We had a very pleasant evening. The atmosphere was warm and homely with a fire going, and not noisy despite a lot of other diners. All staff were friendly and efficient. When our food took a while coming they apologised and made sure we were sorted for drinks. Well worth the wait! We got the New Porker and the Cajun Chicken and everything was cooked perfectly. So fast to box our leftovers too, which werr just as good next day. We were impressed by both the quality and service here.

Booked a table here this evening for an early birthday dinner for my son. We were taken to our table by a friendly waitress named Kate. I ordered a coffee which I'm greatfull they had as I was feeling a little sluggish,One of the best mochas I have had lately (Credit to whoever made it) We ordered our meals and waited for them to arrive, The restaurant wasn't to busy at 5pm which was nice,Around 20 odd minutes later dinner arrived my son had the Hero burger with coleslaw and fries which he couldn't finish, Unfortunately no flag with his meal cause they had ran out but it's not a biggy. I got the 9 pork ribs which as someone who regularly cooks ribs at home I was very impressed,Great flavour, Tenderness falling off the bone just how I like. All in all a great experience, Unfortunately I didn't have any cash to tip Kate for her great Hosting but I'll be back sometime to gift her a voucher for giving great service to my son for his early birthday. Thank you

It was my first trip to New Zealand I had resisted the easy temptation of chain restaurants because yeah I can have something like that at home. But I was a little tired and I was hungry so meh why not. I was quite surprised for a Monday night, expecting reheated weekend fair. I was swiftly shown to my table and a cold cider was placed on my table not long after my order. I had a little time to catch up on my day and journalise my day while a few other customers enjoyed their meal. Both servers were attentive, checking on their guests and myself with a smile. My meal was quite delectable. The mash was well seasoned and full of carby goodness. The beans, broccoli and carrots were firm and well cooked _worked especially well with the jus (again a good symphony of flavours. The shoulder of lamb was tender, seasoned, charred and scrumptious. The cherry tomatoes and cheese floating in jus seemed unnecessary as a side for the meal. Maybe I won't be so quick to avoid safe options in the future because lets face it there is a reason why they expand and dependable - they have some good meals.

We came in for some good comfort food after a long day of hiking and Long Star really hit the spot for us. We started with a heap of nachos loaded with savoury beef and cheese and devoured it in no time. The wait for the meat mains was a tad long (30-40 min?) but us being ravenous humans were delighted with the huge portions that arrived on our table… And pleasantly surprised by an extra main delivered to our table? Turns out there was a miscomm with the orders and the waitress had placed our order for a lamb share plate when we’d meant to ask for empty plates to share our dishes. We were more than happy to pay for the dish as the lamb was absolutely delightful but the manager/wait staff insisted it would be on the house and didn’t let us pay for it. Was a very pleasant surprise and topped off a great holiday for us. We also got the venison which was perfectly cooked and tender, and the ribs which were tasty although overdone. Was a slight struggle finishing the food but was very satisfied with the quality of our meal overall 😋

Delicious food. Great portions, keeping up a good reputation. Our waitress Shane was lovely, very patient, no issues, and she sang happy birthday for mum, which she loved. They did well putting a candle in her icecream! (She didn't want a cake). Creme brulee wasn't exactly the usual, quite sweet and didn't like the berry coulis in it in the end, but would depend on your taste. Everything else was cooked and made to perfection! And we had quite a few meals.

We were served by Grace. She was really lovely and laughed at my Husband's Dad jokes. Well done Grace. The food was great as usual and the atmosphere was brilliant as it wasn't really busy so not too loud.

Next time you fancy a rib feed, call past lone star and get their ribs to go! No fuss, hot, delicious, and feeds 4. Check out their deals (better to pick it up yourself), Ribs come with their traditional slaw, chunky potatoes, chicken bits and ailoli.

Lone Star is one of our favorite restaurants to eat at. First time at the Southland one and you did not disappoint :) catering for my mother in law's wedding, the food was excellent along with the service. A great place for functions, celebrations or just a lovely meal
