Six years after the horrendous experience at this restaurant, I decided to risk my life to try this place again. The quality of food has improved by miles. I tried the duck breast. The purple cabbage and potatoes garnished with raspberries created a remarkable contrast in taste, but not over the top. The duck breast was cooked just right, not too tough. The only criticism is the uneven marination. One piece was overly salty while the other piece was rather bland. The tiramisu gateau was the greatest surprise, simple but scrumptious!

Recently changed of management and menu. Food not as good as before. They have entertainment book 1 for 1 free deal, so might be a good choice if you go Matakana for a day trip.

Came here for our friend’s wedding. The restaurant has a modern and clean look to it, which serves as the perfect backdrop for any themed event. The scenery is also to die for.

I was impressed at how fast the service was. The serving size was very generous. Everything was delicious: the highlights for me include the avocado & feta smash, and the cumin lamb. They also have a lovely selection of wines. The rose panna cotta & spiced sponge for desserts were also very interesting.

Would love to come back again for other items on the menu :)

Lovely dinner this evening. Generous starter of local breads and with a wonderful carrot with capsicum spread. Followed by the very impressive Japanese pancake. The addition of the wasabi infused oil was genius. It gave the dish an amazing lift. We finished up with the cheese board which included again a generous array of cheese crackers bread dried fruit fruit pate and my fav the freshly made take on a Florentine. Almonds pistachios in a wonderful crunchy toffee mix. The wine I had with the Japanese pancake was the runner duck Pino Gris which was as usual wonderful. I accompanied the cheese board of kapiti cheddar and blue plus a soft cheese with the taylors port. Great combination. Will definitely be back again. Congrats to the chef, and front of house for making this a very enjoyable evening.

Really delicious food, with equally good wine. I got their lamb with Couscous that was on their menu when we went in May, and hubby got one of their Indian curries - both dishes were very tasty. I didn’t expect any Indian dishes at an vineyard restaurant, and definitely didn’t expect it to taste authentic, but there you go. My lamb was succulent and perfectly cooked with no one flavour overpowering the dish. A menu that everyone can enjoy 😊

Beautiful restaurant location and scenery. We entered and was taken to our table. It wasn’t busy when we arrived but started to fill up soon later. I had pre-booked and asked for a nice little area for my partner and I as it was my partners birthday. We were seated by the window and it was a lovely spot, as it was quite intimate. The lights were dim and it was very lovely as we had some privacy.
We were offered some seared beef. Not sure of the name but it was lovely.

I ordered the
• Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancakes)
• Meatballs of the day
• Vineyard Trio

My partner ordered
• Vension Pie
• Crispy Duck Leg
• Sticky Date Pudding
Wine
• Runner Duck Passion

I loved my Okonomiyaki. The combination was beautiful.
The Meatball of the day was made with coconut cream and noodles. I was really looking forward to this but it really didn’t please me, however my partner liked it. I felt it was missing something and wished I ordered something else, but this was my first experience so it’s not stopping me to come here again.
The Vineyard Trio was a lovely dessert. The gelato was delicious, and all flavours worked well.

My partners Entree, Main and Dessert was all delicious. However I felt that his main which was the Crispy Duck Leg, didn’t seem like a main. The flavours were lovely but didn’t seem to be enough filling for the wraps.
However his dessert was delicious and they had written happy birthday as requested.

Overall my experience here was lovely.
The waitresses and waiters were all lovely and provided great service. We were also approached by the head chef which was a quite nice of him. Never been visited by a head chef of a lovely restaurant before so it was nice to talk to him.

Was able to be seated at lunch without a booking. The vegetable curry was great, lots of vegetables, mild spiciness, came with salad, rice and papadams, decent portion size. Menu is affordable (curry was $27, glass of wine was $10), wines are good. Very enjoyable.

Came here over the weekend. A nice lunch of Pork Belly & Soba noodles, my husband had the curry. Pork Belly was divine and the curry was AMAZING! My daughter however had the nuggets & chips - the nuggets were burnt to a crisp but no real complaints here as most of her food ends up on the floor anyway. We will definitely be back again as the service was fantastic. The guy who took our order was SO NICE! Go you guys!

