We didn’t stay at the hotel but instead went to the restaurant. The pan fried salmon had the most incredible crust and well seasoned, The Friday special of lamb shank was fall off the bone tender and well matched with the thick flavoursome gravy, mash and perfectly steamed seasonal vegetables. They were preparing for a large crowd judging by the reserved tables but kept checking in on us for drinks etc. an absolute fabulous evening!!
Gagan at Surf in cooked the most amazing fresh red snapper I have ever had!!! Was amazing definitely recommend their food. Plus the restaurant room was so nice and the setting was lovely, clean and fresh looking great decor for a small town pub very impressed 💯😁

We love the Surf Inn. The meals here never disappoint. The salmon last night was superb - perfectly cooked and super generous.

The meal was great. The service we had from the young lady when we first walked in was top-notch. we got our our dinner, which was quick service. One of the meals we found a bone in it when we told the lady she just said sorry and walked away. we got asked if we wanted dessert but was given no menus, and our plates still hadn't been removed when dessert arrived she had no room to put it on table then took some of the plates but never returned the spoon I got to eat my dessert was like a serving spoon it was way to big then when my son got his he didn't even get a spoon pretty bad service from the other waitress that was there.
Overall, nice meal just let down by the service of one team member I would say the owner of the place. Maybe you need to take a leaf out of your workers book on customer service.
Had lunch here and it was lovely the guy who served us was friendly and helpful. The beef schnitzel was awesome I would go there again in a heartbeat
Welcome to the town New Owners Charlie and Maggie. You guys are trying to do something for this town, much appreciated. We want publicans like yous who will just not take, but also give back. Went for a last minute dinner with the family. They were busy but could squeeze us in. We sat in the restaurant section.
Great selection of food, & not too much of a wait despite only having one server working. Would possibly have been easier on him if somebody in the bar could do the drinks instead as he was running back and forth.
Everyone was very happy with their meals, very reasonably priced too. Will definitely go back on our next stay in Opunake.

You know you stop in these gorgeous towns and wonder where to get dinner.. Well for us this place is so good... The food is so yummy... I had loaded nachos... Huge plate.... He had stuffed chicken.... Fresh vegetables..... So done to perfection... Our waitress /bar girl was so nice... Highly recommend
One of the very best meals I have ever had, the stuffed chicken breast was excellent and the crumbed fried camembert with cranberry sauce was even better. Fantastic staff even when quite busy, menu has a great variety for all tastes with a special children's menu with great value and adaptable to kids tastes and requirements. I had entree, main and the other two had deserts all with drinks averaging out at forty dollars each, this is really great value as well 💖. Great Bar menu as well, burgers and pizzas, with heaps of menu choices.
