getting food from them for years - and they're not even my local! Definitely my go-to for takeout night. Yum!

Have never dined-in here. I have only had takeaway. Last night we had Lamb Korma, Lamb Saagwala, Butter Chicken and Keema naan.
I really love the curry here, I love how the saagwala has texture and not like most Indian places that blends the sauce to death.
The curry is very full of flavour, I love it. I will always have curry here if I'm in the area.
The Indian Kitchen is a great little place to get takeaways. The interior of the restaurant has very little atmosphere so would rather bring the food home. When ordering, their time predictions are accurate and staff are always polite and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious. We have tried several dishes from the menu and they are all great.

I have been a frequent visitor to the Indian Kitchen in Howick and I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience
with their food. There are numerous Indian Restaurants opening in the greater Howick area and I have tried most of them back I keep returning to the tried and tested and great succulent food served by the Indian Kitchen in Howick and to add to the pleasure of going there the staff are always very polite and accommodating. If you want second grade Indian food then go elsewhere but if you are choosy and a lover of the real thing then do not miss out this excellent gourmet experience of the flavours of the Jewel in the Crown INDIA.

What a hidden gem this place is. The bland exterior belies the delights within. We dined there on Saturday night using a voucher which offered a curry, rice, naan bread and a wine or beer per person and I have to say we weren't expecting much, but how wrong we were. The staff were friendly, and the food exceptional, in fact all 4 of us agreed that it was, without a doubt, the best Indian food we have ever eaten and we have eaten a lot. The place was packed and the phone rang constantly with people ordering take out food, but this did not seem to affect the time it took to take our orders and for our meals to be delivered. We will definitely go there again and highly recommend the Indian Kitchen as a fantastic eating experience

Some of our friends have Gluten Allergy so it was great to know they do GLUTEN FREE CURRIES & they also do Curries with Less Cream or No Cream just in case if someone is allergic to Cream.

There is a reason we are regulars! We always get a fabulous welcome; and we love the food. I enjoy it when I take guests form out of the area - we are often told we have found a real geb. The decor is..well..interesting. But look past this to a place that locals love, warm and genuine service and outstanding indian food. If you are ordering takeaway - you may have to wait - so phone ahead. This is because it is such a favourite among the locals.
I enjoyed yet another great takeaway from Indian Kitchen at the weekend for my birthday.
I haven't had a bad meal there yet, this has to be some of the best Indian food in Auckland.
The chicken Saagwala was delicious and my children really liked the butter chicken.

A local gem! Indian cuisine Kiwi style and oh so delicious. Staff are friendly, fast and have a good knowledge of the menu. We have been there numerous times and can't wait to go back. Whether you do dine in or takeaway, everything is done superbly. If you have not tried this little hideaway, I highly recommend that you do.

The people are lovely and friendly and the service was great.
I ordered take away and went back to sit in my car, the man behind the counter brought it right to my car as it was ready 5 minutes before he told me to come back.
The food itself was really good Indian food.
Price is reasonable as in the area there are a lot of competing Indian places, this place gets my vote! I will be back here.

Last night we ordered Butter Chicken. First of all the service was quick and the staff very organized and friendly. I have to say it was the best butter chicken I have had in long time, I love the authentic Indian theme and the restaurant is very warm and cozy. Will definately be visiting there again. The Indian Kitchen is always busy but give it a try - we drive 45min across town just to get their food - no other Indian compares since we have had this! The Lamb Sagwalla and the Chicken madras are worth giving a go...and the prices are excellent for the amount of food that you receive.

This is the best indian food i have ever tasted, you always get great service the staff are friendly an helpful. theres a very good range of meals and starters to choose from for everybodys tastes, ranging from beef, lamb, chicken, seafood. The prices are amazingly cheap, the indian kitchen always have great specials avaliable, if you enjoy fine food and great customer service this is the place to dine.:)
Love this place for takeaways. The best in the area and always excellent. Good value for money. Love the Chicken Korma, plenty of succulent pieces of chicken. Phone your order and it's always ready to pick up when they say.

Indian Kitchen is amazing! Whether you are eating in or taking away, the food is consistently great! we drive from the North Shore for Friday night takeaways, and have eaten in with groups for birthdays etc.

What a fantastic Restaurant. I never used to eat curry, until someone told me to go to The Indian Kitchen in Howick. After tasting the Butter Chicken, I loved it so much, I kept going back and try other dishes. If you ask anyone in my family, even visitors from overseas what they would like for dinner tonight, they'll say "The Indian Kitchen". The staff is friendly, the food is very tasty, the Restaurant is clean and you get value for money. This is the best curry in the World!
I have been here many times and every time I have really enjoyed their curries! I can't complain about the food or service. Their prices are really reasonable and the staff are super friendly! I reckon they are the best Indian restaurant in Auckland! Much better than Masala!
I can hands down say that the Indian Kitchen is by far the best Indian food I have come across...EVER. The little restaurant is a hidden treasure that everyone should know about! The staff are welcoming and their passion for their business shines through in the quality of their food.
We live a good 30 minute drive away from the restaurant but will not go anywhere else for our curries, especially when its $10 takeaway curries 5 days a week!

