We had a stop here on our way from Auckland to Rotorua. We were just amazed by the location of this cafe. Just along the highway on the bank of a river. All the seating of the cafe is facing the river. And they have also a beautiful lawn on the slop towards the river, with some benches and tables to sit seeping your coffee, admiring the views of this place. We just had our restroom break here, which are very clean. And enjoyed our afternoon coffee, which was also great. There is also a souvenir shop here. You aught to stop here on your way to rotorua. This place is so nice and pleasant, it refreshes you.πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ‘πŸ»

Always clean and tidy. Good variety of food items from fruit to full cooked meals. Hot or cold. The staff are pleasant and helpful and keep the cafe clean and organized. Just one criticism, the staff need to smoke away from the building as the ramp/balcony is too close to the seating area and blows through the dining area. And it's not a good look either.

The staff at the river haven cafe are absolutely lovely. A very kid friendly place here. Nice views of the river. Was happy with the gluten free slice. A little bit on the higher price scale. But overall a very pleasant little tea room.

We did not enter the cafe here. We were looking for the merino clothing shop that we used to visit in the past. Very sad that the merino shop and i-site building now empty as it used to be such a buzzing place. In 2015 we visited all 3 places with an overseas visitor and all up and running although cafe was not looking great and not a fan of "railway" cups to have tea in! The food was very average and the place looked very tired. Such a shame as it gas a great outlook over the river.

I only had some cake and a short black but the coffee was excellent and the cake was nice and rich. I am very fussy with my espressos and this definitely passed with no notable bitey acidity which usually comes with a cafe style double espresso,it tasted more like a home made one. Yuuuuuuum

It's a bit old fashioned and the coffee is not great but the food is fantastic. Really nostalgic coffee lounge type place. Asparagus rolls and boiled eggs...proper home baking too.

Great selection of food and drink. Ample parking. Clean toilets. Always enjoy my visit there. Never busy unless you clash with a tour bus arrival.

Very nice cafe with great views and food; whole complex includes shop, cafe, bathrooms and lookout over the river and powerstation, situated in ideal stopping point between Auckland and Waikato destinations.

When I first came to NZ, this was the first place we stopped on the way to Rotorua. Ever since then, every time we go out on a road trip and pass Huntly, we will always stop by religiously, either for a toilet break, or to grab a snack. It's like a must visit place for me.

Love the location of this cafe. Didn't get to try the food, only the coffee since I was only passing by. Love the fireplace and the greenery from the windows.

A true kiwi stop. Pies rule. Dated decor adds to that true kiwi roadside stop. But great sausage and perfect homemade savory.
