Classic pub fare. Service can be a bit hit and miss here, but a good local pub for simple food and a drink.
There is a new menu and kitchen has had a make over. I have had a few things off the menu and have been very satisfied. Great bar will always visit for a feed and a few beers.
Not many places you can grab a beer for between $7.50-$8 these days. Also have a great range of crafty beers in stock as well. Foods great! Always going for the Smoked chipotle chicken and salmon salad!! 😍
Such a lovely old pub, a bit of a rabbit warren of warm and cosy rooms and a bustling little kitchen, lovely outdoor seating areas and good food. We stopped by for a light lunch, sharing the divine steamed mussels and clams in white wine & cream sauce with garlic butter on toasted white farmhouse bread, ambrosia!
Purely food related as I am pregnant and never been for a night drinking at this pub, but the good is SO good! Roast veg salad is incredible, all the pies and amazing quality - prices are great too. Love the food here
Top notch fush and chups, good selection of alcs and a mint beer garden for summer, what more could one want? Staff are friendly and the venue is awesom3, tidy clean and historically interesting.
Best place for a Sunday beer! This is one of Auckland's ,oldest pubs. It was originally used in the early 1800s for the workmen on wharf!
Shit this place is good for the old school pub feel, kid friendly, good pub food, great garden, good for watching sports games - I love this old place!
Awesome old pub. Great food and the staff are fantastic. My parents live in the area and go every Saturday afternoon. Wish it was my local! :)
Some great comfort food. Recently had the slow cooked beef cheek on the winter menu. Such a generous portion: hearty and filling. I could be wrong but I thought it was meant to come with polenta but it looked and tasted like it was served on top of a roughly mashed potato (bummed cos I love a good polenta but the dish was great nonetheless). I have also had the pork fennel sausages recently and really enjoyed that too. All my go-to beers are on tap. A wonderful local pub.
Great old tavern. Cheap beer, pokies, TAB, meat raffles, karaoke and the best steak and Guinness pie in the land! What more could you ask for!?
Great character pub with really nice fish and chips. They serve a decent pint but could have a better range of craft beers. Will keep coming.
I came here with a group of friends on a Sunday to get a proper pub experience and it was ideal. The guys loved the actual pint sized
beers (possibly the best prices in Auckland) and the food was really filling. The choices on offer were really tasty and they offer very generous portions. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Decor is cosy and the building itself is amazing! Will be back in the summer lots to enjoy the massive lawn in the sun.
Decent food, reasonable prices and what's this... Actual Pints? Pretty amazing for an Auckland pub to still give their customers a 'pint' in an actual pint glass for less than a tenner, A rare find.
We ate here recently with friends. We expected your normal average pub food, but were very pleasantly surprised. The entrees, and the mains were excellent. The calamari was cooked perfectly, something a lot of restaurants find hard to do. The lamb shanks and guinness and steak pie meals were also excellent. You ordered your meals from the kitchen when you were ready, so there was no pressure. The menu was simple, but there was no problem choosing meals, and when ready they were served to you wherever you sat (there were several seating options). The meals were great value. The atmosphere was great, very relaxed, and suitable for family groups of any age.

This is a hard one. If we were to rate the food it would be: great pub food - not entirely consistent but delicious all the same...definitely recommended. Service in the pub is a little less attractive along with some of the regulars and their behaviour after a few drinks...manners please! My partner was 99% sure that our drinks were served in dirty glasses - definitely not acceptable at any establishment. So yeah - food - YES! Drinks - if it's in a bottle go for it but just watch the person serving your drinks if you opt for something poured...
Update 16/07/11 - Okay so 3rd time here now...and it's been so much better! Since the first couple of times here - the food has been consistently great and the service at the bar has much improved. Keep up the great work guys and ladies! :-)
