Best pub food ever! Our go to and one of our favourites. Always happy with their food! Can be busy but they always deliver with standard. Thumbs up!
Always love going out for a meal at Clare Inn. I usually have the chicken pasta and my boyf gets beef Wellington or steak. Well cooked meals, great portion size, friendly service and tasty food. It would be great if the management did a thorough clean of the walls/corners downstairs as there are cobwebs close to the tables.
We were close by and hungry so popped in here for late lunch/snack... old fashioned quaint old Irish Pub... abit musty smelling but friendly staff.
We ordered:
Beef burger
Fish sliders
Both dishes were yummy... piping hot food and tasty not greasy..
My only complaint would be not to serve up food on a board that had a big open split
Wow! Just wow!
Clare Inn has taken pub food to the next level. Some higher end restaurants couldn't even beat their food standards, I'm sure!
We had the Special of the Day, Grilled Snapper and Beef Wellington. Both were delicious, well balanced, and came in ideal-sized portions.
This award-winning bar has exceptional food offerings, fantastic vibes and good service. What else could you ask for?
Highly recommended. And we'll be back!
I was expecting a standard pub with standard pub food but this place really surprised me! Very good food, I had their pasta which was so yum. And also very friendly owners.
Had a group Sunday dinner at the weekend just gone. There are some great pub grub and sunday dinner options on offer. The food is great pub food very filling and tasty. We all had the beef Wellington which went down well ,a chicken breast that was tasty and lots of it. And I had the Sunday roast which was fab, well cooked meat and the best option imo 😊the staff are super friendly and attentive throughout the meal as we all had a few pints. The only drawback is there is a slight wait on the dinner but it was worth it.
Had a lovely lunch here today. We were greeted by friendly people, seated and given menus right away.
We ordered from the lunch menu and it was fantastic. The food is so well presented and the portion sizes are extremely generous.
The sticky pork ribs were so tender, the meat just slid off the bones with a slight touch. The meat just melted in your mouth and was full of flavour. Generous servings of fries and coleslaw to accompany the meat. Also they give you a lemon hand wash for the ribs.
The sausages and mash with whiskey gravy was an absolute delight. They were generous with the whole plate! Plenty of sausages, a waterfall of sauce, a mountain of whole grain mustard and the highlight for me was the mashed potatoes. By far the best mashed potato I've ever eaten. 5 stars for the mashed potato.
I love the cosy feel, the Irish music and the lovely staff. Next time when its not raining I would definitely like to sit upstairs in the outdoor area!
Thanks for a delightful and satisfying lunch Clare Inn!
beer is great! good place to hang out with friends. I tried low cooked lame, it is very delicious, if the side is some vegetable salad it will be even great! Nice food and staff, will visit again.
Called in here today Thursday 9 Nov 2017 for a cool & tasty Guinness. Althentic looking pub on the outside & inside - very relaxing & cosy Didn't eat here so can't review the food.
I really do love Clare Inn, it's a nice little Irish pub on the busy Dominion Road Street. It's exterior was a simple black design with Irish flags hanging on top of the roof. The interior feels very cozy and Irish and there were dining tables, pub tables and coffee tables for all different types of customers. The whole place is often crowded with people. They have different events going on every single day of the week which makes it more refreshing to dine at different days. The wait staff are all very friendly and hard working.
The have a variety of European cuisines as well as some more exotic fusions. I love their beef sliders, they were really tasty and also enjoyable to look at. If you want some authentic Irish/English cuisines then Clare Inn is a must try.
Great service, friendly staff and excellent food. Had beef wellington and duck leg. Warm atmosphere in cold weather. Highly recommend ~~~~~~
Great little spot for Sunday Lunch - we were celebrating with a large group of people upstairs and this replicated traditional family oriented 'Sunday Lunch' perfectly. I have a couple of pics below of the Beef & Stout Wellington, green pea & smoked pork purée, grain mustard, potato mash, guinness reduction. And the Slow Roasted Lamb shoulder rack, choux potatoes, mint pesto, smoked tomato ratatouille. The lamb was so tender it literally fell off the bone. This was good quality hearty English Pub food. This is home away from home food.
