Best wedges on earth! The vegetarian tortilla stack was superb also. Service and quality excellent. Worth the drive just for the wedges!!

My husband and I came across this place spontaneously as we were hungry after our long drive. We were very pleasantly surprised at the standard considering how far out it was. 5 stars!

We arrived in Pohara late and needed food.
Penguin Cafe was right next door so we wandered over expecting to get just a basic bar feed.

The hostess was very friendly.
There were several tables of families with noisy children eating when we arrived and she was quite happy for us to sit down the opposite end of the restaurant so we could enjoy a quieter evening.
We ordered our dinners.
When they arrived were very pleasantly surprised.
I had the vegetarian tortilla stack and my husband had the whitebait patties & salad.
The food was superb.
It was well presented, very tasty and they catered to our needs beautifully.
We finished the meal off with a delectable caramel brownie.

Definitely recommend it as a place to return to.

Great location & setting, food was good but felt wine was over priced. What you could get for $11.99 in the supermarket was $25+ on their wine list.
Would still go again tho!

Food was really nice. Service was rather average and I seemed to feel like I was bothering them when I asked for drinks. But loved the view and spacious both indoor and outdoor seating! Would come back but would love to see staff's attitude change.

Great service. The green lip mussels in the Thai green sauce were absolutely delicious!

Having read previous reviews (weighted at the extremes of either 1 or 5), I arrived wondering if our visit would luck into an "on" night, or be disappointed by an "off" night. Happily, it was the former: friendly service and delicious, generous food. It was, however, an obviously unexpectedly busy night. Several drinks and one favoured dish was already sold out at 7pm. Staff were helpful but obviously over-busy, so one of our drinks orders took disappointingly long. They coped fine with our large group. Overall, a pleasant evening.

Dropped in looking for food mid afternoon but the kitchen was closed. Snacks were still available, so we ordered nachos and out came a huge plate of nachos, on a super hot plate. Staff were super chatty, and fun to natter with but the place only had a few people. Nachos were very good value for the money.

Normaly won’t bother to leave a review, but since the others where not all to good. I felt need to tell you that I’ve had the best Fish and Chips so far in NZ. Service was kind of self service, but didn’t take long at all before they served out. Even when the place was quite full because of an All Blacks match. Would recommend!

Ordered their salmon pizza and it was delicious. The crust was crisp and the draft amber ale beer was the best we have had since arriving in NZ. Nice patio to sit in the sun and enjoy the views!
