Amazing find in Napier! Having dined in several Trattoria in Europe, I was very keen to see what was on offer in provincial New Zealand. Was happily blown away. Delicious food combinations, simple with excellent ingredients and beautifully presented. An absolute delight and highly recommend.
A lovely evening at the restaurant. Filled up quite quickly from 6.30pm onwards. Excellent food, good wine and a very attentive host.
One of the best Italian restaurants that I’ve been in NZ! Just stop for a carpaccio but I ended up having a full meal. And what a dinner!
The entree had 4 flavours which were 4 of the most popular entrees I supposed 😅 and each of them was amazing!
The lasagne was so on point, not greasy or too much seasoning, the plate was enough for one person (considering that I had an entree).
And the Chianti that never disappoints 👌🏻
The staff was so kind too, I got to practice a little bit of my italian which it’s always convenient 🙌🏻
Unfortunately I was in Napier just for a couple of days so I couldn’t get to try the other dishes.
Definitely I'll come back.
We stumbled upon Trattoria alla Toscana on a quiet night. There was only a few diners who looked like regulars.
We weren’t expected much but really taken by surprise how fresh and tasty all the ingredients used. The Calamari Fritti was perfectly cooked. The Beef Carpaccio was simply delicious. All the greens were really fresh and coated with delicious olive oil. Even the aioli was super tasty!
The Seafood Fettuccine was stunning with every piece of seafood tasted really fresh and juicy, the sauce was scrumptious! But the star of the night was the Fish of the day, which was a humble Snapper. It was a simple dish made with the freshest fish and vegetables, true to italian style. The accompanying special side dish Baked Beetroot with Balsamic and Feta was perfect.
Trattoria alla Toscana has a very good chef and all the dishes were better than a lot of the expensive Italian restaurants I have tried in Sydney, and all over the world. I highly recommend this little gem in Napier. Even though a chilly quiet autumn night, we felt the sunny Tuscany and joy eating the food.
We were a group of 4 that enjoyed Gnocchi, fish of the day and lasagna bolognese. I, myself, had the gnocchi with a Gorgonzola sauce. I would have expected the Gorgonzola taste to be more present. It was too subtle for my taste. My wife really enjoyed the fish. As for the service, I felt pressured by the owner to buy more than what I wanted. I rarely felt that in all the restaurants I visited.
Very hard to fault. Started with Arinchini balls, then mains my wife had raviolli and i had seafood fettecene, stunning flavours on seafood dish that lasted well after eating it.
Had to have desert, i went Tirimasu, sensational, wife had lemon tart, loved it.
Waitress was awesome, great experience and well priced for what we received.
My husband and I had an enjoyable experience eating at this restaurant. The food was superb, the wine recommendation was on point and the place has an amazing atmosphere. It was a pleasure dining here. Highly recommend the Lasagna, the spinach and ricotta pasta with sage butter sauce and the desserts. Delicious.
Very genuine Italian restaurant. Ordered arancini balls and garlic sourdough bread very very tasty. Portion size was three pieces each. Mains was spinach ravioli and chicken fettuccine. Desert was a chocolate tart. Restaurants with few but select mains do a good job with the taste I guess. Good service and very tidy. Parking available outside free after six on weekdays.
I love the food here - amongst the best I’ve had anywhere, including Italy. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Consistently high quality fare. Some lovely wines - and a good Grappa.