The perfect spot to spend a long lazy afternoon! The Plume Vineyard platter for two at $60 is good value for money. You so often get platters that is a bit on the scant side, not so at Plume. Couple that with good wine and great service and you have a winner!

Superb~ Plume must be the best restaurant in Matakana~ With a wide range of wine and food available this is a must go for people visiting Matakana. Service was excellent with staff catering to all our needs and provided us with options.
The pita bread and dip was better than their normal bread n dip.
The market fish i had was the hoki fish, cooked to perfection and scrumptious, also blends well with the sauces and mushroom.

Aged beef eye fillet is a must eat if you are a beef lover, the duck fat potato is amazing paired with the beef.
LAMB SHANK, braised, smoked potato mash, ratatouille jus, winter greens

Plume must be one of the best restaurants in Matakana. It was almost full on a Saturday evening.  We were greeted by cheerful wait staff at the door & were led to our pre-booked table. The tables around were not jammed but put within comfortable distance apart.
We were then offered amuse-bouche which was seared venison with sangria compote.  We ordered soup of the day which was cream of mushroom & beef roulade. Both were nicely done. I had crispy duck leg, mandarin pancake, etc., which was the"signature dish from 2010." It was very similar to the Chinese Peking duck, except: 1) it used the whole duck leg and not just the skin; 2) even it was called crispy duck, but it wasn't crispy at all; 3) pieces of pancakes were thick & dry, & 4) garnishes like pancake, spring onion, cucumber, hoisin sauce were copies of the Asian counterpart, but was not a successful production. On the positive side, Asian slaw were added to provide more tastes.  Further more, I think knife & fork were definitely not convenient utensils for this main.  My wife had venison bistro fillet which was served medium rare. Bailey cheese cake with mixed nut crumble & fruit compote, as dessert, was good - although a bit more Bailey flavour will be even better.

Beautiful well presented and very tasty food, great wine. Fast service. The atmosphere was lacking warmth and felt a little uncomfortable with no heating, the quiet empty restaurant on a Saturday afternoon did not help.

Utterly superb! Great selection of wines - delicious sweet Pinot Gris, beautiful ambience and great waiters/waitresses who are not overly pushy and polite. Remember to book in advance especially if you are going on the weekend! The dishes were delicious. The Prawn Peri Peri was beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection - the Potato Gnoccis had the texture of little soft pillowy clouds - as good as I had while over in Europe! Brilliant balance of flavour! As for the dessert - Dark Chocolate Pave is a must. Rich yet not very sweet! Comes with a grape sorbet (which doesn't taste like the usual artifical grape either)! A must!

Had a lovely degustation lunch using a grab one voucher last weekend. Each of our meals were presented immaculately and taste was wonderful. For less than $100 for 2 people for 6 courses in such a lovely setting it is hard to beat. Highly recommend a day trip up north especially with one of their voucher offers which seem to pop up often.

Had an immaculate and exuberant dining experience last night.

Ambience of the restaurant is very quaint and serene. They had a great selection in wines and food on their menu.

We thoroughly savoured the food we ordered... starting from a well baked pizza bread, yummy mushroom risotto to delicious mango pannacota & creme brulee.

The customer service was incredible too. The service staffs and host were warm and interactive.

I'll be visiting the place again. It is highly recommended for a fine dining exp6.

Not as good as we had hoped. Went for their degustation lunch. They missed one of our dishes completely :/ The service was lacking. We had to ask to see the drinks menu, and weren't attended to very well. Food was nice but didn't knock your socks off. I recommend finding out whether their manager is onsite before booking, as I have been told she is excellent.

Plume Restaurant had a deal on Grabone for a 6 course degustation meal. Being the foodie that I am I roped my friend into experiencing it with me!

Matakana is such a cute little town just out of Auckland and the restaurant - perfect as it was situated out of all the hussle and bussle which you get in Auckland.

Plume is oa lovely winery with a great view of the vineyard. The restaurant was nice and would be perfect in the summer. When my friend and I got there, there were no seats outside so we managed to get a seat right next to the window. It was a sunny day when we went and the sun was shining right where we were sitting - perfect.

