We loved sitting in the sun at Hooked on Marahau, especially enjoyed happy hour sitting with friends, the view is amazing and the staff very friendly.
Great coffee the next day also.
Thanks Zoe and the team, we'll be back!
I had a meal at Hooked on Marahau recently with a friend.
We had fantastic seats looking out to sea at the end of the day as the light faded. There is indoor and outdoor seating to suit your needs.
Zoe is an excellent host, very welcoming, and made it seem you we're having dinner at her place.
We must recommend their squid dish and give it 5 *****
They were the biggest rings I have seen, with an exquisite and subtle flavor, and without a doubt melted in your mouth.
Squid lovers you must try this dish, you will not be disappointed!
I have visited New Zealand six times in the last 20 years. I am a great lover of this fine country, its beauty, friendliness, climate and cuisine. As to the latter, I greatly enjoyed two dinners this past January at Hooked on Marahau.
At each of my two meals, the food, beer and wine were excellent, as was the service. The view, across Sandy Bay, and the hills of Abel Tasman Park, was spectacular at dusk.
Zoe Alborn, the manager, runs a fine ship, as we say in the States. I hope to return to Hooked on Marahau again.
Had a wonderful New Year's Eve dinner at Hooked on Marahau (31 Dec 2011!) and loved it - we had great service from Zoe and her lovely staff and enjoyed scrummy food in a gorgeous setting. Would recommend this place - have returned and will return again!
As visitors from the UK and accommodation in the area we took advice from locals and dined at Hooked on Marahau. Zoe and her staff were very welcoming. The view over the bay was beautiful, with a breathtaking sunset. The menu offered a good selection of locally sourced fish, seafood, meats and vegetarian dishes. There was a suitable selection of both starters and desserts. A good choice of wine was available by the glass or the bottle. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent - so much so that we returned the following night.
My wife ad I were visitors to the Tasman area and discovered that Hooked on Marahau was a quality restaurant. Our first impression was its beautiful location by the sea shore at the very edge of the Abel Tasman Park. Parking was easy. Our reception from the staff was cheerful and very friendly. The menu provided us with a pleasing range of options - seafood, local produce and meat dishes. When the food came, it was a delight as was the wine. The service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A newly opened waterfront cafe/bar/ restaurant with great views of Golden Bay from friendly Marahau (at the start of Abel Tasman National Park). Great seafood, reasonably priced and friendly. Really liked it.

We loved it there! We went to dinner but it was so good that we decided to go back the next day for breakfast and lunch as well. Fantastic under all perspectives!
After completing the Abel Tasman track, me and my girlfriend popped in here for a bite to eat and to clench our thirst. To start off we were greeted by a friendly Australian called Scottie. We had a great chat as my girlfriend was also from “down under”.
Me and my girlfriend decided to order two pints of the local brewed pale ale which was absolutely delightful.
We then decided to order some of the muscles and snapper fish as after our trek, we had built up quite the appetite.
We enjoyed our beer with the ocean views and was pleasantly surprised with how quick the food arrived. The food looked incredible and tasted even better. Unfortunately me and my girlfriend were so hungry we didn’t even think to take a photo! I can assure you though it was absolutely fantastic.
It was tasty and filling. I would highly recommend the snapper fish dish particularly, as keen fish eaters we were very impressed.
Overall fantastic experience, if you’re looking for good quality food, great beer and great service this is without doubt the place to go.
Really good breakfast burgers, smoothies, cold brew coffee. Everything we had was delicious. Excellent beer garden too for when the sun's out! Happy hour 4-6 makes it even better.
Love this place. Had to make the trip to stop here for lunch. Shared the beauty of this quaint restaurant with the family and not disappointed. Food was as perfect as it was 2 years ago on my last visit. Good variety. Vegetarian options. Good coffee. Located near water activities so perfect for after hike or kayak. Wheelchair access and great ablutions facilities. Retail shop next door for anything extra needed.
We ended up here last weekend, decided to have lunch, everything was delicious. I had the Ceviche and was probably the best I've ever had. My husband had the Korean Chicken which he enjoyed and we shared a small fries. Really perfect fries and served piping hot, more than we could eat. Excellent coffee too. Lovely service staff, everything perfect. We'll definitely be back.
Delicious food with original flavour combinations that turn a simple bruschetta or a classic fish and chips into a feast. The coffee is great and they also have beautiful cabinet food. The service is always friendly and the views from the front of the restaurant are stunning. Highly recommend it!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Hooked on Marahau! Started with the delicious warm bread and butter — so good! For mains we had fish & chips and a pan-fried snapper (catch of the day) — they were both cooked to perfection. And to round out our lovely evening, we had such kind and friendly service throughout. I definitely recommend Hooked to anyone in the area!
A really chilled vibe but with great food and a good selection of drinks. The outdoor seating area has something for everyone, sea views out the front and a pub garden feel at the back. Be sure to get a Sprig&Fern at happy hour.
The food was much better than expected from a place in a small town with a captive audience from the campsite. Staff we professional and efficient. We went twice, once for a late light lunch and the other for a big evening meal after a three day trip round Abel Tasman. My only criticism is that the puddings are a bit style over substance, beautifully presented but not a lot for the amount you pay. I preferred the berry brownie I got during our first visit that was only $3.50 to the mango meringue dessert which was $15.00, only one scoop of sorbet and one small piece of pouched meringue. Stick to the main course, the steak was fantastic!
Happy hour from 4-6pm.
We had the small plate sampler which was a generous amount of food for two. They gave us bread instead of ceviche, but we ended up with the bread on the house which was very generous! The fresh baked bread was delicious, I’m glad we got to try it. Everything on the platter was tasty and would happily order again.
Staff are attentive and friendly. Highly recommend. Last table for dining is seated at 6:30pm.
So go in time for happy hour 😁
Beautiful view from the Cafe. Both inside & outside sitting arrangements available.
