Very good service and friendly staff. When they got my order wrong one time as they misheard me they apologized and replaced it with no fuss.
The Buttermilk Chicken Burger I had the most delicious and moist chicken on it. Served with a side of nice thick fries and aioli sauce.
I also really enjoyed trying my first Affogato here which is a Vanilla Ice-cream with hot espresso poured on top. The coffee was quite strong but tasted amazing with the ice-cream.
I would highly recommend them and look forward to returning.

My fave would have to be the BLT sandwich - yuuum!! The atmosphere is great, same with the service. Gotham is our go-to for work lunches :-)

The best coffee in Lower Hutt,  also they reward after 5 cups to one free, very generous, great food and excellent service, highly recommend to All!

Popped in here with a couple of friends when we reached hangry after a bit of shopping. We were a bit surprised that it looked nothing like the Wellington version as we were expecting a bit of a theme.
With the menu the thing that took my fancy was the macaroni cheese, it actually had no bacon in it, this pleased me greatly. It was a good macaroni cheese and served very hot. I just don't understand the ned for bacon in this dish so I will return for a rerun when I get the urge.
My friends both had salmon polenta cakes, they enjoyed them but mentioned they needed a bit more seasoning.
All up, this was a pleasant place to eat and the kind of place I would return to with my daughter.

Went for my first visit the other day. I found a pleasant place which appears to be well patronized by a variety of customers. Only had time for a coffee, but food appears quite interesting. Will return one day for lunch.

Wednesday 12 November 2014 - well I made it for some food this morning, as they were open when I went past on my early morning walk so decided to pop in and try them out.

It was just after 7 am so not many people about. I was pleasantly greeted by the wait person who took my food and coffee order.

I ordered poached eggs with sour dough toast plus a long black. As can be seen in some respects presentation may not be Gotham's strongest attribute, but the poached eggs were excellent. I do hate butter in those portion control packs though. Another plus I was automatically offered a bottle of water and a glass.
A key point is that poached eggs on toast is a simple dish which when properly done as here demonstrates whether the place can cook as there is nowhere to hide. The toast was not over done, the eggs were how I like them and the yolks of both eggs were the same colour and consistency. Consequently I have upped my rating for here to a 4. It will be interesting to see whether I think the same after visits in the future.

My experience was positive. Another plus point here is the clean and spacious toilet facilities, an improvement on those in many other places, especially when the facility appears to have been shoehorned in as an aberrant afterthought.

UPDATE October 2015
My wife and I went for breakfast the other Sunday after a trip to the supermarket. We had an excellent breakfast with well prepared food pleasantly served. The cafe was comfortable, not noisy and the bathrooms continue to be clean.

Today was our first try at Gotham. The staff were friendly and attentive however the wait for our meals was longer than average and diners who came in after us were served and finished before we got out meals. I had the Eggs Montreal (pictured), my husband the Eggs Benedict. I got 4 cups of tea out of my pot, so was happy at that. But there was far too much ice cream and very little coffee in my husband's iced coffee. The hollandaise sauce was lovely, however the Eggs Benedict was advertised with ham - what was presented appeared to be shoulder bacon. The items on the menu are bog-standard and a bit pricier than most places of its calibre so it is not likely we will go back and have the same again.

My husband's point of view:
First time visitors to Gotham. The name was curious and we were interested to see what theme this inspired the café to be. We both must have missed it, as apart from the dark walls and carpet there didn’t seem to be a theme. No Batman-ish city or Goth-dressed staff. Maybe there was never intended to be one.

Anyway, food. Eggs Benny (ham) for me, and the same for the wife, but with salmon. Whilst waiting for what seemed too long, we watched what others were eating. To port was bacon and scrambled eggs – the eggs looked overcooked and unappealing, and the toast barely cooked. On starboard the same was delivered to people who arrived and ordered after us, and things had improved. The eggs looked freshly made. It all comes down to timing it seems.

Eventually ours arrived, and visually was impressive. Well presented, and the home-made hollandaise was superb. The eggs were well cooked, and had good colour. I noticed my ham had been replaced with bacon. Bacon! This is rarely a Bad Thing, however my moment of exquisite pleasure didn’t last long. It was nasty shoulder bacon, overcooked, dry and chewy. If it was the same bacon as given to the people beside me, I’d have been a happy camper, but no.

Took the shine off what could have been a good meal, and with two hash browns was priced over $21.00 and not good enough.

The wife was happy with her meal, and got 4 cups of tea out of her teapot, so she was content.

Will we go back? Hard to say. No reason not to, but then no reason to make a special trip.


Update: 
Well ... we've been back twice. Once in 2016 and yesterday (3.01.2017) On both occasions it was only because other places we wanted to go weren't open. On all three occasions the wait time has been extremely long and people who have arrived after us have got their kitchen-made meals before us. This last time my tea order was not put through and our food eventually arrived cold - my poached eggs were hard-boiled ... this on a day where a 15% surcharge applied. The owner compensated by giving us $30 vouchers for a future visit. This was appreciated and my tea, in the end, was superb... but a 4th visit will be only to use the vouchers.
