Lovely little cottage, with friendly customer service and tasty food. We ordered beef pasty and gourmet butter chicken pie - both were tasty. Dog friendly and they even offer free dog biscuits. Recommended to try this place if you happen to be passing by or staying in Puhoi.
We had a steak and Guinness pie, it was outstanding, I want another one! The environment was perfect, loved the garden atmosphere, the chickens, the games. The scones were quite small and the jam was served in an adorable jar, but I really would have loved double the amount of jam. Very small complaints though, the place was really wonderful, would definitely recommend, and go back.
Very homely and nice staff good music
Hidden gem from Auckland
Excellent home made pies, try the bbq pork pie
Can tell there made with love
Delicious cakes! Haven't tasted cakes this good for a long time. Fresh and just the right balance of flavour. Tried before and lastest was a lovely sponge cake, white chocolate and raspberry.... really was fantastic!
Great sized tasty scones, with a generous portion of fresh cream and jam, which is what this quaint cottage is known for...great on a lovely sunny day under a tree in the cottage garden setting...i recommend the home made sausage rolls too-delish! Nice to see the resident cat sunbathing in the garden. :)
We dropped into the tea rooms on our way home and really enjoyed our visit. The scones, cornish pastry, tea, milkshakes and iced chocolate were all lovely and reasonably priced. The jam was beautiful and make from their own fruit. Plenty of space for the kids too.
I will definitely be returning here and recommend it to anyone passing by.
Bright sunny day, no place better than a country-cottage Cafe or tearoom to spend the most precious time. Puhoi Cottage Tea rooms is ranked in my to-do list.
Welcomed by the tui songs, beautiful garden color and smell, you feel completely relaxed once you step in. Wooden texture table&chairs calm you down, either you grab a sit by the window or you can walk directly outside to get bathing in the sun.
Devonshire tea set which includes a drink, a huge scone with cream, butter and raspberry jam, two slice of home made bread toasts is a must. Then highly recommended the Potato&Bacon soup for a savory balance. Nicely made with the right flavor! Or you can go further having the Jamaican pie with salad, a completely new thing for a cottage tea room.
Right latte with warmed up glass, crafty made ice coffee, food is all simple, rustic and country style. not too fancy, not too modernized, no special words on the menu that you need to Google, everything is right there, direct and delighted. What's more, all the food&drink come in together with a big set, making guests feel like back into those "Downton Abbey " Times.
Quaint cottage house with elegant attitude, sitting down, with boundless green flowing in your eyes, flowers coming into blossom. You can't ask more.
Nice quiet place, never even knew I was there, up for sale hopefully gets the same love and personal attention from new owner as current. Don't go if it is raining and you must have the Devonshire Tea beautiful afternoon tea. The scones are the biggest I have ever seen.
Went here this afternoon and had the devonshire tea and scones.
Had lunch before I went was too full to try the milkshake
but I will return to try it, it looked great. Staff member
seemed down to earth and approachable. Not as scenic
as I thought but the ducks where cute.
Beautiful quiet rural setting, surrounded by gardens and nature, we saw and heard several Tuis which was lovely. I had a walnut and date cake served with cream and caramel sauce. My sis n law had a mud cake with cream and chocolate sauce. Both cakes were very tasty and very fresh. My mother unfortunately ordered the Devonshire tea. The scone was really big and way too heavy which was a shame because everything else was just great
Great hospitality by owner and staff. Tea's were awesome and full of flavour. Really enjoyed the experience and will be back for sure.........
We ordered two tea and two cakes for only $18.00 Both rose black tea and lemon fruit tea was so great. And all cakes there were home made, so not included too much sugar, very tasty and fresh. Owner and staff were very friendly and talkative. What a peaceful and relax place!
First time I have been here as the sign caught my eye that the Puhoi Cotage Tearoom is one of the oldest tea rooms in New Zealand and the oldest serving traditional Devonshire teas. The tea they served were very good and the scone was pretty good too.

We have been visiting here for some years now. We generally always buy the Devonshire Cream Tea, and the scones on this visit, were the largest we've had so far! We enjoy the setting outside on a table under a tree, and visit the hens/birds in the cages at the bottom of the section. A great place for families. This place is also dog friendly, and we were given a bowl of water for our doggy.
We took a leisurely drive out here this morning. The setting is beautiful, calm, peaceful and pretty. Their scones are huge and delicious. My family also tasted their pies and carrot cake, both which were delicious. Lovely area for kids to play with a trampoline. Definitely worth a visit.
NZs OLDEST ORIGINAL TEAROOMS. Well my hubby took me here, and it brought me back to my childhood when I use to sit and enjoy Devonshire tea, scones and jam with my mother and granny, which overlooked a beautifully kept garden. This memory came alive when I visited this place for the first time - In fact I cried cause it was a touch of home. Made me miss my family. The scones were lovely - but make sure to ask for them slightly heated. There are GF scones available if needed and coffee for all you coffee goers. My hubby always enjoys the frankfurter bun with sauerkraut, mustard and ketchup. Make sure to take the kids as there is a tramp and chickens to feed if you care too. Also if you walk down the bank you'll come to a beautiful setting of a deep creek - care for a dip? Just beautifully kept. Must take for your daughters, mothers & grandmothers. A true little Gem
What a beautiful spot. What a great Devonshire Tea or Coffee. And the scones are the best I know.
The owner is friendly too.
Highly recommendable when you are about to visit the Puhoi area.

