To be honest I never got into Thai food , only recently it’s more popular to eat with friends because it’s something different to Chinese / jap/ Korean. This restaurant actually gave me a surprise and changed my views on Thai food. The prawn pad Thai was absolutely amazing , not too sweet at all (because I do not prefer overly sweetened pad Thai) , also got the sweet chili snapper which wasn’t very sweet or chili lol the sauce was very light , probably adjusted to more European/kiwi taste. Price I do find a bit too expensive for Thai food for the portion we get. The fish’s portion was not big at all to be honest. Handmade coconut ice cream was BOMB! Highly recommend !! (Even though I don’t really like coconut). Will consider returning for lunch or take out for a better price next time :) food is definitely worth trying !
Cozy place with a minimalist decor. The staff was friendly and the food was decent although a bit on the expensive side for Thai food. I had the chicken Pad Thai and it was delicious!
A nice little casual dinner to go with friends or family. The food was cheap and give generous portion sizes. The food taste was yum and I have been back many times and never once had a bad experience. The service was also good - no complaints there
I would recommend this to people who are looking a cheap restuarant to go too, that has good food and portion sizes.
Service: 5/5
Food: 3.7/5
Portions: 4/5
Atmosphere: 3.5/5
Very clean and tidy restaurant with very efficient, friendly service. Food presentation and portion sizes were tops, thanks for the great meal !
Absolutely love the food especially the peanut based dishes :). Definitely would recommend. Have never had any issues with using Zomato Gold either :)
Today i brought my wife and 2 kids for dinner.
My wife although being thai has never had thai food before. I ordered us a padthai, a panang curry and a kata. Everything was lovely.
My kids were holding back tears as to how great the food was 👌👌
Love the food. Love the service. Love using my zomato gold here 😍. Coming again tomorow :)
Ordered the peanut satay, my favourite dish. Was flavoursome and came out really quickly which was also good. Staff were friendly and approachable. Loved being able to use my gold membership here and will definitely be visiting again.
16 of us for a birthday dinner last night. It was reasonably busy for a Tuesday night, so I was a little worried they might not cope, since reading previous reviews. All fears were allayed when the entrees arrived in good time and within a few minutes the whole table had theirs. We went for a banquet meal. The entrees were excellent. The mains arrived with nice intervals , and were all cooked really well. Will definitely be back.
This branch is totally different to the Eastern Beach one. The food is absolutely fantastic especially the chicken pad Thai and the basil chicken. Definitely the better of the 2 outlets considering I have tried nearly everything on both menus.
We’ve had takeaways from here twice now and so far have found it amazing!! Definitely our new favourite local Thai! Everything we’ve tried has been delicious.
Ordered two chicken pad thais takeaway, took about 15mins and definitely worth the wait. It was super tasty and flavoursome! Quite an authentic pad Thai taste. The noodles were well cooked and moist. The chicken however was a wee bit over cooked, that’s my only critique.
Have tried once on my way to catch up the flight. The service is fast to meet our needs to hurry up, and friendly stuff around to make sure you can get the most suitable dishes. Must to say, this restaurant shares the same menu with the one in marina which is based on halftmoon bay. It is pleasure to see these find dining places nearby:)
We had luch here on Sunday, it wasn't busy at all. The staff was friendly. I had the tofu pad Thai, it was tasty, not oily at all and portions was value for money. My friend had the red curry duck, no duck fat and skin could be found, which is nice and healthy.
Came in on a Friday night as a group of two families. The restaurant was surprisingly packed and seemed understaffed as the staff appeared a bit under stress but still polite and working promptly.
The meals took a reasonable amount of time given the busy night and were served with a genuine smile. The food had very good flavour across the soup, entrees, stir fries and curries.
We had not been here for a couple of years and by the end of the night we were left pondering why we don't visit here more often.
Fantastic Ginger Beef, Tom Yum chicken and Garlic and Pepper beef. Always fresh and great flavours. Desserts delicious and a very reasonable drink menu.
One of our favourite places to go for dinner with the family. Always delicious food and friendly service. Very reasonably priced as well. Haven't had take out yet but seems popular for that as well.
Only been for takeaways but the food is always on point and when they say pickup in 15 its usually always ready before. Will be going back..
