I’ve been to Chow Foo three times since it opened and was always enjoyed their dim sum and have been surprised at the good quality of the food from ala carte dishes to the dim sum trolley offerings that come around on different push carts.
Like:
1. Dim sum trolley with lots of different favourites
2. Good alacarte menu suitable for big group dining
3. Reasonably priced if you order dim sum for lunch. Came up to about $50 for two.
4. Fairly new restaurant interior so it looks a little less tired the recent Chinese restaurants that I’ve visited in Auckland. It’s not by any means modern either.
5. All local crowd at lunch and almost all the tables were full so you know the place has a yum cha following.
6. They charge a $2 fee for a special cut chilli soy sauce which is unusual as this is usually served free but You have to try it / think it contains a dash of sweet Chinese wine and a light oil base that gives it an unusual and very pleasant flavour.
7. Roast duck was meaty and not too oily. Good ha gao and glad that we stopped here for yum cha today.
We recently tried the food here and were pleasantly surprised! The food was beautiful and we order from here quite frequently now. The only feedback I could say is it is quite expensive compared to other restaurants with similar portions.
Went to have Yum Char today at 12 noon. We were greeted at the entrance by a friendly staff member. We were seated very quickly by another friendly person. The food arrived on trolleys and well as the waiters carrying them. Jasmine tea arrived quickly and food was regularly served. We were seated close to the entrance of the restaurant which was close to the kitchen so that could have had something to do with it. The was pleasant yum char. Nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Not much variety. Pretty much a standard yum char. It was a clean, tidy restaurant. We felt well looked after.
We went there for yumcha around 2pm when the crowd is not too heavy, the food is good and the service is all good too, overall satisfying experience.
Have been here a few times for family events and are always happy with the service and food. The crayfish / fish tank is always popular with the kids too
Very big place! Modern, clean and spacious inside. One of High end Chinese restaurants. We were coming there for lunches multiple times. We didn't try Yum Cha but ordered from the main menu wich is quite extensive. Plenty of vegeterian options in the menu. Food tastes great and presentation is beautiful. I never had such a beautiful food presentation in Chinese restaurants! It is reasonably priced with generous portions. The got fish tanks with live fish, lobsters etc. They use good quality produce and food is non greasy with great flavours. Service is good and quick if you would find English speaking waiter. One of my favourite Chinese restaurants for sure. They are paked for lunches so come earlier. Parking outside is busy but I always was lucky finding one.
Went here for yum char during mothers day, managed to get a park and table before it got too cray. Food was decent and had a good variety, service was surprisingly good for a yum char place - one of the staff even helped me carry sauce back to the table!
They've been open for almost a year now and think they have both the lunch (yum cha) and dinner services hammered out.
Food is quite nice and there is quite a good selection particularly for the a la carte during dinner. I quite like their tofu since its egg tofu so much nicer flavour. There were also a few items on the menu which were interesting like the meat roll combination and sweet corn pancake. Definitely an improvement from when we went when they first opened.
Service was quite good. The waiters we interacted with knew English so it was easy to ask for things. They also gave recommendations. Parking is still a bit of an issue since the carpark isn't that big but you are able to park on Pakuranga Road outside the restaurant.
Ate here for Yum char with family one weekend. We arrived just before it started to get busy which was around lunch time. It didn't take long to be seated. Staff offered different dishes and we were happy with the variety of dishes they were serving. However, some dishes could have been more flavourful as some of them weren't as tasty as expected. Otherwise, it was a pleasant lunch in a bright and decorated environment and provided with good service!
The service is really good...maybe the restaurant was a bit empty but they waited nearby our table in case we needed anything. Good but felt slightly intrusive. The plates and spoons were very good quality and looked brand new. The only let down was the limited menu and it was printed on 2 pieces of tattered paper that were stapled together. Food was good but price slightly more expensive than comparable places.
After booking a table for 9, we were seated. Only 2 menus were on the table. After about 10 minutes we called the waitress and asked for more - and were given another 2! We also asked for wine glasses, which eventually arrived! At that time we also asked how much the corkage was, and were told $10 a bottle!!!!! We considered this completely unacceptable, as our usual Chinese Restaurant never charges anything! However, one of our party had a word with the manager and negotiated it down to $5 a bottle. We chose a dish each for sharing (which I forgot to photograph). All dishes were beautifully cooked and served, and were very tasty! The final bill averaged at $26 a head, which was fine by us.
Loved my experience at Chow Foo for my husband's birthday. I am vegetarian but staff suggested me amazing seafood looking vegetarian dishes tasted meat. Prawns made of tofu lifetime experience! Yummy food great service. Friends and my family loved their seafood dishes. Also, They let us play our favourite music on their big screen and made our day with our friends.
Came 3x for Yum Char already, all not disappointed, seating space are good, service is not bad, definitely will come back again. The restaurant do not take booking for small table (10 people less).
Really good! Like everything we ordered! Especially the shrimp dumpling and matigao!
We came on a Wednesday night for dinner, as this place is always busy in the weekends for Yum Cha and dinner. The food came out quickly and was really good value for money. The portions are big and the food tasty. Service was good. Parking can be challenging here if it's full.
Very spacious restaurant with a generous variety of dishes. The staff was very kind, but there were some language barrier issues. I think coming here with someone who can speak Chinese would definitely help enhance your overall dining experience. I had to pull out my broken Cantonese just to convey what I wanted at several moments.
I didn't give this place five stars only because for the number of tables and seats at this restaurant, their parking lot is clearly not big enough. I went during the weekday in the evening, but I can imagine a lot more cars during lunchtime on the weekends.
Nice place, better than i expected and was busy enough for mid week evening dinner. We enjoyed the Peking duck, nice crispy skin but the second course lettuce wraps was just ok. Overall I'd still come back to try more dishes.
Simply delicious great Chinese cuisine.
Went to Chow Foo Albany earlier for Yum Cha lunch. Everything was amazing! I have been there 3 times now, and it has been consistently good.
Highlights were the turnip cake, prawn and chive dumplings, and siu mai, definitely worth a visit!
Awesome food, great service, super yummy! Very satisfying dinner! Will definitely come again!
Enjoyed a nice yum cha lunch here today. All the food we had was very good. Nice flavour and texture. Service was also very good. Definitely going back for more.
Good selection of Dim Sum, you can find the most common dishes here, they were reasonably priced and service was decent.
The interior is a bit dated and the ambiance reminded me of going to Yumcha with my grandpa back in the days. (In a very positive way).
I don't normally dine here but it was really busy so assumed its a very popular restaurant among the locals.
Good dollar value. Authentic south China cuisine, seatings is a bit crowdy but this is what you expected from a Chinese restaurant. You will love their beef hotpot if you are a fan of oily dishes.
The best dim sum we have eaten in NZ. The price is reasonable and the dinning experience is good. Highly recommended.
Food was hot and fresh , came here for a work function. Great sweet n sour pork
Really good Chinese food! I have been here 5x and the food serving and quality never disappoints me. I'm concerned that their servers and FOH do not understand English well. I hope they consider getting English training, especially basics like cutleries, serviettes and their menu.
Definitely a must try if you're in the neighborhood. Best yamcha I've eaten so far. The place is clean and has a bright nice atmosphere. The staff are really friendly. They speak both Chinese and English. Good price for all the food we ate. Parking available at the back. Yamcha starts at 11 I think. I recommend the egg tart and durian dumplings for dessert.
Yumcha was quite good. Could be a little more flavourful. Service was good.
