This is not a swanky restaurant but meals were tasy and LARGE and the bonus was that you could sit outside and watch the world go by.ย The Puhoi locals are the friendliest of people and you can find out so much about this Bohemian settlement from the people who just stop to chat. Nic and his staff couldn,t have been nicer.

The general store is well stocked, and the girl makes yummy fresh coffee. Even sells postcards, and there is a postbox outside.
There were tables and chairs outside to sit and drink your coffees, eat some snacks or just gather with friends. It's located across the road from the river wits seating, and also there is a cute little library.

Puhoi was originally established in 1868 by immigrants from Bohemia ๐จ๐ฟ whose names adorn many of the road signs ๐ชงin the area and whose descendants still call Puhoi home ๐ก
Since those early days Puhoi has developed into a bustling tourist ๐ฅ๐ฅ village, whose attractions also include the legendary Puhoi Pub ๐ป Puhoi River Kayak Tours ๐ถ The Puhoi Tea Room ๐ต ๐ซand the monthly farmers market.
Positioned right in the heart โค๏ธ of the historic Puhoi village, is the iconic Puhoi General Store ๐
The General Store has character bursting from its exposed wooden beams to its polished wooden floors ๐ The shop has everything a local or tourist is looking for. From everyday grocery necessities ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ beer and wine ๐ท souvenirs, hot pies, chips ๐and oysters or fish ๐ as well as good coffee, Danish pasties and slices ๐ฅฎ๐ฐ
Patrons can sit ๐ช out in front, or in the courtyard under the large raised verandah with views across to the Puhoi River ๐ Part of the store is also utilised as a real estate office for Mike Pero Limited.
Lovely store. They do a mean oyster and chips and scallops and chips. Very friendly service
An eclectic general store with everything including good coffee to plants and burgers. The chips and fresh oysters are only $10. Nice place to be on a sunny winters day
Itโs almost impossible to go to Puhoi and not pop in for a nice cup of coffee. Itโs a must do !
A good coffee management very helpful
Got some coffees here before and after a gravel ride. Friendly staff and good coffee, also had a choc brownie which was also pretty good. Didnt try myself but other people there were raving about the oysters and chips.
What a great place. Reasonably close to Auckland, and just of SH1 - but it feels like a step back to the good things of yesteryear (sadly, this includes being quite expensive). Nice coffee, nice people, and we even sampled their mussels and chips (much nicer than most places). It was a great detour on a trip.
If your ever calling into our lovely little village of Puhoi , make sure you stop into the General Store for Oysters & chips , they do lovely Takeaways.
Fish and chips was good but somewhat dear. Supplies are not cheap either but also good quality. Nice local produce.
Got the mussels and chips for $10 was quite a big feed and absolutely delicious I will definitely be back ๐, good range of good in shop too ๐๐
Great stop for refreshments, friendly staff, great local products, nice locals, great parking, amazing surroundings
Do not Puhoi. Or the store. Or the cat! The food was good. The ambience even better.