Along the Puhoi River, the Puhoi Cottage Tearoom has been part of the fabric of Puhoi for over a 100 years 😮 It is one of the oldest tea rooms in New Zealand, and also perhaps the oldest tea room in the country serving high tea in the Devonshire Tradition ❤️
With over 25 tea choices, I naturally had to try their Devonshire Cream Tea 😋 (tea with scones, handmade jam, and clotted cream). I chose a bold and flavourful Nepali masala chai 🫖
You can also gorge on delicious cakes, 🍰 treats and savouries like pies, rolls 🥪 quiche 🍲 and salads. You also have a choice of other beverages (apart from tea) like hot chocolate and a list of different coffees ☕️
It can be reached either by road 🚓 🚗 or by canoeing 🛶 down the Puhoi river. I reached just as they were opening up, so the scones had just come fresh out of the oven 😍
Although a lovely outing, with great food and service, in calm and relaxing 😌 surroundings, it does seem a bit dated and in need of some TLC 😊
Not far out of Puhoi village, only 25 minutes from North Shore outside of rush hour. Rural setting, can dine inside or outside, food was great with the Mince and Cheese pie being Angus beef, with lovely side salad ( see attached photo )
Will happily vist again .
It’s a shame when we arrived it was empty not much on offer. We had a chickpea pie which was ok - Followed by a cream tea. Scones were great. Not clotted cream but nice. Tables needed a wipe
Puhoi Cottage Tea Rooms is really one of a kind. Situated right alongside the Puhoi River, you get to enjoy nature and observe beautiful views while enjoying a delicious warm cup of tea with some light food.
They have a wonderful selection of high-quality flavoursome teas to accompany their scrumptious signature scones – presented in beautiful antique chinaware. Whilst they have other food as well such as sandwiches and soup, the Devonshire Cream Teas are a must have!
The tea house was built in the early 1900's and has a wonderful character and warmth to it. It is beautifully decorated and contains many hand-made ornaments and fixtures giving you a cosy homely feeling. The garden is very spacious, dog friendly, and kid-friendly with a 14ft trampoline and many chickens roaming about to keep the kids entertained. The service above all is first class. The owners take pride in what they do, and make you feel warm, welcome, and relaxed.
We had an amazing time visiting today and highly recommend the place. We'll be back for sure, thank you for having us!
Beautiful place and very kind owner. We had some delicious fresh scones straight from the oven with cream and jam. Yum! Thank you so much. Will be back. Highly recommend!
Best scones I ever had! The pies are excellent. This place is an undiscovered gem! Everything is home made!
This is an excellent spot for a quick Scone and a warm tea. The owner was very friendly and the scones were the best I have ever had. I had the berry tea and it had lots of flavour. The back garden was spacious and very welcoming. We didn't have to wait long for our food dispite it being quite busy. This place needs to be reconized because it is really worth going to if you're stopping in Puhoi for the day. I will definitely be going there again :)
We all loved the decorations here and the surrounding, very pleasant atmosphere.
The tea room is such a lovely place and definitely worth a visit! The owners really made us feel very welcome. Their hospitality is over the moon! Good and kind people who are running the cafe. You could clearly see they are doing it with a lot lof love :)
Thank you so much for this beautiful experience at your cafe :)
Stop for tea and scones. You won’t be disappointed!
Dog Friendly. Whoop!!
Such a lovely place with delicious scones! Definitely coming back soon ☺️ the garden is also very pretty! Great place to be 🥰
Such a wonderful and organic place. The scones are flaky, breaks apart easily into fluffy and tender pieces, most importantly it doesn't leave the baking soda after taste that I normally get in most scones. I am definitely coming back again.
Excellent little place for site seeing. They have meals and alot of different cheeses if that's your things. Great little cafe with amazing views, lovely and rural. Great service, clean, friendly staff, clean toilets. 5/5 for me. Kiddie friendly and also access for wheelchairs.
Best scones in the world can be found here!! Gorgeous location next to Puhoi river, excellent service and loved watching all the chickens enjoying the garden while we enjoyed our scones and tea. I want to move to Puhoi so I can have these everyday 😂
What a beautiful location! We had high tea - the food, all made in house, was divine. The hot scones, made freshly for us, were light and fluffy and served with delicious jam and fresh cream. The tea was lovely, with bottomless refills of the tea pot. And there is something peaceful about looking over the garden, watching ducks and chickens foraging whilst sparrows gather for crumbs. The service was also wonderful, friendly but professional. I would thoroughly recommend a visit! N.B. There is other food apart from a high tea, and it looked wonderful!
Stopped here with a friend and it was an awesome find, very relaxing atmosphere and beautiful gardens. Wonderful friendly service. Top notch scones and good coffee. Can recommend
Absolutely delicious and truly homemade pies. Plenty of filling and light pastry. I had steak and ale and recommend it. Husband had Moroccan pumpkin soup, again great. The setting is very peaceful, sitting outside in a rustic garden with umbrella shading us. You can sit inside too. The owner is very friendly and brought us a "tasting scone" free as they had just baked a batch. So light you almost had to hold it down. Very few places really do bake their own food but this is one.
It's well worth a trip to Puhoi to visit...about 300 metres from the pub.
.
Such a lovely spot. Quiet gardens, entertaining chickens. Great host
The scones were divine. Proper English scones with jam and cream serves beautifully with tea, tea pots unique spoons and serving dishes. It's not a fancy setting but a fancy service. Thank-you! We will be back. Also as it is a restaurant off someones home, make sure to let them know you are coming. I am sure that's helpful when you know what to expect for your day ahead.
What a discovery this place was today. Fantastic cup of tea, delicious scones and everything served on china plates. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!