Score based purely for the quality of the food, the beef Wellington was amazing!
Venue is probably good if your Irish and play Gaelic football
The quality pub food is the main reason to eat or drink here, as it's tasty, fresh, generous and certainly better than what most other Irish pubs offer for meals in Auckland. It reminds me of how good the food was in actual pubs in Ireland when I last visited in 2012 although it's slightly more pricey than some of the competition locally.
The waiters and bar staff are moderately friendly if a little withdrawn towards non-regulars but do attend to seated diners in a quick and helpful manner. They have live music on Fridays, and a seated indoors smokers area upstairs under an awning. The drinks selection is standard fare for an Irish pub, and not particularly varied though one could not expect it to be as this pub is small and cozy. Every meal I have had here has been good especially pasta dishes.
The Clare Inn are in the Entertainment Book where you can purchase one main and get the second main of equal or lower value value for free. First impressions on walking in are pretty low - just looks like a typical pub! Head to the left where the dining area is located, and you can take a seat, where it's nice and warm and cozy especially during winter. We ordered Beef & Stout Wellington, and Slow Cooked Crispy Duck. Absolutely delicious! The duck was cooked perfectly, and the Rosemary jam was a great addition for flavour. For dessert, we had the Apple Pie - tasted like it was home made, but was just not big enough! Will definitely come back again next year, though full price for the meals at any other time would be worth it as well. Service was very friendly and the pub atmosphere made the whole place feel homely.
We have dined here twice, food was great both times. The duck is amazing, the sauce, the crispy skin (photo does not do it justice). We also had the lamb rack which was good. Recommendation would be to not come on a night that an eden park game was on of youre looking for a quiet meal. It took about 40 min for the food to come out but was worth the wait

This is a typical irish bar BUT with surprisingly great food.
We had chicken wings, burger & lamb shoulder rack(not pictured)
Everything was great.
Service was friendly enough and the atmosphere was fine for a pub.. Perfect for an evening in the Guinness but maybe a bit too shabby for the lunch menu. But who cares really.
The wings are buffalo wings. And they are done really well. To nitpick- Sauce maybe slightly too buttery, some wings were over cooked and the oil in the fryer probably needed changed.. But all in all great.
The burger is really well put together, flavour combo is really clever. All sauces including cheese sauce(really cool alternative to simple melted cheese) all worked really well. Burger patty itself was a little greasy and the bun was not as fresh as it should be.. But again, nitpicking.
The lamb was tender, perfectly cooked and the sauce was amazing as were the potatoes. Also loved the addition of mint pesto- interesting and tastes amazing.
We ordered beef Wellington and lamb shoulder. The lamb is very good. Especially I like the cheese ball come with it. The beef Wellington is average. But the beef sauce is too rich.
However the table service Is too poor. We came here during lunch time. Only three tables here. But during one hour no one come to check us. I have to go to bar for two times for water and menu... So that is why I gave it 3.5
Nice little bar and restaurant on dominion road. I ordered the Caesar salad not sure if it was the bacon or chicken that was a little burnt but I quite enjoyed it. Friends had ordered other dishes on the menu and it looked amazing! Would go there again but maybe try something other than a Caesar Salad or Salad in general haha. Lovely service also.

Went for diner last night and was a good experience. The food is well presented and taste great. I chose the beef and stout wellington which was really good ! Will come back to try other dish for sure.
Went for lunch on a Saturday as a group of three. We were greeted by friendly staff at the counter as we came in, and had the pick of the room as it was a quiet afternoon. We had to have a Kilkenny each to suit the setting! I was starving and found myself tempted by a number of items on the menu. eventually I settled on the Chicken supreme, my partner had the Beef burger and our friend had the salt and chilli calamari. The food took a little while to arrive but it was beautifully presented. the calamari looked crispy but not too oily, and was my friend's go-to dish when she came here. The chicken was beautifully laid out along with the parsnip puree and the leek and feta pie. The chicken breast was still moist and not dry at all, and the puree and leek pie complemented each other really well. each component tasted amazing, and I was surprised as it was so much more than the 'pub food' that I was expecting. I had to really resist licking the plate clean, and even though the portions were of a very generous size and I was very full, I wanted another one!
