This shop has been recommended by several of my Filipino colleagues and friends, saying that it's their favorite Filipino restaurant.
Halohalo, the icy dessert that every Filipino loves, but I'm not a fan of the jelly and canned fruits underneath, but the homemade ube ice cream is delicious, will definitely just order a scoop next time. As well the ube cake is yum.
The crepe cake filled with potato dish and chicken sisig are average, but enjoyed the deep fried pork belly with their special sauce.
Wanna try their soup dish next time

So far, I personally think this is the best filipino restaurant in Auckland. I love their dinuguan, crispy pata, sisig, kare-kare and of course the desserts (ube ice cream, ube cake & halo halo). I also like their mamon and puto bumbong. However, it is sadly not available all the time. They have boodle fight here too.

Con: Parking is a bit of a hassle here as there is not much space.

Walked in and the atmosphere was awesome. Really clean, tidy and well decorated ornaments. Love how cosy it was too - they have a heat pump!! Authentic Philipino tv was also playing, added to the experience :) cashier greeted me with a smile and was friendly. Toilets, tables etc were super clean too!!

I ordered: Pandan and ube (purple yam) icecream
and Ube cake

Portions were a generous size, good value for money. Approx $5 for the huge cake slice, $5.50 for 2 big scoops of ice-cream. Maybe an improvement would be to add more ube to the ube flavoured icecream? But I know ube is expensive, and for the price it was great :) would come again!

The only Filipino restaurant that is the most authentic you could find in Auckland!! Servings were huge, tastes of the Kare-Kare and Sisig were impeccable. To top it off, Halo-Halo dessert had every single topping it should consist of and I am so pleased with it. With just that, this place deserves 5 stars!

This was the first filipino restau I have tried in Auckland. I totally enjoy it! The taste of their foods was enough to satisfy my cravings for filipino foods. The prices are reasonable and servings are good. Each dish is good for 2-3 people.

The Ambience/place seems so humble. It is not fancy. It actually look likes a filipino canteen, which is totally great.

We ordered the ones that we can't cook at home. Crispy Pata 🐖🐖 and Kare Kare. Both are good. The crispy pata is really cheap for its price cause it has big serving.

We also ordered some desserts (Pandan cake and Yema cake). Both are good but I prefer the pandan cake.

Something they can improve is the presentation of their foods, anything else is fine.

Fantastic food, different experience eating with hands straight from banana leaves! Good variety of meats and side dishes. Definite food coma. It’s located on the corner of the Kelston intersection so parking at the plaza is more ideal. Service was good, dessert 💯💯. Ube (purple yam) cake and ice cream, seriously sooo good. Rich colour and flavour.

I always come here whenever I’m seriously craving for comfort food. I love their Kare-Kare, probably the best one in Auckland yet. Their Ube Cake is divine, so soft and just like what you always get in the Philippines. Their food surely reminds me of home 🇵🇭

Fresh food made to order. The rice with the pork was very tasty, juicy and had that bbq flavour to it, most likely cooked over charcoal, and the crispy mushroom chicken was very delicious with real mushroom pieces.

The dessert is a must try, but needing to add sweet palm (kaong) to give it that extra flavour.

Very friendly staff, cosy place. We had the Boracay boodle fight which needed to be ordered 24hours in advance. It was my first time having a philipino meals and I was impressed.
The serving was great~~ food was placed on banana leaves, it is very clean and well presented. Overall taste was very nice except the soup was a bit salty. I like the yellow rice and prawn.
It is a great place for gathering.

If you are a pinoy and craving for Filipino food, this is the right place for you. Staff are very nice and pleasant. Place is normally packed with customers so it’s either you go earlier or just phoned them for take aways. Taste of food is really good compared to those other pinoy restos here in Auckland. I can’t wait to try their Boodle feast with friends soon.

The ambiance is good. The interior is very Philippine-like. Maybe for a second you'll forget you're in New Zealand.

They have a good range of dishes and they're authentic. Affordable price with a good service size. One thing I dislike is their sisig. I used to like it but when I ordered it again it was as if it was full of liver. Barely any meat there, I was really disappointed. The rest of the food is good, my non-Filipino partner kept on asking me if we can go back because it tasted really good. It left him a good impression. And of course they serve halo-halo and it is the best one in auckland. Ingredients were in generous amount and the serving size was good. Unlike others, it was just full of ice. It was an authentic halo-halo.

