Good food and a great selection of tap beers. Friendly staff who offer good suggestions on dishes to try. One my favorite bars in New Plymouth ✌️👍

Melon Cool #cocktail in Frederic's bar. The outdoor seating is ideal for hot summer weather. Not so simple: pub food was upgraded with chili sauce, a bit of marinated beetroot and microgreens. I love the calamari dish and the tender squid rings with chilly, spring onion and Aioli. A good place for liquid morning tea to flow into lunch lol. Good food great service.

Food: It's called Meat and Liquor so don't be surprised at what's on the menu. Good selection of veges though. Ordered 400g Angus beef steak and it was what was on the plate with sauces and that was it. The entire steak was edible so no gristle or fat. I wanted medium rare but essentially got medium but out was still enjoyable. Wife had lamb rump steak (300g) and that wad also very nice. Veges were green beans with goat curd and also spinach and brie. The spinach dish was very nice, the green beans were OK but the goats curd wasn't my flavour. No space for dessert as three mains were plentiful.
Service: Good service, food was good timing wise and follow up provided once served. Water was kept topped up and all the waitresses were friendly.
Ambience: Decor is nice, it's not crowded or rowdy even with other diners close by. Biggest issue was the lack of air conditioning. Yes it is rather warm with temperatures of 28-30 degrees but that isn't totally unusual for New Plymouth. The two ceiling fans were totally inadequate and despite only wearing T shirt, doors and jandals while sitting beneath a fan, I was still far too hot.
At first glance it would be easy to pass this off as your standard local pub - until you get your hands on the menu anyway. There's a great cocktail range including some mocktails that step outside the square, and a good range of small plates or main meals.
The tacos needed a little more flavour to them to make them really amazing, but they were fresh, tasty and generously portioned.
The service was excellent.
GET THE LAMB! Blew me away. Would choose that as my last meal before I die. With Garlic Butter and Jus. Life is complete. Pretty serious portion sizes too. Great fries. Great service

Really liked this place!!! I just had the chilli chips, but they were sooooo good!!! I normally do not like mince, but theirs I loved. Great portion size as well. Definitely a place I would go back to :-)
Dine a Frederic's quite regularly & not once have I walked away disappointed. Food is always tasty, hot & plenty of it, staff are always friendly & the atmosphere is always warm & inviting. If I'm ever asked by someone where the best place for a drink & a bite to eat in New Plymouth I always recommend Frederic's :)
We were 5 adults who hadn't been to Fredericks before, one being gluten free. We had an amazing meal and an equally amazing waitress. We couldn't fault the food...good on you Fredericks we will be back...
What a wonderful dining experience :-) I wanted to take the time to rave about our recent lunch at Frederics. The staff were warm, friendly and efficient. We were handed a tick sheet menu, loaded with reasonably priced options and additional specials. The duck risotto and beef skewers we chose were delicious. The atmosphere upstairs was quiet and charming. Can't wait to go back! :-)
After visitng Frederics several time for drinks I finally stopped for lunch one day. Waitress were great, once they clicked we were in for lunch not just a drink.
Lunch was delicious - steak sandwhich and awesome handcut fries, unfortunatley way too much salad dressing on the side salad though.
Resonable and filling meals. Might go back for dinner next time, but can be loud in evenings.
The chef here is definitely trying to be different and that's a good thing. The chicken burger I had was great, although the bun could use some work. Beware the potato skins aren't really skins and the batch I had were over-salted so didn't pair with the truffle mayo very well.
This was wonderful find. Had the best snapper I have ever had. The hand cut chips were beautifully seasoned. To top it off, the meal was presented professionally.
The staff each put the customer at the centre of their interactions. They were professional, friendly, attentive and engaging.
They repeatedly swept the room to take further orders or to take away dishes and glasses.
The atmosphere was fabulous. There were groups watching the football, and others were just out for a meal. The place was lively. If we lived in New Plymouth, this would become our local.

We were walking around NP and decided to come in here for a drink. We are so impressed with the high level of customer service and friendly staff we stayed for dinner too. Excellent food and great atmosphere with a nice mix of people. Highly recommended. We would definitely come back.
Beer was great, service was great, food was disappointing. Fries were too salty but fantastic otherwise and the burger was small, dry (not in an overcooked sort of way), bacon wasn't noticeable, and it had way too much sauce on it. I'm willing to bet other food choices would be good but this wasn't what I was looking for.
Nice bar with ever changing guest beers. Had an excellent pint, dunno what it was. Lady serving (Sophie) was great.
Clean toilets, seating inside and out. Nice place for a beer. Food menu looked amazing. Separate restaurant area.
Love Freddie's for after work drinks on Fridays and weekend lunches in the outdoor seating area. The staff are always really friendly and helpful and the bar food is 10/10. Highlights for me are the chicken burger and the loaded fries

Dropped in yesterday lunch time, amazing MASSIVE burger and loved the brisket fries. Nice clean bar with really friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Chilled out place just off the main street in the CBD. Staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. Beer selection is a little bit limited but not too bad. Prices are reasonable and if you're staying at the King and Queen hotel you can charge back to your room which is awesome.
We had a company mid-winter lunch. Service and food were awesome. Great atmosphere.