Degustation: our first course was a lovely tomato and lentil soup. It was a good starter and warmed the tummy for the next course! Our second course was a venison dish. We both had never tried venison before so we were excited and nervous at the same time. The venison came thinly sliced and slightly seared on the sides. First impression of the dish was eeek raw meat! But the meat wasn't too bad when eaten with the other components of the dish. Our third course was salmon. YUM - I love salmon and was looking forward to it. The fish was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth! It came with a beetroot purée and tangy relish which complemented the fish well. Our fourth course was a pork belly dish. This was also a highlight meal. The crackling crackled in my mouth as I ate and the meat was also tender and juicy. By this point my friend and I were both stuffed! But we knew we had to find that space to fit dessert in! Our fifth dish was a palette cleanser of mango sorbet, which was refreshing after the hearty meals we ate. Our final and sixth meal was dessert - I can't quite remember what this was called but it had the same consistency as a panne cotta and was absolutely delightful to eat. It was a great finish to our meal.

By the end we were both so full but very satisfied with the overall experience. It was my first degustation meal and I have to say that it was a great start to many more! I'll be back to try the other delicious meals on the menu :)

This is a restaurant in a vineyard. They have amazing outdoor seating. Unfortunately when we visited we did not book for a table so we were seated indoor with no view whatsoever.

The food is above average. We had kiddy fish and chips (in a basket), kiddy toastie, jumbo noodle, curry prawns with Indian rice and trio lamb. I liked the noodle and prawns.
The grape juice from their own vineyard was so wonderful, sweet with strong grape aroma. It is not cheap though. They charged for $7 per small bottle.

A good restaurant to try out.

We arrived close to closing time, but they were very kind accommodating us.
We had mains only. The lamb and the duck.
First of all, the grape juice made by Runner Duck Estate is amazing. If you aren't drinking alcohol, get it.
The rose was good and reasonably priced until I smashed the glass onto the table!
The lamb was good. 4/5.
The crispy duck leg was outstanding. 5/5.
I had a coffee, it was excellent. 5/5.
Gelato was really good too. In fact REALLY good.
Only thing was the service staff were a little inexperienced. 3/5. But nice enough and very pleasant.
It wasn't cheap. 36 bucks a main, but I'd say worth it. I'd go again for sure.

I came here on a Grabone voucher, which many of the other patrons appeared to have done too - it's a clever way to fill the restaurant during those winter months, and was certainly worth the value. It was a windy and rainy day, and I can see if would have been a stunning place in the summer. Still, we were wrapped up warm and the heaters did their job well.

The food was genuinely delicious - I had the lamb rack and the creme brûlée and both were wonderful. The lamb was perfectly cooked and baked in a sharp mustard-breadcrumb coating, and the creme brûlée cracked as it's supposed to do. I would definitely come again!

Once we got past the "do you have a voucher" question being asked multiple times (we didn't, we were "full fare") things got better.

Food was good, Terrine perhaps a bit dry however their rendition of Peking Duck was great.

Good decor, had a private dining room that looked like it would be a nice spot for a group meal.

They were aware it was my wife birthday, might have been nice if they had acknowledged it, nothing major, just would have been a nice touch.

Another great night out at Plume Restaurant.
We arrived early and were accommodated straight away.
Pleasantly pleased with the acoustics of the main room. It had been cleverly crafted to reduce noise.
Selection of local breads, good. Grained loaf and I presume ciabata very very good, but third loaf not too sure. Still good but not as good as other two. Pesto lovely.
Main courses of venison and lamb were both excellent. The finish on both, exact and perfectly cooked to our tastes. This is the second time we have had these dishes and they are probably the best we have had compared to other top Auckland Restaurants.
The desserts of sorbet and cheesecake again were very good. The cheesecake was exceptional. Light and airy with the right amount of bite from the passion fruit dressing. Apart from perhaps want of a bit more fruit with it I could not find fault.
The sorbet was very good. The two sorbet  fruit options were excellent but I found the chocolate version a bit out of sorts. As someone who likes citrus and not so much the sweet, this is my taste. It was however very chocolaty and moreish according to my husband. The wine from the estate especially the Sav was exceptional and as one who likes and normally only drinks Pino Gris this surprised me. More so that it went incredibly well with the Venison. I would have thought the local red would have been better with it, but tried both and the Sav won out heartily. Very surprising!
We will be back again.