Don't be fooled by the Indian Kitchen's modest appearance. This is the best Indian restaurant we have been to in Auckland. The food is cooked to perfection, with the meat tender and moist, spiciness to your liking and generous portions. The food quality is consistent every visit. In fact every other Indian restaurant that we have been to since trying their food has just disappointed, so this is always our first port of call for Indian food, whether dine in or takeaway. But what also makes a great dining experience is the host and here too, the Indian Kitchen scores top marks. The staff are always friendly, courteous, efficient and truly understand the meaning of hospitality. An absolute must-try!
We've gotten our Indian take-aways from here ever since we moved to Howick 7 years ago. At first, tried it just for the convenience (it's close) but have also tried other places. The taste & price just keeps us coming back. The food is always good - and the prices are very reasonable - esp. w/ the coupons. Highly recommend from very loyal customers!!

I have been going to the same Indian in Ellerslie for 14 years until a friend took me out to Howick for dinner 6 months ago at The Indian Kitchen, I haven't been back to Ellerslie.
I have been using this restaurant for about the last 6 months and i am hooked.The food is top class and service is excellent. Today I was forced to walk some distance to collect my meal.I was a bit distressed on arrival and Taruun and his staff where very concerned.I asked that a taxi be called and was advised that a 10 minute pick-up time was arranged.When my meals where ready and no taxi had arrived Taruun again called to find out where the taxi was,he got no satisfaction and cancelled the call and then delivered me home in his car. THANK YOU ARUUN.
Discovered this restaurant after moving local a few years ago. The food is better than any other Indian restaurants I have tried. Seriously amazing taste and value for money and such good service. The vegetarian options are the best I have had also.
Have been to this restaurant so many times yet I still enjoy every moment when I go! The food is beyond fantastic and the lamb rogan josh is to die for!! Most other Indian restaurants will be lacking in meat with plenty of sauce but here they really give excellent value for money and I'm always left with a full tummy and a smile!! The service well lets just say I've never experienced service like I have here!! Even without a booking they go out of their way to seat us and even with a full house the service between tables is identical and second to none!!

I am not used to writing reviews about restaurants unless there is an remarkable comment to be made. Been a passionate fan of Indian cuisine since the beginning, my craving for curries has taken me to many Indian restaurants in Auckland. I was restricted to the Indian restaurants in the vicinity of my home and they served fairly good curries with average dining experience and I was quite sceptical in trying out new places.
Until one day, my friend (Thanks to him!) introduced me to this Gem of a restaurant “The Indian Kitchen” in Rosscourt, Howick. I realised that my search for authentic indian cuisine stops here. I was hooked to the Butter Chicken to start with – succulent chicken, creamier sauce, perfect sweet and the right blend of spices. It further sparked my taste buds to try Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Saag and Chicken Madras (perfect blend of rich coconut and spices). The Naan was soft, fluffy, Garlic Naan (my favourite) was moist with melted garlic, were my best companion for the curry.
To be honest, I have never tasted a better blend of spices anywhere else. They don’t make you feel excessive or stomach upset even after opting for Hot curries (trying to be a bit adventurous at times!!). To top it all, the special price of $10 takeaway is a steal…with a portion size enough to douse your hunger pangs. You wont mind sharing it with your friend as well (for a change!!). The steaming white rice accompanying the curry adds to the experience.
I usually try something different on the menu every time I order, and I have never been disappointed. Excellent service and timely delivery of takeaway orders have been the forte of this establishment.
Don’t go by my words, get on with your own experience, I am sure you will have no regrets.

I have tried curries from about 6 Indian restaurants and this place tops all of them. At $10 Sunday-Thursday, it has become one of our favourite takeaways. The service is also excellent - prompt and hospitable.

The Indian Kitchen is definitely the place to be if you enjoy a good old ruby...I was going to say that Taruun and the staff go out of their way to ensure that your visit is enjoyable...but I don't think that they do "go out of their way" as their service is second to none and just comes naturally to them!
The food is superb and can be as mild or equally as ridiculously hot as your palate requires, but you can guarentee that it will be good...after all, 20 odd people queuing out of the door for their pick-ups surely can't all be wrong!