We started with roasted chessy garlic rolls, duck liver pâté with toasted bread, caramelised onion & salad. A lovely start. For the mains, we had beef & stout wellington, slow-cooked crispy duck, slow-roasted lamb shoulder rack, and braised lamb belly with black pudding & chorizo stuffing and roasted lamb loin. All dishes were nicely cooked, well-plated & absolutely spot-on. Clare Inn's awards on its beef & lamb (in both 2014 & 2015) were well-deserved. It was my first time at Clare Inn for dinner; I should have gone sooner.
(Food - 5/5; Service 3.5/5; Ambience - 2/5)
We only go here for one dish!
BEEF WELLINGTON!!!!
I believe Clare Inn is the only place on Auckland that serves Beef Wellington??!
After long search I found this and i am glad I did..
Its not just the beef Wellington amazing their lamb dish is just as nicee...
Very fun atmosphere the service is always good!
Visited here on Sat.4thJuly for my birthday shout with30 guests. The food, the friendly efficient service and the warm and social atmosphere in their upstairs dining area was superb. We didn't miss the super rugby final either, as they have wall mounted TVs, less sound, available. The preparation and presentation of our meals was top class and the Kilkenny beer is choice.Thanks.Softy,Kumeu.
Where do I start? If you are looking for great atmosphere, amazing food, competitive prices, attentive and friendly staff who actually remember you when you return for a second visit... then look no further.
We have never had a bad visit at the Clare Inn. One of our favs, and will continue to be for a long time to come if they keep this up.
We heartily recommend the roast – when you can get one that is, they are pretty popular – however I have pretty much tried everything else on the menu and it is all top knotch. A great place to hang with mates on a Sunday.
We love your work Clare Inn, keep it up!
What a great pub/ restaurant to dine at!
Most of my pub dining experiences haven't been the greatest but Clare Inn has definitely changed my perspective of pub dining!
As soon as you walk in, feels like you're in the heart of a traditional Irish pub. Although I've never been to Ireland this restaurant really resembles a traditional tavern like space. Staff are very attentive.
The food is AMAZING! I got the Chicken Supreme and my friend got the Beef Wellington. This would be my first time tasting a Beef Wellington and I will definitely be back to try more, the pastry is light and crispy and the beef is nicely cooked. My chicken was moist went very well with the gravy which was very flavourful and delicious! Everything on the plate complimented each other and the presentation is on point!
Not the typical bland pub food I've experienced in my lifetime.
I would highly recommend and be back for more 😁
Excellent ambience with a true irish spirit. Went for a roasted duck last weekend; delicious and crisp.staff is ever welcoming ! Hop-in for a pint of guinness folk !
Had such a beautiful birthday meal here with friends! The beef wellington was amazing -although not quite the hearty traditional Wellington that I was expecting. I've been told by friends that most of the menu is gorgeous which is very good news as we will definitely be back! The Irish man is an absolute gem and looked after us all wonderfully. Thanks a lot
Can't praise the Clare Inn enough. The food is always amazing!
We often spend a Sunday evening enjoying a meal with friends at this cosy Irish pub. A great way to end the weekend.
The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and make you feel so welcome. A definite stop if in Mt Eden.
