June 2019. Dinner for two $160 including a corona, ginger beer and 2 soft drinks.The cheese garlic bread with dips was absolutely scrummy !! Insalata Pollo (chicken salad appetiser) was very generous and delicious. The Cocktai di Gaamberi was okay. Eye Fillet was delicious, although slightly salty and the Pork Belly was very nice although a little dry in places. Both dishes actually came with a few veges which was nice. Atmosphere was warm, friendly and inviting. Staff were great ! Very friendly, attentive but in no way intrusive. Given options as to where our table of two would like to sit and menu explained well. We also ordered seasonal vegetables. Will return.
Such a nice and authentic Italian Restaurant. The pasta is delicious and I can also highly recommend the bruschetta and tiramisu to finish off a yummy meal.
My partner and I came in this evening, visiting Tauranga for one night. Everything was fantastic! I had the prawn spaghetti dish and my partner had the gnocchi. There were so many prawns and the white wine sauce was full of flavour - they even added extra chilli. My partner tried gnocchi for the first time and it was superb. We will be back when we're here next. Definitely recommend this place - atmosphere, value for money and food is all 10/10.

After having pleasant lunch experience at Osteria Matamata we decided to have dinner at Osteria mt manganui ...atmosphere is cozy and worm, friendly service and most importantly food was soo tasty ...love our pasta , tiramisu was excellent..
Literally the best meal I have ever had in a restaurant. Hands down. Amazing ambience. Amazing service. Amazing wine. Amazing meal. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was heaven on earth!
great restaurant lovely staff and lovely atmosphere, going again this Friday it was that good, lovely food especially since Italian food is my favourite and it was warm inside and just a great overall experience

This a great Italian restaurant. I've decided to take my family to celebrate mother's day dinner and very pleased that we had made the right choice. Suits couple or families. Plenty of choices to choose for adult and children. If you're looking for a nice tasty Italian food, this is the place perfect to dine.
Good selection of menu. We had garlic and cheese pizza bread to start, lamb shanks, seafood risotto, margherita pizza for mains, tiramisu, profiterole and brand snaps for dessert. Every plate was presented well, perfectly seasoned and delicious. Portion size was perfect for what you pay. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, the restaurant was busy that night. Glad that we made a reservation.
The only negative point is that the waiter/waitress could pay a little more attention by asking/offering drinks from the bar. We had to ask for the drinks instead of them offering or selling the bar drinks. The service overall was pleasant but not pushy.
We walked out of the cafe feeling full and very happy. Will definitely return to this restaurant.
A very pleasant lunch on Easter Saturday. Sat outside and watched the street go by. Service a bit slow, however apologetic and very friendly. Food was true Italian and very good. This was our second visit and we will return.
We have now been to this restaurant 3 times over the last year and have to write a review as some of the reviews on here put me off going again but we went on Sunday and had fantastic service yet again and amazing food steak cooked to perfection and delicious pasta want to go back as soon as possible yummy!

We had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while and had made our reservation (I had read some good reviews on a different site) then one of our party checked the reviews on this site and as a result we came close to cancelling our reservation. We are so happy we did not.
We were there on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was at around 50% of capacity. We were pleasantly greeted & seated by the waiting staff. Our initial impression was favourable - the decor is very appealing, the music is pleasant and the chairs are very comfortable.
The service we received was attentive and friendly and the food was very good. I ordered my eye fillet medium rare, emphasising that I do not enjoy an overdone steak and the meal I received was cooked to perfection. I have ordered (and regretted it!) eye fillet at a number of other restaurants and have been disappointed with the overcooked lumps of meats I have been served so I was a little hesitant about ordering it on this occasion but I had no reason to be concerned!
One of our party ordered a simple salad with no dressing and when our meals were served we were politely informed that her salad would take a little longer as dressing had been applied so the kitchen was preparing a second meal for her. At other restaurants we have had to send meals back to the kitchen because a request for 'no dressing' has been ignored or overlooked so we were impressed that the serving staff had spotted the problem and corrected it without it becoming an issue when the meal arrived at the table.
Our meals served to confirm our initial favourable impression - we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Osteria da Gino and based on our experience are very happy to recommend this restaurant.
(On a final note - I would happily give this restaurant 5 stars if the menu offered free range fare. I do wish more restaurants and cafes would go the free range route as I avoid any dishes on the menu that use chicken, pork/bacon unless advertised as free-range. I think that if others feel the same way it would be a good idea to mention this in their reviews.)

