We are here twice while in the area and loved it. It’s an order, take a number and seat yourself kind of place. Casual vibe, but delicious food. Big portions and filling after a day of hiking. We got the burger, fish, fish sandwich and steak- all were good.
Can get busy so we tried to go a bit earlier.
Be warned, it gets VERY crowded. I recommend booking a table. Food was really good, and the beer 🍺 on tap was even better. You did have to battle the queue of people ordering food to get your drinks.
Thanks Schnapps for the great food and hospitality! My friend and I enjoyed one of our best meals here in New Zealand, just straight up good food that you can't go wrong with. We shared the ribs and scotch fillet and we were stuffed. Portions are great for the price. Also can't miss the post hot chocolate for the cold weather! P.s. it's the little things like lemon water to wash our fingers that makes a huge difference!!
Schnapps Bar is a bar and pub located in National Park Village.
The bar has a fireplace and an old school bar that creates a cozy ambiance. The waiters are friendly. The messy ribs are really big portions that my partner and I had to share. The buffalo wings are crispy and tender. They also have brownie with ice cream for dessert. They have some vegetarian and glute free option.
Schnapps bar was a great place to go for dinner after we returned from the mountain.
We were welcomed with a friendly smile and a "Kia Ora" which my Te Reo speaking whānau very appreciated.
The food was INCREDIBLE and great value for money.
We ordered the scotch fillet, mountain burger, kids mac and cheese and kids chicken nuggets. We also ordered the choc brownie and Belgian waffles which could not be faulted.
We cant wait to return one day.
Whenever I travel rural tourist area, I usually have low expectations on food but the food in this pub was actually quite nice. We enjoyed steak, chicken wings and beef burger. Friendly staff and cozy winter vibes. Must try their Mulled wine! Tasty 👍
After the hike we were shattered and decided to eat in rather than out, the phone manner when we ordered was excellent. Super friendly and funny too. When we picked up nothing was an issue either. The food was great, the burger was excellent.
Good food, cool atmosphere. My kids loved the burger, and I really enjoyed the fish and chips. Really fun bar near a mountain vibe and a neat crowd too. All the employees were super nice, and the lady that took my order had a great sense of humor. We were in town 2 nights and did dinner here both nights.
Great service from the guy behind the bar. Ribs were delicious and servings were very generous. The Mountain burger 🍔 was also pretty good. Great value. Nice mini golf area and you can get the sundae at a discount after your game.

Loved the food! We had garlic bread followed by the ribs and the scotch fillet.
The ribs were plentiful, I couldn't finish them and the fries and rib sauce were great.
We shared the toffee pudding and it was very nice.
Would definitely return if in the area.