Visited here on a Friday evening, booking ahead (which was a good idea as they seemed pretty busy) and were seated immediately at a reserved table by a lovely Irish waiter. The atmosphere was very cosy, really nice place for a cold winter's night. For a starter we ordered the Potato Skins with Bacon, Sour Cream, Cheese and Tomato Salsa - these were absolutely delicious. Golden potato skins, heaps of melted cheese and a very generous topping of sour cream - yum! For mains we ordered the Beef & Stout Wellington with Green Pea & Smoked Pork Puree, Guiness Reduction and Hot Mustard (also came with mashed potato), and the Slow Roasted Duck with Confit Potatoes, Bok Choy, Calvados Sauce and Apple Jam. I have had the Beef Wellington on a previous visit but had forgotten how good it was - the beef was tender and so tasty, the pastry crisp and golden (I think it was filo) and the mash smooth and creamy. Also loved the Guinness reduction which was rich and full of flavour. The duck was also a winner - really nice flavour on the skin and cooked perfectly, and the potatoes were deliciously golden & crunchy. The Calvados sauce was really nice and rich too. Overall the service was great (the food seemed to come out really quick) and the atmosphere lovely - we'll definitely be back to try out some more of their delicious dishes :)
This place does some great food that you don't typically find on other menus in the vicinity. I recommend the potato skins and spicy buffalo chicken wings. So good!
First of all wonderful and friendly customer service! Came for lunch on Sunday, a group of 5 we ordered the famous beef wellington, pork sausage, slow-cooked crispy skin duck, chicken wings and the fish&chorizo croquettes. The food though takes a bit of time to reach the table but definitely worth the wait! Good flavours and beautiful plating, would go back for sure!
We had a group of ten for our Christmas dinner here and despite it being a busy night the staff were very attentive and friendly. There's a great atmosphere and the food was delicious, of note the calamari and the potato skins - and the crispy slow cooked duck was to die for. I will definitely be back! Thanks, Tanya from Total Admin
I wasn't sure what to expect from The Clare Inn because their menu seemed very ambitious but also reasonably priced. Everything was amazing, the best European/Pub food I have had an Auckland. I had the chicken which was cooked to perfection with delicious stuffing and my partner had the steak which he absolutely loved and compliments to the chef for keeping him happy!
The atmosphere was great and the staff were all lovely and happy to help but didn't hover around like seagull hurrying us along.
Will definitely be returning!
We stopped here for a Saturday lunch when the NRL 9's were on today. It was quiet but but not too quiet.
It's an Irish pub and it's actually owned by Irish people which was great. The atmosphere was relaxed but not grubby like some pubs and I found the eating area was actually quite plush.
I ordered the pasta of the day which was smoked chicken with mushrooms in a creamy Parmesan sauce. And my boyfriend had the pork and cider sausages with mash.
Our food arrived quickly and there was a lot of it! My pasta was amazing. Really creamy and rich with a light salad on top. The smoked chicken made the taste completely different to any penne you've had before. Michael's meal looked great too. I tried a bit of the sausage and mash and it was really tasty but his favourite part of the meal was the smoked tomato relish. This coming from a man who hates tomato.
The meal was priced at $46 for two meals and two Cokes. We were definitely full afterwards and it prices in around the same as going to Burger Fuel without the extra calories and chain feel.
I also have to mention that the man and woman manning the bar were super friendly and really lovely. I would definitely go back.
Had dinner at the clare inn last night, I went expecting pub food but the food here is so much better than that.
The lamb dish was recommended, best lamb I can ever remember having. My friends had the beef wellington and the chicken, both were just as happy as I was. We'll definitely be back.
We had dinner there again last night
The food is superb
The lamb rack is to die for
But be warned it is hard to choose
There are many great options
Staff is efficient and friendly
Try it
1st time here. Casual atmosphere old furniture, Irish accents everywhere. Efficient and good service. My wife's fillet steak was very rare and delicious sauce. My beef Wellington was lovely and rich, very tasty. I was talking about this place for days. I really loved it and will be back.
Took Mum for dinner on a busy Friday night.
Excellent meal and our waiter Stephen was so friendly and helpful-Would definately go back again.
I went to clare inn two weeks ago.. I had the half chicken there.
It was delicious... Beautifully. Cooked by chef.
I will go back again.
I love this place:)
We have never had a bad meal at the the Clare Inn.
This is pub fare at its finest. Honest staples given a gastronomic makeover.