Have been here twice when we were in the Mount over Easter this year. Food and staff were great then. This time we decided to return and had an excellent meal. Staff were attentive, food was delicious and managers were very polite and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to all who visit the Mount. Try some of the Italian wines they are great. Thanks to all.... Sam and I had an awesome evening and a great way to end a couple of days at the mount. Thanks:)
Have just had dinner at Osteria da Gino and absolutely loved it. Awesome service, everyone was very helpful and happy. Food was lovely and went to pay the bill for 4 people + a child and was under $200 couldn't believe how cheap it was, we thought they had left something off. Will be going back for sure.
I booked this restaurant and then read the reviews on this site. My partner and I were open minded as we went for dinner.
The restaurant was busy, the staff were attentive, and pleasant.
The food was superb, garlic pizza bread was the best I have ever had. Our mains the salmon Penney pasta, and the veal Marsala were delicious and on a par with top class Italian restaurants in Europe.
The desert .... Chocolate profiteroles could best be described as a near religious experience,

Excellent food, nice setting and ambience. Considering there were some bad reviews we were quite surprised how lovely the food was and the good portion size. We did feel that one of the male waiters was unfriendly and gave the impression he did not want to be there. No one come to ask us how our meals were. However we would come back again for the food.
Went to Osteria da Gino for an early Mother's Day dinner for mum. The fire going made a cold night warm. What a great looking restaurant. The staff where wonderful helping with all our fussy requirements. The food and service where excellent. Thanks for helping to make our mums day fantastic.

We will be going back, great menu, great food, good size portions - we have all agreed that we would go back just for the garlic bread and the amazing deserts alone - the tiramisu was ammmazzzzzing - a large serve and so light and fresh
I went for a company function so I can't comment on the value for money as I didn't have to fund my meal. The service for a large group (15ppl) was as quick as it could be on a Tuesday night when the restaurant was packed. Some of the mains could've been better - crispier skin on the pork belly. I ordered a chicken dish and was not disappointed; very rich but lovely flavours and well cooked. I struggled to finish it as we'd had mixed platters to start. The garlic bread that came with the starters was so tasty, I would go back for that alone. A good selection to choose from for the mixed platters as well. Decent sized meals. I took home a tiramisu which was probably a bit undersized for the price. Not that I needed a large portion after a big meal! Though, if you were only going for dessert it might be a tad on the small side.
For some time now the Tauranga /Mt Maunganui area has been missing a restaurant that when someone asks you "whats a good place to dine out" you can pass on with confidence and tell them to go to a certain restaurant and know they'll have good experience. There are a number of good places alright but consistency or that X factor not quite there. I dine out a lot with customers and friends and if I'm asked the question I will not hesitate in recommending Osteria da Gino. Lively Mediterranean atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and engaging and the food is great. Very extensive menu can be a challenge to select your meal but is also part of the fun to want to come back and try something else. For us carnivores the Eye fillet is supreme and the Scallop entree and good lead in. Ned and his team have created a neat dining experience at last that we've been missing!!
You have to check out this fabulous restaurant tucked away on the main street at the Mount. The ambience and atmosphere are delightful and very classy. The food would rate as amongst the top restaurants in the Bay.
I note there have been some previous bad reviews about this restaurant but I am happy to say that they have definitely taken a lot of suggestions on board if this was true and lifted their game.
I would happily go back here any time and recommend you try for yourself.
Fantastic restaurant! Definitely the place to dine when you are in the area. The owner Ned looked after us like we were one of his own!

I went to Osteria da Gino on Tuesday night with my partner, it was fantastic, the food was absolutely amazing. Staff was helpful with understanding menu, as it is partially in Italian. Four star for the food. But 5 star for the atmosphere and Service.
Will be taking friends and family back.

Absolutely stunned to read some of the comments on this page. We went to Osteria da Gino on Wednesday night for this weeks date night and it was AMAZING! Fantastic service, attentive waitress, always making sure we had water as it was a hot evening, the restaurant was busy and the food was quick coming to us... and it was unbelievable!! The eye fillet steak and the lamb shanks we would recommend to ANYONE! We will definitely be going back. Thanks to all at Osteria da Gino for a fantastic evening, see you again soon x
Service excellent, nice ambiance. Food well presented and tasty.....(love the mash)..we have dined four occasions since they opened. Consistent quality and generous portions.

