Good service, and great menu. Would highly recommend the chicken lollipops (had to order a second lot!) and the naans were light and fluffy. Very cheap too!!
I've been in multiple times this year and every single time I have enjoyed the curry I have purchased. It always seems very fresh however the meat you are given seems to be really shit off cuts or something because a lot of the time the chicken seems to have uncooked fat on it. Food is still nice and the beef here is really good and is what I usually get. Regardless of this I would recommend this place. There are alternatives in the area but it's worth A try.
One thing to note is that you can get $8 lunch here which is half curry half rice and comes with naan bread. If you wanna try this place out take advantage of this lunch special.
Went here with a couple of friends for dinner, we've always had really good takeaways from this place but it was our first time dining in.
We were seated quickly and given a complimentary basket of poppadoms, once they were gone the basket was refilled! We were also given plenty of complimentary rice.
The meals were delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Definitely a hidden gem in highland park worth visiting :)
I had a dinner at dum mast with my wife on Monday night . Chicken tikka dum mast as an entree was just delicious . Very fast service by front staff and the guy in white shirt took my order for the mains he was very supportive and polite . Mains was really yummy with reasonable price. Looking forward to going back soon

A dinner with my wife at Dum Mast which is somewhat shielded from the Z station. We were quickly served a complimentary basket of poppadoms. We had the specials of the day - lemon & honey chicken & lamb masala, with butter naan. The lamb was tender & palatable, while the chicken was a wee too sweet (to me). Anyway, it was a good dinner. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

As regulars, this place never disappoints. The service is exceptional and the food is second to none. Lovely thick curries, as spicy as you want them, and not oily or stodgy at all. Highly recommend the lamb saagwala. Best local Indian Restaurant - try it if you haven't already!
Have been trying to find an Indian food place I like in Auckland and I think I have found here. Ordered a takeaway here - had the lentil veggie dish, chicken tikka massala, plain and peshwari naan and poppadoms. Perfect spice level, delicious, flavourful food, generous portions. The poppadoms are it into bite size and are incredible!! The chutney is great too. Really impressed with the service when I collected too - really warm and friendly, hope to dine in soon!

I love Indian food, it's like my guilty meal because I know how high in fat it is. BUT it's just soooo damn good.....That creamy goodness is delicious but definitely a dagger to any gym goals one might have.
Dum mast is good! Really creamy curry and decent amount of chicken. I must say tho, the taste was okay definitely had better butter chicken, however the fact that the curry was thick and not watery scores for me.

Good quality indian takeout at a reasonable price. Check their specials which can make eating out ridiculously cheap. Have not dined in so cannot comment on the service, but have observed it is generally always empty.
We love getting home delivery from this restaurant. Really friendly and prompt and the food is delicious. Ordering a main is a large portion but the price matches so you can easily save half for lunch the next day. Have eaten in the restaurant before as well and had great service (plus everything is immaculate in terms of cleanliness). Had my nephew with us who wanted a special order and they were really good at satisfying his requirements.
Friendly service and nice ambience once inside. I ordered a chicken tikka masala which was tasty amd creamy, but lacked the 'kick' I was after. Food was well priced.
The restaurant looks fairly unassuming from the outside but has been done up really well inside- I seem to remember it has only been open for about a year and a half. The staff are really really friendly, and the manager is often out playing his guitar at request of the other patrons. Food is delicious, the variety is surprisingly large compared to other local Indian restaurants and you can BYO drinks... Just don't buy from the liquor shop two shops down and leave your car there. They tied to have my towed after buying a bottle of wine before my meal!
I have been to Dum Mast a number of times now as I have invited different people to experience the great flavours on offer here.
As mentioned in other reviews that the flavours are crisp and clean, I totally agree and that would be a common feed back from the guests that I have taken along.
Chicken Biryani is a stand out of for me with a nice touch of saffron to complete the taste experience.
Very friendly and welcoming staff to compliment a positively different Indian food taste.
Just fed 6 - not quite enough rice for all that's why 4 - but otherwise love love love! Takeaways only - but that didn't matter - still delicious! mmmm I can still taste it ...

Awesome. I'm not big on Indian food, but the best Butter Chicken ever. Garlic Naan was a nicely made and generous proportions. Fast, friendly service which was very sensitive throughout the evening. This is how a local restaurant and cuisine that have not been on my regular list, will now become a regular visit.