Ordered the following tonight:
- chicken satay for entree
- beef ka ta
- seafood tom yum
- stir fried tofu and vegies
Price - reasonable
Taste - authentic Thai. Flavourful dishes! Special mention goes to chicken satay's peanut sauce.
Cleanliness - 4.5
Ambience - typical Thai restaurant
Staff - 5.0 (three waitresses took turns in looking after my naughty 13 month old while my wife, mum-in-law and I were eating).
I came here for lunch a couple of Saturdays ago and tried the chicken pad thai. I used to come here years and years ago so was happy to see that the restaurant is still around. The service is really good and the decor is of a high standard and very clean. The lunch menu is typical Thai, very affordable and tasty.
I usually come here for Thai food, mostly for takeaway. The staff is really friendly and does try to help you out if you are stuck for choices. However the food is really good so you are generally safe in what ever you decide to pick. I find the pad thai here is nicer than other places I've tried. This also goes with the curries.
My favourite Thai place in Auckland! I've been here more times than I can count and never once been left disappointed. Food is always flavorsome and never cold. Best fried rice I've ever had and would also say best satay chicken as well. Highly recommend this place but definitely prefer to order takeaways than dining in.
Very good thai restaurant and probably the best one in Pakuranga. I would highly recommend this one to anyone who wants to eat a good Thai..
Best Thai outside of Thailand. Eat here regularly both eat in and take away. ALWAYS superb They have the best Phad Phed, I prefer beef. My girlfriend loves the Larb Gai and Phad Krakow Gai. In fact we have never had anything we didn't like. A must go. We take all our overseas visitors here and send them home raving.
Located at the side of Pakaranga plaza, parking is easy right outside. We visited here on Saturday night and they were reasonably busy. There was a mixture of couples and families filling their tables.
The restaurant is clean, tidy and the tables are spaced out well. The staff are well presented and polite.
We started with the tempera vegetables. The entre was well portioned but we would have loved more sauce. The batter was not what you'd usually expect. They were crispy with a fluffy centre. We ordered the tamarind prawns and panang tofu curry with a serving of rice each. The mains were slow to come out so we were pretty hungry when they arrived. I would've love if they told us the expected wait time while we were seated or during the delay. Both dishes were well portion and really tasty. The curry is a great vegetarian option.
The food was nice and refreshing. A little more than what we are use to paying ($57) but worth trying out and experiencing some good classic Thai food !
This is one of two local thai restaurants so we have been here a number of times over the last few years, it is always reliable. Recently we dined here with one person who does not like coriander and another person who doesn't like thai food in general because it is too sweet.
We shared two mixed entrees, the pung goong was my favourite as usual. For main we ordered a massaman lamb curry, green curry, a duck dish and a sizzling beef dish. My partner and I enjoyed our dishes as we always do and the two others we were with were very impressed, including the person who does not like thai food, that is an indorsement!
Went here for lunch and like most thai restaurants, the portions are massive. If you are feeling really hungry, you should definitely come try this place. I always get the pad thai gai or pad thai goong, which is the chicken or prawn pad thai. The pad thai is really well seasoned but not too oily as well. Overall, a nice place for lunch
Been here three times. Loved the food especially the Pad Thai. During lunch specials the food is pretty cheap and the portion sizes are good. It is worth the try, and I absolutely love Thai food so this is a place to experience.
Ambience 3.5/5
Service 3.5/5
Food 3.5/5
have been here twice in a week and i think i will go here again and again. all the dishes we ordered are very delicious. The environment and the service is quite good.

Went New Years day. Obligingly left out the cabbage used to bulk dishes. Thank goodness I discovered it before I ordered. Pleasant friendly service. We had fish steamed in lemon and lamb rack. with prawn starter to share. Will return.
Very very warm and cosy thai restaurant in auckland !!! Like the name says , you feel at home with your family . There was just one manager who worked as a waiter bartender and he was just so friendly and efficient
The starters especially chicken satay was my favorite
We had Panang chicken curry. Awesome pad Thai and some really good fried rice with crabmeat.
We will go back soon.... Worth the drive
Nice food, friendly staff, big portions, reasonable price. Need I say more?
I think this place gives you what you want. Flavoursome Thai food. I love the fact that they also take 15% off for take aways too. Had their beef pad Thai for take away last night and it was pretty good. Only downside was the slightly overcooked beef. Ah well. Curries here are nice too. A bit sweet though.