We had a great experience at the restaurant. There were 9 of us and while the service was understandably a little slow (there were two very large groups at the restaurant on the same night), we had fantastic service and the food was delicious. The menu is extensive so there was something for everyone.
As a suggestion, we could have been offered bread and dips, or olives, etc as nibbles while we waited for our food too.
Overall, we really liked the restaurant and would definitely return.
We went to Osteria da Gino last Saturday night, it was fantastic, the service was good and the food was absolutely amazing, it was that good we are going to take back some friends for their anniversary dinner, five star food, yummy.
Great Italian restaurant in Mount Maunganui. Delicious food and beautiful atmosphere by the high street. We ordered two of the pasta dishes, mussels, chips and a margherita. Everything was delicious! 100% recommend!
We had dinner here with family after eloping, it was such a lovely place to dine at! Husband got the lamb shanks, and the sauce was delicious. I sampled other family members meals; their gnoochi was really delicious, the lasagna was good, rich and not boring at all. Everyone at the table was happy with their meals.
Very attentive waitresses, impeccable service from a restaurant at full capacity I was very impressed. The food came out very quickly, too.
Highly recommend, we will be back for our anniversary :D keen to try the ravioli next

It brings me joy and warm fuzzies and I think “damn I hope these kids get to see this. And I hope their bosses do. And their bosses bosses. And they buy them margaritas and feed them cheese.”
We were excited to have a mid week dinner out. We’ve been to Osteria before and it’s been good. There’s a nice vibe about the place which I can’t quite put my finger on; which is a compliment. Whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it naturally.
We were warmly and enthusiastically greeted. This is a BIG WIN in my book. Nobody wants to walk in to a restaurant and be met with apathy. The waitress we had was a delight. I had channelled my inner pleb and asked for ice in my wine. Terribly uncouth, but I’m paying for it so it’s my right. She wasn’t put out in the slightest.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to eat. Coming to an Italian restaurant when you don’t eat pizza or pasta is odd some would say. But Osteria has enough to offer reasonable alternatives. The first time we came there was a stunning veal saltimbocca but sadly this hadn’t been on the menu for some time.
I opted for a platter and asked for them to go easy on the bread. (I’m a difficult customer) and the Favourite Husband took a trip in to retro land with the prawn cocktail. The prawn cocktail was tasty and basic, there was no trying to drag it in to the 2020’s and that’s ok. My platter was lovely. I had envisioned myself languishing over it, seductively nibbling on an olive, whilst sipping my wine for an hour. But I eat like a pig who’s been starved for a week. So there was nothing seductive or lingering about it. I inhaled that sucker. I’d have liked to see a hard cheese thrown on there and maybe some crackers or nuts but it was good.
The Favourite Husband outdid himself with a steak that, in his words, was “right up there with the best I’ve ever had” with emphasis on the “ever.” Which was slightly rude as I cook him steaks …
It was good value, good food, good vibes and good service. Good job

Ended up here sorts by mistake (thought it was somewhere else). A good mistake though.
We had a mixed platter for two plus a chicken, bacon & mozzarella pizza & some drinks.
The platter was excellent (wasn't fussed about the sopressa hot salami though). Pizza was also excellent.
Special kudos to the waitress who was professional and was a credit to the restaurant.
Would happily recommend to others... A word to the wise tho... Dress nicely!
Delicious! We had the ravioli and Caesar salad, both very nice. Also ordered the grapefruit sour, and I usually don’t like grapefruit but it was very nice as well! Would love to see a couple more cocktails on the menu but loved it and definitely coming back!
Beautiful place. I got the bone in ribeye (which was massive). A very difficult piece of meat to cook, but was almost perfectly medium rare.

Me and my partner visited this place last night and wow the food was absolutely beautiful. One of the best pasta dishes I have tried in a very long time. Service was really good and prices were really good.
Fettuccine was very soft rich n creamy. Picante n bruschetta was nice and fresh. Dark interrior makes good atmosphere n service was sweet. Thanks for the great dining.
Really nice place. I had the fettuccine, was really nice and creamy. Was real cool place to go too. The rib eye was good but I asked for well done and it was as red as a Ferrari. I would expect for $45 that it would be cooked how I asked. Drinks were nice and so was the service. I feel like this place doesn’t flow as you watch the staff. Would come here again. They also have a good location. But we got the steak refunded witch was nice. Definitely recommend just to be afraid to speak up. The food was really good temperature.😀
We first visited the Osteria in Matamata and wanted to try this location as well! Great charcuterie board and location was right in the downtown area! Would come back again!
