The service here was great and I liked the mirror that makes the room feel bigger and the navy tablecloths as it made it feel more classy. I ordered the Chicken Butter Masala (hot) and a tandoori roti. The curry was full of flavour and the roti was crispy on the edges and soft towards the middle. The rice was quite average and there was quite a small portion of curry compared to a large bowl of rice. There was an alarm-sounding ringing that happened constantly and the staff were always upstairs or away from the counter to do anything about it. Overall, had a nice experience here though.
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3/5
Service - 4/5
Good, spicy curries with decent amount of meat and loved getting home delivery on a wet cold night. Reasonable price too for takeaway home delivery.
I had their veggie biryani.. very delicious and filling. The raita portion should have been bigger in size but overall the taste and my experience was absolutely amazing .
Best indian food and superb quality. Always delicious. You will never go to any other restaurant if you try once. I eat out every day so very confident about it.
My husband and I are both vegetarian and really enjoy the food and options available. We've been here 4-5 times and the food is always hot, tasty, well cooked and nicely presented. The decor isn't welcoming or cosy but the food is what we go there for. Staff have always been polite and helpful.
Our family had dinner at Ginger recently. The restaurant is not large but cosy. Service is polite
and friendly. We ordered tandoori chicken ,lamb cutlets, paneer pakora and vegetable biryani.
All were good except the lamb cutlets which were not as tender as they should be .Also noticed they has used a lot of red food colour in this dish. The servings were generous. The mint chutney accompanying the tandoori chicken was a bit watery but the tamarind chutney was fabulous.
Overall a good restaurant with a number of choices on the menu . Would go back and try some other items on their menu
Love the food here, always great service & listen to suggestions when personalising meals. Only reason it's a 4.5 & not a 5 as all my orders have been takeaways, have yet to dine in.
Had dinner here to night. We ordered Chicken Butter Masala and Chicken Korma. The Butter Masala was really yummy but as for the Korma, Ive had much better ones. Hope they improve their korma! Also had cheese and garlic naan and it was good too!
Disappointed that the lunch special no longer included the drink as the large sign at the entrance clearly states. However, the server was very polite and apologised to me. Food was great to be completely honest. Just disappointed I wasn't getting the value that I was expecting before I walked through the door. Buyer beware!
Such a hidden gem! Came across this place after searching for a good local Indian restaurant on Zomato and remembered seeing it a few times down a side street. Really unassuming from the road but once you get inside it's cosy and cute, and often busy. Really, amazingly delicious food, I would go as far as saying it's the best Indian I've ever had.
We dropped in one day on a spur-of-the-moment, and we've never looked back. The food is very good - I'll leave it at that. There are better Indian menus in Auckland but the difference isn't a deciding factor. There's plenty of good options at this restaurant. Decor is so-so. What really makes it a favourite for us owes a lot to the fact that I'm very sensitive to standards of service. Menu and price come after service for me - Indian or otherwise. On the service score this place has never faulted and we've become monthly or so regulars. Importantly for us is that we can take visitors there in complete confidence that they'll find something on the menu that agrees with their palate and that we'll be treated politely and very much as if it's important to each staff member that their guests enjoy their meal. Given the downright superior attitudes on display at some of Auckland's 'finer' Indian restaurants, Ginger is a refreshing experience. Your food will come to the table fairly quickly even when they are busy, wait staff pay attention (you don't spend 5 minutes trying to catch someone's eye) and you'll leave very satisfied. Prices are fair and overall I always feel like I've had very good value.
Excellent, tasty food. Good customer service. Average ambience. Very good value for money both quality and quantity wise. Recommended and will go again.
Very very yum yum
It's like Masala/Saltd but fifty times better. If you feel like Indian food, just head down to ginger. Only thing that Masala/Saltd does better is the decor but GAAAMON who actually cares as long as the food is good.
Would come back on cheat days x
Take out review.
Massive meal for only $12!!!
Price for portion value is awesome, the curry was creamy(not watery at all), full of flavour and SO MUCH chicken.
Excellent wholesome meal and I will be popping back next week
Showstopper: All them chicken pieces!
Overall grade: B+
Simple review. Best Indian in Howick. There. Done. Go there. The balance of this review is made up to get to one hundred and forty characters!
We come the Ginger most Mondays. They serve quality and tasty food at a great price. Chicken Rara is a great dish to try here. Looming forward to trying some dishes off the new menu.
Saturday dinners in Howick are fairly quiet. It was only about a third full in the rather small dining area at Ginger, maybe because it has only renewed its liquor licence recently.
My wife & I took our seats and complimentary poppadoms were served in no time. We ordered our drinks, a mixed platter for entrée with samosa, onion bhaji, lamb seekh kebab & chicken tikka, mango chicken & lamb Dalya as mains and butter naans. Onion bhaji was not crispy & samosa was not my cup of tea, but I enjoyed chicken tikka & lamb kebab. Chicken was tender & juicy, but the mango sauce was just too sweet for a main. Lamb Dalya was beautiful. (Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)
My wife and I went here for lunch today and food and service was superb!! Great value for money especially their lunch special, you get rice, nan, curry and softdrink for $12 only, really bang for your buck! Highly recommended
Extremely good Indian food. Would definitely go again. Went with a grabone deal and the mixed platters were huge and tasty. Felt they were a little understaffed as it took a while for the waitress to deal with us throughout the night...poor girl. Food is as good as the Punjabi Dhaba and Raviz, but a bit cheaper
A friend of mine introduced me to this little place in Howick. Been to a lot of Indian places but Ginger was worth a visit & money well spent. Simply delicious food with a decent service and surprisingly not a ridiculous price tag. First visit had their special Spicy Prawns- WOW, amazing! Then followed by yet another DELISH curry, garlic naan bread is to die for! So far i have been their four times and those Asian-Indo fusion Spicy prawns & Chicken Manchurian are on the top of my list. Good work Team @ Ginger
Thank you Ginger!!!