The food was delicious, the service prompt and friendly, and the restaurant and toilets very clean.
We are delighted to find a restaurant where the fat content of the meals is minimal and artificial colours not used.

We visited Dum Mast last night for the first time and I was very impressed. We ordered Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala. Both were delicious. Taking two teens with me, the rice provided to the table wasn't enough to satisfy them however Dum Mast didn't think twice when I asked for more rice. They also provided extra poppadoms while waiting as they were very tasty and fresh. I love the idea that they use less cream and no artificial colours. The food was full of flavour and didn't leave us feeling bloated. I will definitely be back.
The service was excellent. Very attentive without being annoying. I used to drive to Howick for my Indian or Panmure, but now with a restaurant like this just around the corner I wont need to go far.
This was the perfect place to visit for a flavoursome "Aloo Gobhi Adraki" (which had fried cauliflower, potatoes cooked with ginger, garlic paste, Indian spices in dry gravy style). I needed something to sear the head-cold out of my system, while I was out East on an errand, and I think it's done the trick!
Beautiful flavours. Delicious soft garlic naan. Perfectly cooked rice.
The restaurant's actual interior is impeccably clean, and the staff member was friendly, attentive and efficient.
My only 2 pointers for improvement would be that the bathroom facilities are aging, so don't match the brand-new feel of the restaurant interior. But plenty of soap and hand-towels, so no problem really.
And secondly, just give me a little more time to finish chewing my final mouthful before coming towards me to clear my plates! ;) No big deal, but just a little hint.
All in all, a superb Indian restaurant.
We've just had dinner at Dum Mast and I feel compelled to sign up to Menu Mania to leave a review. What a wonderful place and what wonderful people! The food of course was outstanding. How good is it to have something like this on our doorstep. If you're looking for fantastic Indian food, you have to give this place a go. Got a feeling they'll be seeing a lot more of us
Probably the most authentic and most well prepared curries I have had the pleasure of eating in nearly 40 years of dining and being a huge curry eater.
Dishes are well spiced and clean tasting with a minimal use of cream or excessive ghee.
The rice has be the best in New Zealand.....light, fluffy and quite unlike the usual globulous mass that others serve. I took a friend who is also a huge curry fan and his praise was equal to mine. Great food, great service and great prices. I'll be back.....a lot.
PS The onion Bhaji is the most authentic I've had the pleasure of eating since leaving the UK 23 years ago......individual pieces of onion in batter and spiced just right....

We had the $10 dinner specials which were freshly made and excellent an absolute bargain! Our waiter was extremely helpful and polite. We also had a couple of different types of naan and a fabulous mango lassi. So for $34 for the two of us it was well worth it. Basic decor nothing flash but clean and tidy, just needed a few heaters on to make it feel a bit more welcoming and comfortable. We will go again with all the family next time so hope they keep this up!

Always excellent. They avoid adding any sugars and creams to "pad out" a meal. This means Indian food the way it should taste. Excellent staff. Very attentive and superb and caring service. Very highly recommended. I have informed friends and colleagues and they too have all enjoyed their dining experiences at Dum Mast.

