Most amazing meal ever! Had the classic bruschetta, margherita pizza and gelato and I'm in love! Excellent food and excellent service
Excellent Italian food and very friendly staff. More than just traditional authentic pizza. Typical Italian starters, main courses and fantastic desserts. The Panna Cotta is extremely delicious.
I'm so excited to have a real Italian restaurant in Palmy, and turns out it's a good one! Portofino seems to be careful about their restaurants, only opening when they can do it well. We've tried Auckland Viaduct, Taupo, and Wellington as well.
The food here is good quality traditional food, with wide variety and reasonable prices. It's not 'fancy' dining but everything we've tried is tasty, well prepared and presented. Tortellini, veal, caprese salad, carbonara all good. Tiramisu was well made although for our taste could have more coffee liqueur... For
reference, I've eaten a fair amount of Italian food in Italy and Greece for holiday and work and have no complaints, though of course I'm not a native.
They also have a very impressive drinks list with wines and spirits from Italy and New Zealand... Haven't really tested the drinks list thoroughly yet, but the Sangiovese was nice :)
The decor and layout is very nice, it might be the nicest restaurant in Palmy as a space to be in, or at least up with the best. It's quite spacious having been opened up since the building was Melville House. Can be a bit noisy with a big group, but that's hard to avoid.
Service is pleasant and fun, if a little bit unpolished so far, but it's early days and anyway, they're not trying to be high end silver service dining.
Overall, this is a great addition to the Palmy dining scene and a nice place to be in general. Here's hoping for great success!