But if you're craving some Thai food, this place doesn't disappoint. Trying their lunch specials next :)
Been here a few times now and true to its name it's a nice place for families with kids. The staff are nice. Massaman curry was excellent. Nice relaxed vibe. Good value too. Will be back.
I absolutely love this place , best pad Thai and Curry puffs !! Good lunch time special and the service is very friendly and welcoming 😊 !!
This Thai restaurant is located very close to where I live, therefore convenient when I am in the mood for Thai food :) I like the decor of this restaurant- very humble and culturally rich. The service is okay and the food is pretty good! Writing this review has stimulated my appetite to dine there right now!
Nice little place with some really good food. Prices are really good and the service is always fast and friendly. Both dine - in and take away options.
This was my very first visit to Thai Family Restaurant Pakuranga and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a mixture of entrees (which I could probably eat all night) and Panang, Massaman and Pra Ram Rong Song for the mains. I'd have to say it was the tastiest Thai meal I have had, plenty of flavour which made me enjoy it that much more. If you haven't been here before give it a try...TRUST ME!
Great place to eat! Wonderful service, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful food! Great selection for vegetarians too! Corkage is only $3. Definitely coming back here!!
Beautiful fresh & tasty food & fast delivery. The restaurant is lovely too & good service. Very friendly staff, have been a few times & will go back
Be brave and ask for their chilli sauce.. its amazing with entrees.. my 2nd time here and my wife loves it. Its the only thai restaurant that reminds me of my trip to sukhumvit.
I'm happy there's an authentic thai restaurant close by for me to have on my lunch break. It's delicious and well priced. I seriously can't say more than that I highly recommend this place ☺️☺️
Loved this meal as a.l whole. Had delivered and it was piping hot and fresh. Also arrived half an.hour earlier then expected aswell. Top marks!!!
Have been getting our takeways from Thai Family for years and ate in a few times with family, so it's finally time for a review! The food is always amazing, so fresh, clean, and flavoursome, better than any other Thai we tried before. Talked to the chef a while ago to compliment him and found out that he orders his spices etc directly from Thailand and goes to the fish markets early every morning for fresh catch. No old pre-frozen fillets here. My favourites on the menu are Tom Kha Thalay (a flavour explosion), Pad Thai (huge and delicious), and green veggie curry.
One star taken off for the service when dining in, though. More than once we had the impression of the waitresses trying to hurry us up to rush us out the door. And it's not like we wanted to stay for long, just finish our wine in peace. The restaurant definitely doesn't invite guests to linger in any case, with too many tables crammed into the small space leading to a noisy atmosphere and some shuffling required when attempting to leave the table and there is someone behind you at the other table.
Food brilliant though, best takeaways on the peninsula.
I've been coming here with friends and family for many years and each time I've always had a wonderful experience. The place is always serene and makes a lovely place to eat. The staff are always friendly and I love the outfits they wear during shift. The tables are always very clean too, I've never had a problem with hygiene.
The food is always consistent. Not only that but it is consistently excellent! The portions are good, and I can always take my food away with me if I cannot finish it. Sometimes I only come in to get a takeaway, which is also good because there is a small discount on take out (bonus!!). I've tried a lot of their dishes but my favourite is the classic Pad Thai with chicken. I've had a lot of Thai food in my time but if I want something I know will always be good I go to Thai family. Well done guys, you are awesome!!
We love this Thai restaurant. Non assuming but good portions, always fresh and very tasty. Waitresses are excellent too. Lunch menu very reasonably priced but good value too.
I have been coming to this resturant for a few years now and my family and I absolutely love it! The staff are always friendly and the food is great! I have been to a resonable amount of thai resturants but not one has beaten this yet!
Food - AMAZING! Got pad Thai and I absolutely LOVED it. So sad that they’re in an empty Plaza, they deserve all the business. Much better than Thai places in the city where I live now, I really hope they don’t close down with Pakuranga Plaza becoming quieter and quieter. We started off with Thai Milk Tea which has an interesting creamy taste with a slight taste of orange but it wasn’t zesty, it had a smooth flavour. It was my first time drinking Thai Milk Tea ($12) before so I’m not sure how to compare it but I’d definitely get it again. The drink wasn’t small and they didn’t overflow it with ice either. I’ve never had pad Thai this yummy, there was a huge pile of nuts to the side but there were already little bits of nuts threaded throughout the food already and I’m glad because a lot of places skimp on the cashews. That was a definite plus! A lemon on the side topped it off, although I honestly preferred mine before the lemon as I felt the lemon overpowered the nutty aromatic flavour, my partner loved it with lemon even more though, he used the last bit of my lemon as well as his own so I guess it’s each to their own. Look how huge the servings were for only $22. I had so much leftovers at the end, they nearly filled the entire container. It was very filling, satisfying and I was genuinely upset I couldn’t eat any more 😂 My mouth is watering just typing this!
