Nice cosy little place. Been a couple of times now and not been disappointed. Coeliac safe with a separate GF menu 😊. Good food and service. Love that it’s byo. My new favourite local.
Lovely food and cosy atmosphere. This place is becoming my go to Japanese restaurant. Taking my own nice wine is a bonus but I do take my own glasses as well.
This LITLE Japanese restaurant is my favorite in the area,, it's always good and the Lady chef owner is amazing the menu is quite extensive for a LITLE place but she manage really well. I have no hesitation to recommend this LITLE gem to anyone who likes Japanese food.
Ren is one of my go-to's for fast, healthy, delicious food during the week. Very nice atmosphere and service, lovely well priced food, highly recommend.
Pleasant, simple decor and authentic Japanese fare served with a smile. If you're in Kohimarama or neighbouring suburbs it's a nice, local spot to get satisfying Japanese favourites, and enough of a secret that it's almost always possible to get a table even if you just walk in off the street.
We're in love with the gyoza, but there are plenty of good options. Inexpensive and easily as good as most of the other Japanese places I have been to in town (I think only Tanuki on Queen St. might be marginally better).
Ate here for dinner. Service was good with a friendly waiter and food was yum with the prices not bad. I'd recommend the chicken cutlet and beef tataki or there is a lot of seafood available if that's the preference. It's a nice, cozy little restaurant though because it's small it's a bit hard to walk through between the tables.

This is a real gem of a place offering great quality, authentic food at a good price, made even better because BYO is an option. I lived in Japan 4 years so am picky about my Japanese food.
The quality comes very close to the top Japanese restaurant in the area, but at Ren you will actually be able to get a booking here without calling weeks in advance!
The lighting and ambience are really pleasant (tho not fancy) if you want an intimate dinner or private conversation.

Presentation of the food is amazing and so healthy! The cusine that we ordered was incredibly tasty and we were impressed and would defintely visit again!
Service was good and timely and waiter very pleasant and caring.Food prices within budget with mains round $20 and other accompaniments a good price. Serves Sake & beer byo wine. Food seemed fresh.
Enjoyed our evening- perhaps not the great selection offered elsewhere but still well worth a visit. Will return for sure.
One of few authentic Japanese owned and operated restaurants in Auckland. If you’re expecting large portions that’s not really what the Japanese dining experience is about. You should go get a steak at the Lone Star instead. The restaurant is small but intimate with a great menu. A perfect place to dine with a group of foodies.
The sashimi-don (if you like raw fish), and aburi-salmon (seared salmon) are delicious! I also recommend the chicken cutlet and tempura. Yummy!

Only caveat is that it's quite a small venue, so if it can get a little loud. Not an issue for us though!
