Initially we were confused by the reviews on Google. But then we decided to try. And it was one of the best big breakfasts in New Zealand. If you are traveling through this beautiful country then we would highly recommend to stop here for a short break, enjoy the meal and continue to discover this amazing country further!

We have been travelling around the South Island for awhile and this is the best breakfast we’ve had. The staff are really funny. They gave us free cake and they’re also really good looking. 😉 I am from England and we never have steak on our breakfast and I had a steak on my breakfast so I am very happy. The place is cozy and we are sitting next to the fire! Caitlin’s Cafe for the win!

Had a lovely lunch here on the drive through to Dunedin. Homemade tomato soup was yummy, eggs Benedict was nicely presented and we were able to order a vegan breakfast which was also tasty. The coffee was good. The service was efficient and pleasant even though they were busy. Thank you!

Must stop experience if you are in the Catlins. Brilliant coffee, a fantastic kitchen with incredible food at very reasonable prices and most of all Peter and his team are incredible hosts and very kind caring people. Will be a highlight of your visit to South Otago

Never in my life have I been somewhere so truly kiwi. So down to earth and no frills but all good vibes, it felt like walking into a toasty home. Glenda gave such authentic and lovely service, will definitely stop in every time we pass through!

Little gem on the scenic drive, stopped in for a quick bite, ended up chatting to the staff who gave good suggestions, very friendly. The homemade pies were enormous and delicious. Well done!

The staff were always welcoming and genuine, we came three days in a row and were not disappointed. They also have a beautiful chessboard to use.

The very accommodating proprietor opened the cafe on a very cold rainy windy day and lit the fire especially for our group of families to sit inside and be warm and enjoy the wonderful food. Thank you very much

Food was lovely. Had the open beef burger and salt and pepper squid with cippx and salad. Great value. Well prepared. Toasted bun. It will probably be a while before we are down this way again. But we will be back when we have opportunity. Recommended.

Stopped off here whilst touring the area. Lovely cafe with friendly staff that is very fitting to the area. The coffee was awesome, the cake was lovely but the star of this visit was the Lqmb and Mint pie. Exactly what a pie should be……lots of tasty meat with crispy pastry……a meal in itself. Wish they had pies like this back home in the UK. Bloody lovely and thank you

The Catlins Owl in Owaka is a one-of-a-kind experience, combining a café, gallery, and owl sanctuary. Enjoy delicious homemade treats while surrounded by stunning artworks. The highlight is the opportunity to interact with rescued owls up close, making it an unforgettable and magical destination for nature and art lovers.