We have been to Dum Mast over a dozen times I would say. We are local and it has become our favourite Indian restaurant in the area by far. Manjit the owner is a really friendly guy and makes you feel really welcome.
It's the quality of the food that really stands out though. The kids always have the butter chicken and I love the chicken jalfrezi. The key I think is that they tend to lay off the cream and sugar. You go to some Indian restaurants and the mains taste like they are just full of cream and sugar. Not at Dum Mast. A healthier option.
I am a kiwi and I have eaten Indian meals all around the world - Delhi, London, Dubai. These guys are right up there.
They have a great deal on Mondays to Wednesday at the moment. We are a ravenous family of 4 and we can have 4 mains and some naan bread for around the $50 mark.
This was the second time I have eaten at Dum Mast, and I have been very impressed both times. The four of us that dined here tonight are all very familiar with Indian food and this restaurant provides truly authentic and tasty food. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and the staff are all very polite and helpful, especially the owner who takes time to try and talk to the people in the restaurant. All four of us ordered different items,ranging from mild to Indian hot, and all were the right heat respectively!
We will definitely be returning, likely very soon, especially as Dum Mast far exceeds a lot of the competitors in the Pakuranga area.
We have been to this restaurant multiple times now and every time the food has been fantastic. We have tried most things on the menu and can honestly say this is the most authentic Indian we have had. The owner is lovely and very helpful in deciding which dishes to have. The waitstaff are attentive and very friendly. We have recommended this place to all our friends and as much as we would love to keep it on the down low so we can make sure to always get a seat food this good deserves all the attention it is getting. Highly recommend the Chicken Korma and you can't go past the gulab jamun for dessert, very rich so we round it out with the mango kulfi. Its so good we are hoping to have them cater our mehndi night! Go once and try it, you'll definitely be back.
Outstanding indian food at Dum Mast tonight. Our first visit and boy will we be making a meal of visiting this place again.
We ordered the banquet for two - two vegetable mains, with two non-vegetable mains, plus mixed plate entree and ice cream desset. Each dish was delicious and very distinct from each other. The subtle blend of spices were not drowned in basic sauces like so many other such establishments. The chicken was succulent, the lamb tender, the vegetables were hearty. Friendly service, excellent food, fantastic wine choice (that was me), finishing off with ice cream and simple fruit salad. I would highly recommend this place if you like good Indian food but I fear you'll all go there and I'll never be able to drop in without a reservation again.
One of the best curry places in town! Might look modest from the outside but definitely the best curry I have had. Doesn't leave you feeling bloated and sick after dinner like most Indian curry places do with their heavy creamed curries. Price is reasonable and the meat curries are not just filled with one or two small pieces of meat. Me and my friends eat out here quite regularly now, try it you won't be disappointed
Forget the rest - this is the best. Very local, very friendly, excellent service, fabulous food and very reasonable prices. And you can bring your own wine - what a treat. I will definitely be back - simply the best Indian food I have ever tasted and no nasty heartburn after!

Visited Dum Mast because we wanted to try our new local Indian restaurant. On this occasion we had takeaway food. The two curries, samosas and the nan bread were delicious although a little more chicken would have been good. The friendly man who served us took pride in telling us about the fresh ingredients and the lack of tomatoes and cream. This was the best Indian food we have tasted in a long time and we will be back.
We tried this restaurant on the recommendation of friends. We have tried many places in Auckland and this one will not disappoint. The food is, as others have mentioned, home style; the ingredients are less blended/pureed, and the owner confirmed that they don't add cream or sugar. The flavour of my chicken kadhai was fantastic and the chicken very tender. The samosas and lacha parantha were also excellent. Environment is pleasant and staff attentive. Go easy on the 'hotness scale'... we like hot food but our medium-hot was a little too hot. A 4.5 star, really, but system won't let me give that rating.
Really good food, and pretty healthy. It has a nice atmosphere for a simple suburban restaurant, and the food was richly flavoured. Service was good, though a little tentative, which is to be expected in such a new place.
I want them to succeed because while we have a number of Indian restaurants in the area, most of them are too heavily Kiwi-ised (read creamy sauces!). Dum Mast proves you can still have extraordinarily tasty Indian food without loads of cream.
Simply an awesome Indian restaurant. Nice atmosphere with good seating arrangements. I went with a group of 4 adults and 3 kids , youngest being 3 year old and all of us enjoyed our meals immensely. Keeping my 3 year old glued to his food is a mission but not here. The taste was so homely, our fingers had no colour residue stains, which meant all colours in the food came from natural sources and not added on top.
The biryaani was so yummy and the rice grains were so fluffy and big, a very rare site in restaurants which impressed all of us. Our mains which included lamb raara (i loved it), chicken tikka masala to name a few was just awesome. Keep up this unique taste and flavours of india and the humble service.

Great food. Really tasty with a crisp clean flavours. Much cleaner taste than manynother indian places near by. Service was ok but the food was beutiful. I had a dhuka chicken while my son had a buurer chicken and a freind next to me had beef vindaloo. All had a good portion of meat and a very flavoursome gravy. The vndaloo was hot but not overpowering. The butter chicken was smooth and slightly sweet and the dhuka chicken was tasty and warm. A perfect mild with wonderful tones of cinnamon, ginger and star anise. Yum!!
