Like the vibe and service here. Pet friendly place and kinda kid friendly as well. The coffee was so good but the sausage roll from cabinet was too salty for me.

Awesome pineapple smoothie, savoury scroll and gooseberry tart. So yummy! Great to see they use metal straws for the smoothies and don’t provide unnecessary plastic cutlery with the takeaway tart. Helpful friendly staff too! Definitely recommend

A great social place for amazing tasting coffee and a pretty good lunch menu. The only negative about sitting inside was the loud music. The service was excellent.

Come here often and love(d) it. Still the same friendly atmosphere, yet discovered yesterday the menu had changed... every time I used to come here I would order the beignets. But this time the menu seemed more hmm simplified..? The old cafe menu was quirky and great and definitely would have warranted a 5 star review.. the new menu unfortunately isn't so good.

We were across the road at the Mediterranean warehouse so FGSmith was close for a bite. My partner had been before and enjoyed it.

Nice space. Indoor outdoor seating. Nice looking cabinet food.

We ordered the fish and chips and the pulled pork buns. Both $19.50 each.

Fish and chips were nice. The tempura batter was a fraction greasy but enjoyable. The homemade tartare sauce was nice.

The burgers were presented as three sliders. The pickles were pickled cucumber which was nice but the flavour could have. Wen more present. The pork itself was tender and flavoursome and plenty of it. The buns were soft and tasty but a little too much bread for me.

We also ordered a simply side salad which came with a simple dressing which accompanied the meal perfectly.

The staff were attentive and meals came out quickly. We also ordered a doughnut and an orange almond cake to take away.

They got the bill wrong and almost charged us for what seemed like three tables given the cost but it was easily rectified.

All up $58.00

My favourite cafe in Hawke's Bay!! Love this chain of cafes, and this is my favourite out of all of them. They have amazing food, all of it really beautiful. Their staff are heaps of fun and really friendly. Most of them have learnt my name, and give lots of good banter. Love the big farmers breakfast, it's a lot of food for the price! And the nicest scrambled eggs in Napier. I've had heaps of cheffing inspiration from Smiths too. Their creamy mushrooms are also amazing. Nom nom nom. Coffees nice also, decor is cool. Cool music. Nice fast free wifi, so I make this my meeting spot most of the time, and when I don't have meetings I come here with my laptop to work. All in all, couldn't be happier!!

Sunday morning breakfast. At 5 to 9 cars are starting to park, waiting outside for the big black stable doors to open.
Semi industrial, white exposed rafters, polished concrete floors, circular wooden tables with duck egg blue plastic - chrome chairs. At the outer, fur cushioned banquette seating.
The counter lines the back wall and the espresso machine wraps round to the right.

A large "welcome" tops the counter. Counter food looks inviting - a varied mix of sweets pastries and tarts and savoury pies.

At least half a dozen nicely uniformed staff await a Sunday morning brunch frenzy as tables begin to fill by 9.30.

Two coffees: all press flat white and trim cap. Both a little insipid on the first sip but improving with subsequent.

Pulled pork on potato rolls with poached eggs and hollandaise. Delicious - perfectly cooked egg creating a beautiful creamy yellow sauce to the rich, savoury, moist pork. Four toasted slider buns made from potato gave a matching soft texture and helped soak up the indulgent topping.

Sweet roll: the best we have had - a curled sweet bready/brioche beautifully crisp on the outside and moist throughout - gooey underneath. This alone is a reason to come here (live here).

Recommended, fashionable, modern, delicious and Aroha design store (with Nom D, Kowtow and a few other high end fashion brands) next door as a bonus.

First time visit to FG Smith Eatery, loved the open industrial feel to the place. It's a very interesting menu, a range of small plates to share, a number of bigger plates for either sharing or a smaller individual dish, then a few larger individual meals. We were given a complimentary appetiser dish to start, a sample of one of the small sharing plates - luscious olives in olive oil flavoured with fennel seeds, and a slice of Italian sausage.

My rib eye steak was to die for. The very best steak I have eaten since ... I can't remember when! Served simply with hand cut, beautifully crisp skin-on chips, and a mixed lettuce salad, the enormous piece of steak was cooked to perfection and topped with light fluffy herb butter and a jus. The wine list is just right - a selection of great wines, mostly local Hawke's Bay and just few good South Island wines. A great range of craft beers as well, with Tuatara Pilsner and Hefe on tap.

Service was perfect, understated, friendly but very timely - water glasses refilled just before you think to look around for more and the staff quietly attentive. Well done FG Smith Eatery, this meal will live on in memory. Next time, the sharing plates....

Love the new place, very open. The outdoor area is very inviting, but in the heat of summer, we need some shade to hide under.

The menu some some great stuff on it. I had the meatball sandwich, which was really tasty. The others with me had the fish and chips and the toasted sandwich with the sourdough bread. The fish and chips was very nice, the fish was very crispy, and the vinegar dressing was lemony.

The highlight was probably the desert, an ice cream sandwich with cherry ice cream and macaroon top and bottom.

Great coffee. Polite waiting staff. Plenty of seating and space indoors and out. Would recommend the ‘hangover fried rice’. French toast was quite basic. Overall impressed with freshness and quality of food. $120 for 4 dishes and 4 hot beverages.

Decent food and coffee, staff were very efficient and friendly and we didn't have to wait very long. Ordered a Cappuccino and the French Toast, both good and the French toast was nice and fluffy, wouldn't have minded some fruit or something, but still enjoyable.

Had a family brunch here! Everyone was able to find something to enjoy. The Under 5s had fries and sourdough toast. Three vegan options: Fried Rice, Granola, and Coffee Roasted Beetroot with Freekah. I went for the Spinach & Cheese scroll with whipped butter. It was a really delicious bread. I also had the Tan Slice. A super smooth caramel filling and lovely walnut and biscuit topping. Family had multiple coffees and tried the Eggs Benedict with Bacon. It looked good and they scraped the plates clean.

Great wee food establishment. Friendly staff, good communication from the start regarding waiting times as they were short staffed. Waiting time was very reasonable considering. Beautiful food and very reasonable pricing. Obviously a popular place for dining, and easy to see why. Highly recommend to all. Have posted a couple of snaps, sorry if the names of the dishes are not correct.

We were in Napier for the weekend and this place was recommended to us by our AirBnB hosts. There was a short queue for a table but we waited less than 5 minutes. We were shown to a table and given menus. It was quite busy and you could tell the staff were a bit under the pump but they were still friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty and the coffee was pretty good too. If I was in town I would come again.
