Authentic and delicious food!
My family visits The Gallery pretty often mostly for takeout, and the owners know us fairly well. We usually get the same thing every visit and it’s great every time - sometimes we even get some extra chicken. The sushi is great as well. I can’t speak for the cafe side of the menu, but having tried the Japanese food I can safely assume that it’ll be tasty as well. Charlie shows off his amazing photography and some vintage cameras he’s collected and it makes for fantastic decoration. Both the owners are truly lovely people and I highly recommend the food.
One of our favourite places in Kumeu, good for a tasty bit of breakfast or a reliable place for a dinner after work. And do admire the photography on show.
Such a lovely dining environment, I went here for dinner and the lady was so welcoming. I had the katsu bento box , it had so many flavours! The miso soup was so yummy! Highly recommend giving this place a try.
Great neighbourhood place, lovely service and yum food. Have eaten in and get takeaways regularly- both are always great. New menu is tasty too

We went for lunch on a cold thundery day and had a couple of the bento boxes they were delish 😊It was lovely and warm inside with easy parking directly outside. Had the place almost to ourselves at times which meant it was great for talking unlike some popular places which are noisy.
Great meal and friendly hosts. Loved the spicy chicken Donburi and the kids meal was huge. Would highly recommend this place for a Japanese meal.
My partner and I had the eggs Benedict, surprisingly good hollandaise. Big potions. Well poached eggs. And there was spinach under the bacon which I love, gives it all balance. Good coffee too. Would come back to try other stuff.
Came for brunch. Had the spicy pork donburi, chicken teriyaki hot plate, coffee and hot choc.
Coffee was perfect, hot choc was nice.
Food was amazing, fresh salads and veges, nice and spicy which was good.
Service was quick, super friendly and made us feel welcome. Will defs be back
Had brunch here fab food pancakes are just the best all fresh fruit and so good. The staff or owners are very friendly and great service. Eggs Benedict are fab eggs cooked perfectly. will come back
We went here on a Friday night as it's our local Japanese place. Lovely people and great food! We had tempura and bento boxes which were fabulous! Our waitress put our orders in wrong and so initially donburi arrived but was fixed up pretty quickly no problems. Highly recommend the vege tempura and the katsu pork bento box - YUM! Love all the photography on the walls it was a nice personal touch - I believe all taken by the chef? Would love to see them stock some plum wine and then it would be just perfect. Thanks for a great night we'll be back!

Very good food. Menu is simple, and food and service was gr8. Wife and I love japanese and this was well worth it. Pork katsu was very tasty as was the salads
great little restaurant in my locality, have been there about four times in the last six months. there are no negatives from myself or my wife. I have no problem reccomending this cafe to any one. cheers mike king
Being a huge fan of Japanese food, we ate at The Gallery and were very impressed! Our edamame bean starter was well cooked and not lathered in salt as most restaurants feel the need to do. Our prawn sushi starter was made fresh, with the prawns still hot in the middle. The bento mains were amazing, with a fantastic array of food. We had the tempura and spicy pork, the pork being cooked to perfection. I even got asked for the spice level I wanted!
The service was very friendly and personable, with little waiting.
Highly recommended if you're driving past, or happen to be at the chippy next door and fancy a change!
Fast friendly service with delicious food. We had bento, yakitori, and salads with vegetarian options. The size portions were good and food was tasty. Would have been better if we didn't find a hair in one dish and a metal shaving in another dish.
I'm surprised no one else has reviewed this place. It's a absolute gem in the heart of Kumeu. I've been here more than 10 times and each time is consistently delicious. The people who work there are lovely and the food is amazing portions and quality. I've tried nearly everything on the menu but my favourite is pork katsu donburi. The pork is always crispy, the sauces are mouthwatering and the salad is refreshing and light. Definitely go here if your passing through

I have never been a big sushi fan as I do not like seaweed too much but my partner does. The times I have eaten there I have enjoyed my food and they have a nice selection of tasty food to treat yourself to and they even sell alcohol for all of you that like to drink during your lunchtime meal or during a little team meeting. The staff there have always been friendly and you can tell they genuinely care when they remember you and what you order.
Can reccomended if you are looking for a nice relaxing place to eat :)

A busy cafe because it is so very good. Great atmosphere and great service.
The food is fresh and full of flavour, good portion size. Service is great and the staff are really nice people.
If they run out of the Sushi you want they will rush to make it fresh for you too.
Finally, when at the counter you will notice they have a huge number of regulars. Regular custom is the true sign of a good cafe.
Lovely food and good coffee. My friend and I both enjoyed our Japanese lunch. I thought the shaved bonito on my noodles added a tasty and authentic touch.

The best Japanese restaurant in the area! I had the miso noodles for breakfast at 9:30 (pregnancy cravings) and the whole café exceeded my expectations. Very nice decor with photography and very good quality food