Service - Very good, brought some water and cups out to us and were very approachable and kind.
Atmosphere - The music was nice, it smelled good inside and it was very warm, nice to get out of the cold. We were originally going to get it as takeout until we realised it was quite cozy indoors, nothing fancy but the decor was cute and the vibes were good 😌
Overall - I loved it so much, thank you 🙏🏼
Been coming here for many years and the food is still just as good. The restaurant is spacious and well laid out. Lots of variety on the menu. From curries to stir fry, pad thai to delicious entrées. They also have a kids menu, just ask. Excellent service.
Lovely food and service, as usual. Usually get takeaway, but we ate there that day
Ended up here for lunch on a windy Saturday as the place my dad wanted to go to was booked out. Dad noticed this restaurant and I had no regrets whatsoever at the end of lunch. They weren't busy so our order of chicken satay (three skewers), beef fried rice with pineapple, stir fried fresh ginger pork and massaman chicken curry came out pretty quick once the order was placed. I didn't get to try the curry (because my brother finished it all) but really loved the pineapple fried rice and the ginger pork. I'd totally order it again and looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu. Good location too with free mall parking and you can get here on the 70.
Fantastic Thai restaurant we stumbled upon as we were early for an event. The servings were generous, with perhaps a little too much meat (or so my fiance thought, though I thought it was perfect). They actually listened to us when we asked for it to be hot, as too often I get served "European hot" which is mild at best. The prices were also very low. Despite being 20 minutes drive from home, this will likely now be our go to place for Thai.
This place is AMAZING!! We have tried a range of the dishes and they are all a 10/10, the only trouble is figuring out what to order when everything is amazing.
We often go here as a family of 8 and they are always accommodating and welcoming. Prices are also reasonable for the amount of food you get. 🙂
I usually come here for Thai food, mostly for takeaway. The staff is really friendly and does try to help you out if you are stuck for choices. However the food is really good so you are generally safe in what ever you decide to pick. I find the pad thai here is nicer than other places I've tried. This also goes with the curries.
Edit:
They have a new menu including a really well priced lunch menu. Some interesting items particularly the mixed platter, which contains almost all of the entrees. It is pricy but worth it to find the one you like. I quite like the goong hor, the stuffed prawns. The deep fried ice cream was covered in bread and deep fried.
The som tom platter was quite nice with a selection of different toppngs for the som tom, and the sticky rice that came with it had the right texture.
Waited nearly an hour and the waiter brought out our main dish when we were still waiting for entree. The meals were good . We ordered 2 rices but only got one. We were only charged for one rice. The food was great . They were very busy with a bus group
Wonderful family run restaurant. Food was fantastic, flavoursome and very fresh. Highly recommend.
They're not as consistent as they used to be. The service isn't always the best, sometimes you have to go find someone to take your order, the food is still pretty good though. Most of their lunch menu is $12.50 which is pretty good for the quality of food you get and their dessert menu is pretty impressive compared to most Thai restaurants which will have some ice cream dish and mango sticky rice only.
Food is consistently tasty and good quality. Great value for money. Lots of parking. Staff are always efficient and Ruby is amazing!
Awesome experience of food and hospitality... thanks to the team for the great service 👍
Pop in here for lunch. Had a fried rice with crab meat and pad thai wid chicken. All food was well prepared and super fast to be served. A bit salty but that is why l enjoy Thai.
The best Thai food in Auckland. Helpful, happy staff, always ready to suggest dishes if I can't decide. Been going here for 12 years& it just gets better and better. In fact, as I'm writing this I think I'm in the mood for Thai dinner, gonna order some for pick up now. 😁
Amazing food and amazing staff. The quality of the food is amazing and the price is very good for what you pay for. I highly recommend this restaurant. Also I cannot speak highly enough of the wait staff who are so friendly and welcoming.
Best food that we have had in NZ!