I will come back here for their halo-halo

My go-to Filipino place! This place has the closest (if not authentic) taste to native Filipino dishes. The staff are always cheerful and polite (like real Pinoys 😊). The boodle meal is a must! You get more than what you pay for ($30) and you get to taste more dishes. 4 stars because of the size of the place. It gets really crowded and there is not enough parking. But I’d still eat with that crowd or park across the road. 😉😊

If you’re looking for Filipino home cooked meals in a casual environment then Gold Ribbon is a good place. They even have karaoke and TFC (Filipino tv channel) playing while you eat. It gives you “eating at home” vibes. Crispy Pata and the Sisig are my favourites. Reasonably cheap and generous sizing too. Food is quite nice and it’s almost always consistent. If you like Leche Flan and Ube cake but you’re still feeling full, no worries, you can take some away!

Ambience-3.5/5
Food-4/5
Service-4/5

The family was craving for an authentic Filipino home cooked meal. Our favourite was the pork belly sinigang. The broth is well balance with its clean sourness flavour which is great with the rice that came with the dish. They did not skimp on the pork pieces and vegetables. The serving is good for two people, just add another cup of rice and you’re good to go. The fresh vegetable lumpia was tasty with a good lathering of the sauce- good vegetarian option. The bangsilog (fried fish and egg) was good with the garlic rice. With the seafood kare kare, you could taste the peanut butter sauce which made the sauce thick and flavourful.
I may have been accustomed to drier versions of bicol express but would have preferred the coconut sauce to have been reduced down a bit more.I was expecting a fiery dish but was pretty tame. There was a fresh chilli placed on top of the dish which you could cut down and mix in depending on the heat intensity you want I guess.

In the past I had drinks and dessert here which customers come a lot for. I would recommend their ube (sweet yam/ purple kumara)desserts- shake, ice cream and cake. The sago’t gulaman is very refreshing as well.

The only draw back is parking- very limited as sharing with other establishment on the building. Its on a corner of an intersection so no roadside parking available.Might be difficult during peak time. An option could be parking across the street on the shopping centre-just check the time limit

Haven't eaten here since 2015, i guess that shows how much of a mainstay this place is. I buy cakes here for every occasion; birthdays, work functions and parties. I've tried taro, mango, pandan and cookies and cream. I would thoroughly recommend their cakes if you want to wow your friends. The mango and pandan were the biggest hits. They're always light, fluffy and moist.
Price wise it's comparable to any franchise cake shop, but the wow factor of Filipino flavours is the real appeal. Will be buying cakes again, but can we please get a coupon card.

Was a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff :) food was amazing! First time trying Filipino food so I can't really compare this with other Filipino foods or restaurants. BUT.. I thought the food was bluddy delicious! If i were to describe the food in my own opinion.. To me, Filipino food is the Asian equvilant to Polynesian food or island food. So damn good.

Only negative thing about this place is the car parking.. Just park across the road at the mall if there's no parking spaces

Love this family business. Food was great and delicious. Well priced and massive portions for the karekare. Said it could feed 2-3 but if youre getting another dish on the side you could probably feed 4-5 for $50. We also got ube cake and shake. Super delicious and a must have if coming here. Not too many Filipino restaurants around so this is a must try. Service could he a little better but overall everything was really good.

I've seen these guys all over fb and now I finally get to try it. We got there like an hour before they were about to close but so initially their service wasn't as friendly. It was quite stuffy inside - needed better ventilation.

Wanted to try something out of the "norm" like adobo so I think I got the pancit palabok. Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made in terms of trying something different. The noodles were so nice. The flavours to the dish wasn't strong and it wasn't bland. Like just enough. And a huge bonus was that the dish was pretty big!! It was just real hearty and gave you that homely feel. I really enjoyed this dish 😍

I ordered the Ube shake - it's pretty much just a taro flavoured shake. But oh. my. gosh. It's so different to all the taro flavoured foods and drinks I've had. Very unique flavour and texture.

Also ordered a chicken adobo to takeaway for lunch the next day. And OH. MY. GOD. it really was something else!! Like the chicken meat was falling off the one and the flavours were beautiful despite the amount of garlic in it. And this was the NEXT DAY! Imagine how amazing it would've been fresh??! Ugh. 100% will be back for more 🤤

Tried this for lunch yesterday. Food was great. I tried the lechon kawali, which is a fried pork dish on rice with lechon sauce. Very tasty, and the portion sizes are huge! Also tried the Ube cake, which is purple in colour- was one of the best cakes I've ever had! Even took a slice home for the parents to try... definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Came for a birthday dinner with a fairly large group. The place wasn't too busy so the service for our table was quite good. There was a large selection of different Filipino dishes. We tried a range of different ones and they were all alright. The flavour wasn't quite right compared to other Filipino places I've tried before. The binagoongan had quite a lot of sauce and didn't have a strong shrimp paste flavour which I was hoping for. the Crispy pata was a bit dry.