Came here for lunch with another five other people. Beautiful setting, sadly a bit windy on our day. The service was very good and so was the food. I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, the wine was also very nice. I got the crispy duck leg which was awesome, very nice, duck cooked to perfection. Haven't had that good since the really top Chinese restaurants in the UK. Tried the Salmon which was also very good.

Roughly $35 a main and probably best to get a bottle if every one is thinking the same wine. Nice place to pop up for a meal away from Auckland on a beautiful day. Will certainly recommend and will be back.

I came here with a grabone voucher for 2 mains, 2 desert and 2 glasses of wine, it was worth it. Starting from the mains, we had a lamb and beef, which were both beautifully cooked. for desert, we ordered a poppy seed & manuka honey semi freddo, and gelato. The semifreddo was very interesting and very creamy, it is something new for me as I have not had this kind of desert before. For wine, we both ordered rose wine, which is not as strong as the other wines. But I can't critic their wine because i dont drink wine myself. I would definitely return. Absolutely loved this restaurant.

We probably came during a bad time- we were told there was a wedding reception at 1:30pm so our lunch experience felt a bit mixed. l Service was friendly and efficient, and our mains were enjoyable though not particularly memorable.

New Zealand Scallops- I was not expecting this for my main, it was like a fish pie, only without the fish. I wouldn’t recommend having scallops this way, it was bland, texture-less, and a sad testimony to the beautiful shellfish.

Duck Breast- I think this was the best dish of them all, the sauce was rich and bursting with flavour, the spring roll was loaded and crunchy, and the duck breast was cooked perfectly medium rare.

Thai Green Curry- was loaded with vegetables which was good, but the flavour was definitely not that of an authentic curry.

Chicken Breast- This was a nice main as well, but again not amazing.

The Creme brulee unfortunately had a curdled texture, but the churros were great, and the molten lava cake was decadent, rich, and simply divine. The trio of ice cream was beautifully plated.

There were good and disappointing dishes, but it was quite nice overall.

Dined at Plume Restaurant for a special occasion on Fri 06.06.14, using a deal voucher. Were accommodated wonderfully by friendly staff with nothing being too much trouble, including allowing us to move tables from the kitchen noise to a quieter spot (thank goodness for a cancellation!). We were informed of our vouchers entitlements and also explained to about the wine options in great detail, which was lovely... as we are a fan of these wines, it was nice to hear the staff really knew their stuff! The main meals were fabulous and I was happy with the generous serve in terms of the lamb rack, my partners venison was mostly cooked well, however it seemed the medallions did differ in how much they were each cooked, from very medium to very very rare - not sure if that was on purpose or not? The menu looked as though it was written especially for our tastes, so we will be back to sample some other options when time, kids and $$ allow! The desserts were A1 and I am not a huge sweet fan, so was surprised I enjoyed my cheesecake so much, my partner however did struggle a little with the chocolate mousse as it was very very rich. Wine was outstanding and service great also. Thank you Plume for a memorable evening. Overall, very happy with Plume, we are local, so we enjoy it very much when local places really step up to the mark!

Our party of four booked in at Plume for lunch, and we were thoroughly pleased with our choice. The staff were excellent, attentive, and friendly. We ordered a range of mains, and deserts, and all were excellent. The meal portions were good, the presentation was brilliant, and most importantly, the food taste was delightfully flavoursome. The restaurant was busy, which did result in the meal service being a bit slow, a minor issue though as the setting, the wine, and the good company compensated.
We will be returning soon, and we all recommend Plume without question.

We went to Plume on Saturday night and had a lovely evening. When I booked, I said it was our wedding anniversary and they had reserved us a table by the window. The food was divine - I can HIGHLY recommend the crispy rabbit pancakes. My husband had the steak (decent size!) and I had the lamb - gorgeous. Both pricey but we were aware of this before hand, plus Plume is in the Entertainment Book so we got one main free (at $38 that made quite a dent in the bill!)
We shared a chocolate desert and I had a couple of glasses of the syrah - $12 a glass seemed a standard price and it was a lovely wine. I would definitely recommend Plume for a special occasion - the service was great and the food delicious.