This place has been my favourite Indian for a couple of years now. It is amazing value ($10 takeaway curries during the week) but the food is also always excellent. The service is always attentive and they actually care....even when over-run with customers and constant takeaway orders. If you've been once or twice, they'll know your name the next time - AND how you like your curry. (I love it HOT!!) All dishes have generous portions of meat and it is always tender and juicy and perfect!! Also - if you ever have any suggestions they will listen to you!!!!! My favourites are the chicken madras and the lamb rogan josh! Their garlic naan bread is the best around. Fantastic little local place. I'm a regular and will continue to be!
Prompted to try this place following the reviews on here. As it looks like a take away place from the outside we never looked into it. One of the busiest evenings for them on a public holiday after Christmas , we were impressed with their friendliness calmness and great service when they were obviously over stretched. The food was great. Tasty and beautifully presented and good value. I love their eclectic serving dishes. We will definitely be back!
The prices for takeaway ($10 mains) are the best in Howick and the portions are generous. We had butter chicken and chicken korma and my only complaint is that the butter chicken was too sweet.
After reading all the reviews we think that maybe we caught them on an off night so we will try again.
Have been coming here for a couple of years now and the service and friendliness of the staff never disappoints. The quality of the food is excellent and the entrees in particular are very generously sized. I look no further than this restaurant when I feel the urge for an Indian meal.
Had another great meal with my wife at The Indian Kitchen last night, nice and warm inside, quick service naan bread served within 5 minutes of ordering, my wife had her fav which is butter chicken, I tried the chicken saagwala it was great, as I left I said to the staff... see you next time and that's usually about a month away, great fast service and great value
Love this Restaurant as the vibe is great and the staff are really friendly and from the moment you step in there you feel welcome. The BYO is great but also the beer and wine they serve is not expensive. The takeaways are awesome value too.

This is more than about the superb menu and quality of cuisine on offer. This place comes complete with a relaxed atmosphere that is delivered every time we visit. A place to dine with a group of friends or just two you will never be disappointed. The service from Tarun, Padmini and the team must be good I am sure I saw George Clooney dining there once. News is getting around.....
Excellent food, excellent service and great value for money. I would definitely recommend trying out the Indian Kitchen, the chicken saagwala is particularly good.

Best curry's by far I have tasted in NZ. Especially relevant if you are an expat from England as the Indian food from the Indian Kitchen is just like you would get back in England. We have introduced many friends to the Indian Kitchen who would agree with me.

We've taken relatives for dinner here and the food is so good, they order takeaways to travel home with! all the way to Waikato no less.
Having travelled to India on business for several years I can highly recommend this restaurant as the food is wonderful and cooked to perfection. The staff are very polite and always remember your name even if you do not visit on a regular basis.
I can say that if you visit you will not be disappointed but highly delighted and filled to satisfaction.

This is our local and we get a takeaway probably once a week. I love the food and rate it as one of the best and most consistent I have ever been to. The interior is not flash but it is what it is.
One improvement (and the only thing that prevents a 5 star rating) would be to invest in a warmer to keep the food warm rather than leaving it in bags on the floor behind the counter to get cold if you're a bit late. Otherwise top marks.
We have moved to another suburb, but still going back to this restaurant....great food and great service....however,as the others have said, the place needs a bit of a makeover...
one of my favorites, everything is about the food here, the place needs decorating but you can forgive them for that as the food is first class, I think they should change nothing, service food and ambiance 5 star and superb a real taste of India
The best Indian I've had. Curries have a lovely smoky authentic taste, naans soft and fresh, and great prices. Eat here nearly every week, highly recommended.
I am an Indian and my wife cooks a mean Butter Chicken and several other Indian dishes but this restaurant has outdone her!!! We just love the food at this place and their staff are really friendly. we usually have takeaways nearly every week.

Our absolute favorite Indian Restaurant - one not to miss, you can't beat their butter chicken or dry chilli chicken :) We generally always order takeaway, and dine in occasionally, every time the food is the same - excellent. Service fantastic, and great friendly staff - a credit to the owners.
Only place I've found in Auckland that makes a curry hot and tasty enough for my liking. Staff always helpful and its great value. Well worth the trip out there. If you like it spicy make sure you tell them. The butter chicken is especially good, but dont be afraid to try some of the stuff you've never heard of either. Yet to find a dish we dont love.

Always excellent quality food. We grab takeout from here all the time and are always happy with the food (however one time a year or so ago someone was really over-zealous with the hot spice --but all is forgiven!)

We had takeaway from here and found it to be some of the best Indian I've had yet! (and it's my fav so I've been around!)I have not yet eaten-in here but definitely intend too, the staff seemed really nice and friendly on my pick up.
My partner is very pleased with the food. The lamb curry was tender and the spicy level was up to standard. Love the fact that they serve Indo Chinese food- we love Manchurian chicken and friend noodles with our curries.

They were not so busy when we went. Food was slightly above average, non veg was better taste the vegetarian meals. Naans were good. Surely, we will be visiting again.

Kids love their meal butter chicken, we love our food as well we order the fish and ginger chicken it was so delicious, fish was so tender n juicy👌, mango lassi loved the tangy taste of the lassi couldn't get enough of it. Totally recommended.
The food at this unassuming indian restaurant is exceptional. Located on one side of a parking area at one end of Howick shops, the Biryani and Pakora were magic. Light, delicately seasoned rice with just the right amount of tender meat meant the Biryani one of the best I have ever had. The Pakora batter was close to perfect. If you love hidden gems, where modest premises produce remarkable quality, Indian Kitchen needs to be on your list.