Had to write a review on these guys talk about going beyond the call of duty, Awesome :-)
My family had bought a few deal vouchers for a ladies night out and had booked a table for Friday evening.
Unfortunately my aunt has been quite ill and unable to walk and leave the house, as such we contacted the restaurant to inquire whether the use by time could be extended so we could postpone the meal for when my aunt could go out.
Ginger Restaurant offered for us to use the vouchers for a take out meal even though this was against the vouchers conditions and as such we enjoyed a lovely meal in the comfort of our home.
My partner and I dined here with a voucher last year and were very impressed. We managed to get into this small restaurant on a busy night in Howick and they didn't mind seating us at table usually for four people. The entree platter was fantastic, varied choices and everything tasted great. The curry's and naans were just as good but as I filled up on the entree I barely touched mine. The service was great and I felt bad not ordering extras outside of the voucher but we already had more food than we could eat. The restaurant could do with some air con for when it is very warm but would dine here again.
This is the best Indian in the area and I try them all! The quality of ingredients is great and it is hard to get better value than their $10 special on Mon/Tues/Weds. They do not downsize the specials but you get the same generous portion and they are happy to box up any leftovers. My fave is lamb rogan josh and the nan breads are great too.
This is the best India restaurant in Auckland. 'Perfect" is the only way I can describe the food each time I've dined here. Each curry has a different distinct flavor and doesn't taste like the curry base is made by mixing curry bases of 2 different curries(as the case is at most Indian places). If you haven't tried Ginger Restaurant you're missing out on flavor.
Very affordable, great service. It's a small, clean & cosy place. I hope they open a branch in Manukau soon :-)
I have eaten several times at this excellent restaurant and also had a few takeaways. All times the food has been top quality. The service is very friendly and extremely helpful.
Nothing is too much trouble for them. The menu is extensive and prices are reasonable. A bonus is the BYO for which corkage is reasonable. Overall a very pleasant experience.
I have been here once when I wanted to try a new Indian place around the area.
Butter chicken is what I ordered, and it was made exactly how I like it. The people inside are very nice and service was not bad either.
Only critique would be that I found the restaurant to dark to eat in, everything else was well worth it. I would go back there to eat again !
Been to Ginger twice now. Used a voucher and we were not disappointed. Super sized entrees, delicious mains and fluffy rice. Polite and attentive waitress. Think they do special mains for $10 every Monday to Wednesday. Food is very tasty. Would come back again. Thanks
Been twice now, found staff to be friendly, but not in your face. Food is tasty and well made, they even made our 7 yr old a half sized meal which wasn't on the menu.
Went on a deal voucher which we have used a couple of times with friends at the Pukekohe restaurant. As Howick is considerably closer for us we thought we would give it a go. The food is just as good as the Pukekohe restaurant, the tastes amazing and the service and setting great...... Definitely will go back and take our friends. It's not often you find on these voucher specials that you come away feeling you have had excellent value for money. We had enough left over to take home for lunch for hubby the next day. The entrees are HUGE!! we wanted to try something a little different in our mains and the waitress was very obliging in explaining things too us and advising us. Thank you so much, we shall be back soon.....
Excellent value and service and the food was pretty good too! We were pleasantly surprised that even though we were using vouchers there weren't any of the more expensive menu items suddenly becoming 'unavailable' as we have recently experienced at another restaurant. The platters were very generous and tasty as were the curries and naans. The service was friendly and attentive and the waitress was more than happy to bag up our left overs - as much as we tried we just couldn't manage to get anywhere near finishing our meals. The restaurant's decor is stylish with the large mirror at the rear creating a sense of space if not a little disturbing to some diners seeing themselves munching away. I didn't think Howick really needed another Indian restaurant but after dining at Ginger Indian I've changed my mind and think this place is certainly an asset to Howick.
Loved the food and service. This is a new restaurant and they already have a restaurant in Pukekohe. The food was just excellent and quantity is generous. The food was prepared as per our specifications (less chilli and more of other Indian spices). Loved the taste. They have a good wine selection and run a special price on Mon, Tue, Wed. It's value for money from every point of view. The staff is courteous and the interior is good. All in all it's now one of our favourite places in Howick.
Fairly newly opened restaurant. We have been 3 times now and they have just got their alcohol license so you can have the perfect meal. It's still BYO wine, which is great. The meals are very reasonably priced, but the food is absolutely delicious! A smart interior as oppose to some that look like a take away inside, and swift attentive service. Mid week specials mean you can get a great meal very cheaply. It's become our favourite local Indian restaurant
Staff here were absolutely lovely! Was only here to grab take away and made me and my partner feel very welcome! Delicious authentic Indian at a great price. Even gave a glass of water and free popadoms while we waited!