The ube cake however was quite nice. Nice flavour and very moist. The pandan shake was also good although very sweet. Again the leche flan didn't have the right flavour. They also had ube ice cream which was really nice.

Nice service and ok food but nicely priced. It came to around $20 per person for a really filling meal. They also have a set menu which needs to be pre-ordered and looks interesting.

Price - 5.0
Taste - 4.0
Ambience - 2.5
Staff - 3.5
Cleanliness - 2.0

Food prices are affordable, especially considering how big their servings are. My favorite dishes here are pancit canton and pork sisig. It's a shame that pork sisig was not available when we dined here today.

I was a bit disappointed with their halo-halo. It lacks the ingredients that should typically be there such as langka and nata de coco. They don't put enough shaved ice, so ice is gone before you are halfway through it.

Restaurant floor is greasy and badly needs cleaning. Wait staff are okay. I suggest that they at least have a uniform to look more presentable.

Parking is hard to secure because it is located alongside a big laundromat that seems to be busier than this resto. Aj Chan

We tried their boracay boodle feast today!! And oh boy!! What a feast it was! Basically its $120 worth of food for 4 people. I have not been there before so i didn't realy know what to expect... But i love Filipino food!

So we had a combination of white rice and java rice (fried rice with garlic) and we had some egg salad and cucumber salad, some noodles, bbq pork, fried fish and prawns. Then we had the beef steak cooked in soy sauce and lemon, beef soup with cabbage, pork sinigang (filipino version of tom yum) and some kare kare (beef stew in peanuts sauce) served with bago-ong (fried shrimp paste)! They were soooooo good! Apart from the cucumber salad (i don't like cucumbers) i enjoyed everything!

The food had that lovingly prepared home made taste to it... It reminded me of my teenage years when my home stay mum used to cook filipino food. I loved it!

Will definitely come back again to try their pancit palabok!

Me and my boyfriend are regulars here, he stays in West (Glen Eden) which makes it easier for us to often visit this place. Gold Ribbon serves traditional Filipino food. It may not taste exactly the same as the food we cook way back home but I speak as a Filipino, I can say it will satisfy your tastebuds.

I've already tried different dishes like Bicol Express (pork stew in coconut sauce), Pork Binagoongan (pork sauteed in shrimp paste and selected veges), and Palabok but Lechon Kawali (deep fried pork belly made crispy and tasty serve with sauce or vinegar) is my favourite. On the other hand, Chicken Sisig (sizzling chicken sauteed in garlic, onion and chilli topped with egg) has my boyfriend's tastebuds, he never orders different dish. Halo-halo is one of the desserts they have and perfect for summer. Basically crashed ice with a tropical mixture of beans, jackfruit, pearls, jelly, banana, coconut and milk topped with ice cream.

We had a bad experienced once when we ordered Pork Sisig (fried pork pieces sauteed in garlic, onion and chilli topped with egg) but what we've gotten was a bunch of pork liver, we didn't know why and it was disgusting to eat but weeks after that, we came and told them about it, the man (I'm not sure if he is the owner) apologized and offered us the Ensaymada (flavoured bread topped with grated cheese) in return for free which I think was a good move from him to keep loyal customers. On positive side, their service is time efficient and the food they serve has value for money and I really like the serving portion (good for sharing) of some of the dishes.

We'll continue to visit this place as our casual lunch spot.

What we ordered: - $6 Yema cake slice - $6 Ube cake slice - $14 Fiesta halo halo - $8 Pandan shake We also got three ensaymada for $10, we haven't tried them yet though because of the intense sugar crash we're currently recovering from. I have never had halo halo, nor anything ube flavoured, nor pandan, so I have absolutely no idea whether this restaurant makes good food in comparison to other Filipino food. However, I can say that this was all incredible. The halo halo was sweet with so many different elements that I honestly can't begin to name, I think there was some beans and maybe egg custard and pandan jelly but I have absolutely no idea. The cakes were both super good and not too sweet with the layers of fresh whipped cream and soft cake. The ube cake especially was so good, it was super light and fluffy and just incredible. The pandan shake was my personal favourite. I don't know how to describe it but my immediate thoughts were that it kind of tastes like vanilla ice cream and cheese cake cookie crusts? I'm not sure if I'm sticking with that description but the takeaway is that it was all incredible!

Had beef kare kare and a slice of ube cake. The kare kare was very good, its under-salted but you're meant to have it with the shrimp paste which perfectly seasons it. But only have a little of the paste with each spoonful because its powerful stuff. The ube cake was delicious of course as many other reviews on here have said.