Plume-for weddings, birthdays, and any special occassions-this venue would be hard to beat!
We had our wedding reception there and want to thank Plume for making our special day so outstanding and a memorable day not only for us,but also for our guests.

The decor, layout and table settings were fantastic and gave Plume an exceptionally warm and classic atmosphere. The entree and dessert consisted of a taste of a number of different delicacies-our guests had a lovely time working out what morsel corresponded to the name on the menu. Not only did they taste great, there was plenty to eat, they were a great source of conversation and a work of art.Our guests are still talking about it-even our 'foodie'experts."This meal rivalled anything found in greater Auckland.

The staff were outstanding and attentive to all our guests but not intrusive. They were very accommodating to our wishes and truly made it "our day".Our reception was worth every cent and we are happy to recommend Plume as a great venue for any special occasion.

Plume is a little gem found just before the little town of Matakana. I have eaten there on a few occasions but last week's lunch was a feast for the palette.

We started off with some tidbits which involved the prawn patio on crostini and the jalapenos. The portions were decently sized and the food itself delicious.

I had the main that I would normally have at this place - I can't bring myself to try something else as I just can't get over the taste of this dish. The crispy rabbit in mandarin pancakes is an innovate pleasure and the decorative method in which it is displayed always attracts me to it. My friends had the akuri on toast and the steak sandwich, which they also thoroughly enjoyed.

We ended with the fabulous dessert menu - we shared some creme brulee, churos, and the famous Magia Bevi - sometimes I feel like I would just drive up north for 40 minutes just for this dessert - a delicious blend of fruits, nuts, ice cream, and a small touch of alcohol to add some extra flavour.

It was a pleasure to talk to the staff who were helpful and catered to our many needs.

While I am not a red wine drinker, I have heard wonderful raves about the Runner Duck Syrah and Red blend - there was plenty of choice for white wines and a delicious grape juice available.

I will definitely be making more trips to this lovely restaurant and hope to someday experiment and try out some more of their delicious dishes.

From the warmth of the interior and service through to the last mouthful of dessert this restaurant did not disappoint. We would totally recommend the Rillette of Pork and Duck and the Three Cheese Souffle and the Runner Duck Estate's Syrah was a wee surprise. Fabulous Cuisine, superb wine, picturesque tranquil location. I have been dining here with clients for many years and recommend Plume Vineyard Restaurant without hesitation. Farida and the crew are brilliant and this place is a must see/must do!

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. The restaurant has a new chef and it shows. The food is next level and you almost forget that that you aren’t in Auckland with the high quality of the food! These views will remind you of where you are though, with the amazing landscape. I had the Scallops with white asparagus, shitake, onion dashi, lardo as a starter. It was absolutely delicious! Absolute umami bomb! My husband had the smoked beetroot cranky goat curd, green gooseberry, buckwheat, beetroot ferment. Great combination of flavours and beautifully presented. Again out of this world, and absolutely delicious. For mains I had the kiwi fish catch (John Dory) chilli prawns, seeds, curried beurre Blanc. I can’t rate this dish highly enough, I’m dreaming of it now and already planning my next visit! 10/10! Please if you go, order this dish, you won’t be disappointed. My husband had the Easterbrook farm duck breast orasfarm lionsmane, leg potato roulade, buttermilk shoyu. Well seasoned, nice and pink and the skin was rendered beautifully. 10/10 Desserts I had Annabelle sheep milk cake, milk crisp, hickory and bay leaf ice cream. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I am glad I ordered it, it was beautiful. Hubby had Coconut millefeuille, fermented grape, fig leaf, whiskey snap, absolute perfection. We had the dessert wine, which you must try, it was a great match. If you are looking for somewhere new to try, make this the place to go. The food was outstanding and hopefully like me your new favourite destination restaurant.

The food was very delicious, most notably the chocolate mousse. That is one of the best desserts I’ve had in my entire life. You must try it if you dine here. Also try the steak with mushroom sauce - very good! The staff was very nice, although we waited over 30 minutes between our entrees and mains. Between that and no outdoor seating the night we went, I’m giving 4 stars. But the food is certainly 5 stars!

