Lee at origin coffee is the BEST! We arrived on the train without a car, not realizing how small a town Otorohanga was, and didn’t have a way to get to our hotel. We popped into the coffee shop to sit down and figure it out, and not only was the food and drink delicious, but lee offered to give us a ride in his own car. I can’t overstate how grateful we were, and how lovely of a community this coffee shop creates. Thank you Lee and origin coffee!

Best cappuccino ever! I been to 39 countries and I thought Italy had the best coffee but this place blew my socks off! Only 1 person making the coffee with love but it’s so worth the wait! Had to give a review to this place that makes the best coffee in the world so far on my quest. Don’t miss this hidden gem!

Probably the best place in town to get a coffee. I loved how the coffee came with a jaffa and a little cookie. The guy there is super friendly which made it helpful. If you are just driving through then make a quick coffee stop here.

Quite possibly the best coffee I have had in such a long time! I am going to start buying my coffee from here now. Everything about this place is super quaint and the smell of roasting coffee is delicious.

Absolutely loved the iced mocha Frappe I had here. I'm often left very underwhelmed by frappe' generally, but this one was so well balanced. The sweetness and bitterness complemented each other so well. Also learnt where Rugby originated from, so definitely worth a stop by for good coffee and good service/banter!!

The station across the road from the car park and the public toilets that became a coffee shop. Under duress they will also serve tea. Definitely worth diverting off the main road to find and enjoy a break. I’m told they do mail order coffee if you can’t do without their particular brew/bean. Recommended.

If you like great quality coffee, you might want to come here. The lads working there are friendly and always open for conversation/questions. The Malawi Express coffee is quite a unique experience

A fantastic coffee roasted right there in what was once the train station of Otorohanga. Great local knowledge as well, a must stop for tourists wanting to know what's going on and where to go.

What a great place and an amazing owner! He offerd my brother and i a coffee so we entered the place. It was a very nice and cozy place next to the train station( were only once an hours a train stoped). The coffee was really fantastic, maybe also because roger burned his own coffee beans. He showed us the different types of burning (American and Turkish) machines and we also learned how to make the coffees. The barista course was amazing. Roger told us how to foam the milk and how to make nice figures. It was really an amazing experience. This night i couldnt sleep due to all the delicious coffee i drunk;))

We came here today on a rainy Monday afternoon. Roger, the owner, made two cappuccinos for us which tasted really good. It was also good to know that according to Roger, the beans he’s using are ethically sourced from the Shire Highlands of Malawi where he is from. On a side note, Roger is super nice and has a great sense of humour - when he heard that I just finished my PhD in chemistry, he asked me to draw the structure of caffeine on his whiteboard (which admittedly I had to look up first...). If you like coffee, make sure to stop by this Cafe on your way!

Outstanding friendly service, best coffee in Otorohanga. They are so dog friendly they even have treats for their doggy customers. Convenient parking and also close to the Ed Hillary Walkway full of Kiwiana facts and displays. There's an EV charger across the road too so you can have amazing coffee while waiting to charge your car. Indoor and outdoor seating, definitely worth a visit

A close friend introduced me to the Origin coffee range about 3-years ago and I have since been a returning customer. Every batch has been of remarkable quality, delivery is imminent, with a personal touch and drinking sustainably traded coffee just feels better. My great experience with Origin coffee, however, has recently been topped by their outstanding customer service dealing with a failed courier delivery and I am thankful for that!
