My partner and I ordered the mushrooms on toast, smashed avo on toast, both with a side of hash browns. And each had a decaf cappuccino. I really liked my mushrooms on toast. Hash brown was nice, and coffee was good. The avo was okay, toast was a bit thick and a little hard to cut. Otherwise nice! Was good to have a local cooked breakfast. Would go again! Cheers
Absolutely outstanding. Great coffee. DELICIOUS food! Cooked to perfection despite being extremely busy. One of the best breakfasts of my life. Get the lambs fry with poached eggs you won't regret it! Wow!

We went for lunch - good selection in the cabinet but we wanted something fresh. Ordered fish and chips plus a couple of drinks. We sat inside which was a little stuffy but not unpleasant. They had a highchair available but they didn't seem to mind our boy staying on his trike. The chips were a bit heavy on the salt but otherwise perfect - enough for 2 people. But, the fish - OMG - it was absolutely to die for! I suspect it was snapper, a good sized piece too which more than made up for the $6 price tag. It was in a lovely light a batter that must've had chives (well, something green!) to flavour it. Staff were friendly - we had originally asked for something that wasn't available that time of day & they were apologetic that they couldn't accommodate our request but we were not worried (... Wondered whether they get some grumpy or demanding customers?) The next day, when talking about the meal, we both wished we could have another piece of that fish! Mmmm! Pass on the secret to a Hamilton fish and chip place, please!
Enjoyed a quiet mid-week lunch here. Cabinet options or Lunch menu options incl. nachos, tacos, dumplings, salads, a variety of burgers to choose from, etc. Two outdoor dining areas sit in. Beers on tap, or lots of locals with their take-away coffees. We enjoyed chicken burger and the pork burger. Decent size burgers. Delicious tap beer. Staff were friendly. Would recommend dining here. (They also had a takeaway menu too)
First time coming and it was great!! Lovely staff and building, very welcoming and friendly. The food was fantastic, tasted absolutely amazing and the presentation was so pretty!! My coffee was also great which was a nice surprise :] Only thing I'd say is maybe play a bit calmer music to fit the vibe of the place but other than that it's perfect!!
Good value for money and fast service. Coffee was lovely - would recommend coming here if you are after fish & chip shop type food. As a FYI - the owners have changed within the last few months.
The best home made baked goods I've had at a cafe - biggest, yummiest afghans! Best coffee. Tasty pizzas, really good breakfast with quality ingredients. Matarangi is lucky to have this place:)
Really good breakfast, excellent coffee and great vibe with cool music playing. Beautifully presented meals, they do half portions for kids. Waffles were well enjoyed!
What a lovely little gem of a cafe, every food item we demolished was delicious and felt prepared with care by the staff. Definitely recommend the kumara fries especially, they are on point 👌 my thai beef salad was perfectly seasoned/dressed and my husband's burger was monster-sized! We went back the next day for a second go and had another successful meal from the cabinet (chicken mushroom pie, and chicken cream cheese roll), along with some more kumara fries to go ðŸ¤

Really loved going to Pipers everyday during our visit to Matarangi. The food & coffee was amazing! I also loved the bar, there was live music there one night and we all enjoyed sitting outside having a drink, it’s a great set up. Highly recommend!
The carrot cake here is out of this world good. Amazing texture, incredible icing. A must try when in Matarangi