The Beef Wellington, while not the traditional recipe, is simply delicious - rich meat dressed in a filo pastry, all served with creamy mash and gravy. The house pork sausages are divine - plump, juicy and enormous. The ribs, the eye fillet, the fish & chips, the apple pie: we've sampled them all and have not been able to find fault.
The surroundings are warm and comfortable, with friendly service to match. A great place to nurse a Kilkenny by the fire while listening to the soft Irish accents wafting over from the bar.
I have long been searching for restaurants that would serve Beef Wellington in Auckland and so far the options are pretty limited. So you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across Clare Inn's menu and saw Beef and Stout Wellington!
My partner ordered the lamb shoulder and we were both truly pleased with our meals. Not only was it a satisfying pub food serving, it also had fine restaurant quality.
What's even better was the 2 for 1 mains deal with the entertainment book coupon! My partner even felt bad for using it as he felt we were ripping them off!
Went for dinner to try out an entertainment book voucher. Had heard great things. Very impressed. We ate upstairs. Nothing fancy to look at but food was amazing! I have not had better in auckland. We had squid to start. Husband had t-bone for main and I had eye fillet. Was totally Amazing. This is going to be our regular treat.
Had a few pints and bar meal before attending an sporting event. We enjoyed the atmosphere and decor. We were made welcome by the staff. Decided to have a light meal from the Bar Menu, was impressed by the size and quantity of the potato skins. Was too full to finish mine !!!!

I have never eaten here before and was reluctantly expecting basic pub food (we came with friends for the music). How pleasantly surprised I was. Beautifully cooked and presented. The sort of thing you would expect in a 'normal' restaurant - not pub. The only complaint - maybe a little too much in the way of food - crazy complaint huh. The dessert could have been 2 desserts. Too many great flavours on one dish which made it just a little too rich. And in the end I had to choose which to eat and which to leave . Great friendly service. This place deserves to be inundated with diners.
This Pub is good. Had really tasty beef and Guinness spring rolls!. The staff are mostly Irish which i liked (sucker for the accent!) Friendly.
Hard to get to the bar through the locals.
Guinness was good. Nice to watch the world go by from the window. I'll be back.
This place serves some of the best food I've ever had. Even though it's a pub beats most of the '5 star' restaurants I've been too. Absolutely love it. After our first visit we've been back 4 times and taken family and friends. Staff are friendly, good atmosphere and best of all is the delicious food. Been trying a number of things off the menu, steak, pork belly, duck and they're all amazing! Highly recommend it.
Fantastic main dishes make up for the dusty cutlery, average desserts, lack of tea variety (only Irish Breakfast) and sometimes loud music at night. We wouldn't normally go to a pub for a meal, but we have eaten here several times now and always been pleasantly surprised.
Pub food doesn't get any better than this; and all the elements of an enjoyable night out are provided by this place. Downstairs the bar is warm, not too noisy, and friendly; upstairs, the restaurant is run by waiting staff who know what they're doing and who do it with good humour and goodwill. I got a free taste of our (ultimately chosen) wine before I decided to buy it - rare these days. This is the best pub food I've had in ten years: the Beef and Guiness Wellington alone qualifies the place for a rosette.
Close to Eden Park, it should make a fortune. Here's hoping, because it's only ten minutes from home.
Traditional menu with a modern twist.Best value pub food I have found in Auckland.Good atmosphere and service. Patrons should be queuing at the door. Auckland's best kept secret.
A genuine Irish bar. Great menu, good craic!
Brilliant. Great basic pub food, stews and the like, staff are full of good humour and the Guinness is good. Wonderful Irish Pub
Often in the weekends, we get up really late, and find ourselves starving at 3pm, just as all the cafés are shut, but before dinner places open.
Fortunately for us, the Clare Inn Irish pub is not far away, and has great food when you need it. They make great mains, but even their bar food is very well done. Today, we had ginormous portions of fried calamari and potato skins, both of which were light and crispy, and came with a refreshing salad or salsa so it doesn't feel like you are clogging up your arteries.
More people should come to this place!