Double anniversary lunch, celebrated 32 and 10 years. I’d decided to invite my wife’s parents to have a joint lunch and we being located in Whangarei, and they would travel from Titirangi, I’d suggested we meet half way, and Plume was what I thought was the best choice to choose from. And it was. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, overlooking the rolling hills and well kept gardens. The service was as relaxed and pleasant which complimented the space. The chefs were launching their new summer menu, so with that, we were aware that there were a few nerves behind the scenes, however, entree, mains and desserts were delicious. Presentation of the meals as expected, but not over the top. Each element on the plates had its purpose and my eye fillet was bang on, Hapuka the same and the vegetarian options were delicious and the kitchen was more then happy to accommodate my mother in law’s deity requests. Our 3 year old enjoyed his meal choices and enjoyed his grape juice. The local wines that are available were a lovely match and we enjoyed our time at Plume so much, the 4 hours flew by very quickly. One little observation, with the light breeze we did have, as well as a fairly overcast day, the heat and sunshine that shone through the clear roofing panels was pretty tense at times, maybe some blinds or louvre? but other then that, price was on point, and there is talk of doing it again soon. Highly recommended.

Love this place...everything was great. The food, service and friendly atmosphere were all top notch. We even made new friends with fellow diners sitting near us. Will definitely return. In fact, next weekend before we return to Australia....

My daughter and I spent 4 hours on the Plume property. We toured the modern cosy villas with beautiful views; each room has its own ensuite. We daydreamed and talked about what it would be like to live on such an amazing property. We listened to the birds, walked through the well-manicured gardens, and felt so much peace in this dreamy setting. The high point was our meal at the Plume restaurant. The service was 5-star as we sat on the patio enjoying a refreshing and smooth bottle of Alberino and a colourful charcuterie board, comprised of assorted cured meat, sourdough, lacto-fermented vegetables, chutneys, nuts and a plate of smoked beetroot. For our mains, we had snapper and prawns, and Forest fungi ravioli, with fromage, koji custard, smoked mushroom garum, and trout roe. To top it all off we ended with sweet delights, a selection of good Honest Chocolat, locally made in Matakana and lemon tart, raspberry, miso anglaise ice cream. We recommend Plume and all it has to offer to those who seek restaurant venue hire or business conference venues. This is the place!

Good food and wine in a beautiful and peaceful environment. Well deserves its rating as the best restaurant in the area. With its own cellar door you'll also have the chance to try a variety of wines as a very low price. Recommended.

We went along to Plume Restaurant while staying at the adjacent villas and ordered the tasting menu. Overall the food was good however a couple of minor things that compounded. The food was good however we both left feeling a bit hungry still. It was definitely a tasting menu not nessecarily one to fill us both us. The service was fairly avg and a bit hit and miss. The main waiter we had was good, yet the other one it felt like he didn’t really care. The venue is lovely and in a very picturesque setting. We sat outside and I’d recommend you do too during summer. It was humming and turned over the tables. Would I go back - probably but only w a changed menu. They could go a bit further and make it easier to pair the wines w the dishes. It does feel a bit tired and could do w some “refreshed” views. Hence 4/5

Plume is by far one of the best vineyard restaurants I have even been to. From the minute you enter this place it’s completely mesmerising. We were greeted by Farida and she was awesome. The service was world class and the food was amazing. Upon farida’s recommendation we tried the duck and it was superb. The lamb was excellent as well. I love the flavours and the uniqueness of their food. Deserts were delightful. The views were breath taking and overall experience was outstanding. It’s definitely worth visiting ! A complete experience

Great meal & lovely spot. Lunch here after a morning at the matakana markets. We had artisan breads, Hapuka, pork belly, all amazing & great service too. We didn't book so were seated inside by the window. Good spot & less noisy than in the covered outdoor area.

We were lucky enough to attend Plume's NZ Beef and Lamb dinner over the weekend - where BJ the chef, and his team - created an amazing degustation menu using many parts of the animal(s). It was all delicious - the standouts for me were the steak tartare (exceptional), and the lamb rack (melt in the mouth tender). The meal was well matched with their Runner Duck reds. Service was very good - attentive but discreet. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
